El Tigrero I don’t know how much DNA factors into things like that, and I don’t care. Because even if DNA is a factor, there are lots of exceptions. There are certainly smart and stupid people of all races, and there are criminals and law abiding people of all races. Even if DNA is a factor, that’s no reason to penalize intelligent law abiding people or assume the best of stupid people with no respect for the law. People are individuals and shouldn’t be judged by their family or race. Besides, we know that culture is a big factor in things like crime rate versus living a successful life. The debate between “nature versus nurture” has largely been settled. We now know it’s both.

@@conraddevigne Not really, Nicomachean Ethics is a philosophy of morality achieved via the choice of happiness in virtue (extremely compressed and simplified definition). Not really about freedom as a concept. Mostly because freedom, if defined as the liberty of individuals to behave as they choose, is not at all about happiness or virtue. And true liberty is an extremely dangerous concept for people in large groups. We live and move among thousands of individuals who have the very same liberty as do we, and those individuals are "free" to behave as poorly as they desire at any given time within the society of the group. And the difficult part is we are incapable of preventing those individuals from behaving poorly. A free society can be a radically uncomfortable society for those without the sufficient capacity to tolerate the thought that the sweet young man in line with them at the movies is quite free to behave in the most abominable manner. So no, Nicomachean Ethics is not what the Right or Conservatives espouse. Liberty of the individual is the goal of conservatives, not happiness through the choice of virtue. That said, Mr. Klavan in this particular speech did indeed discuss "eudaimonia" a predecessor concept to Nicomachean Ethics, but not as a goal, but rather a product of virtual choices in a free society.
