Not sure I wanna compare the 2. Adam Sandler can be "decent" with some acting, but he's not a good director in any of the movies he stars in. Half the time he either plays a dumb character or a character that's an asshole whom we're meant to root for. Plus I'm not a fan of Adam Sandler

I'd argue that Adam Sandler has the opposite problem to Seth. While Adam doesn't really care much about most of the movies he's in, Seth can often care too much and screw things up by going too far. It's things like Hotel Transylvania, Uncut Gems, and The Orville that reminds us how good they can truly be.

I had this theory that the reason Brian is so crappy towards women and why he can't find the perfect woman for him, WAS because of this episode. He found the woman he wanted to be with and she died, and if you want to take the VR stuff that they both did together before her death, the two of them lived an entire life together.

Hey so, I’ve been getting a lot more comments about this than usual since this video’s come out for some reason and I thought it’d be best to do a pinned comment to clear up some confusion. At the end of this and my other past five or six videos, has been the hashtag “#LongLiveTrapSav” and people have been asking me what this means. Trap Sav, or Alex Williams, was my brother. He passed away in March. There’s a dedication to him at the very end of the Baby Blues video while the montage uses one of my favorite songs that he recorded during his short time on this Earth. Since then, I’ve made it an obligation of mine to dedicate every video to him, hence why the hashtag is always shown before the end screen. I hope this clears everything up for you guys. Thanks for watching. Love.

@Wiccanwolf08
@Wiccanwolf08 4 жыл бұрын
The characters being jerks to Meg is not what I have a problem with in modern episodes. If they kept it as short quips and running gags, I would be okay with it. But Peter and others aren't just jerks to Meg; they are outright malicious. Peter will shoot her and Lois will steal her boyfriend and emotionally manipulate her. In Seahorse Seashell Party, Meg finally stands up to her family and has them inwardly reflect on the bullshit that they have been slinging at her. But happens later? She decides that everyone abusing her is what is keeping the family together, which is asinine. Unsurprisingly, this episode comes immediately before Screams of Silence where Quagmire essentially blames his sister for the abuse that his sister is going through and devalues her for it.

Depression does weird things to you. While it makes you numb to the things you used to enjoy, it also makes you appreciate some of the things you took for granted. You might even cling to those things because they're keeping you going in ways you could never imagine. For me, that's Attack on Titan. I've clung to it so much, I've built a personal philosophy on its first season and theme song. It's crazy because the show probably doesn't have as much meaning as I'm seeing in it, but I hold onto it because it gives me the strength and guidance to continue. I'm so hooked to it that when my Discord friends told me the show's creator is a pro-imperialist and the show reflects his messed up beliefs, I had to cut myself off from them to keep from collapsing. That was weeks ago. I'm not mad at them. I'm mad at myself for not watching past that first season. Now it's too late because I'm too busy to watch the rest of the show to confirm this. I'm busy because the show gave me the motivation to _get_ busy. To make something of myself. To change my situation. Thankfully, I still have older DC Comics and Jhonen Vasquez stories to hold me up. Maybe soon I'll be strong enough to face my fears again.

Episodes like this were so full of heart and yet with all the comedy needed, I miss how good this show was instead of just being edgy, loud and disgusting later seasons.

13:28 oh boy ;-; first of all i’m glad i found this video and you, i agree with everything you said as well as took some time to think about some new perspectives you brought throughout the video. but i’m writing this because i noticed one thing in the episode i have never noticed before, and it’s made it so much sweeter. when pearl and brian’s life on the vr animation ends and pearl flatlines in real life, the music that was playing plays one note during the flatline sound, and when it cuts back to brian, the music slowly continues. i might be thinking too much into it, but it kind of makes sense due to the nature of the episode: the music slows down before flatline, and once the note and flatline sound play, it’s like time stops for a second because brian knows she’s gone. but the music slowly picks back up when it cuts back to him, showing that even though she’s gone, time is still going. just for a second it seems like everything is frozen, but your life keeps going, even when someone you had so much love for is no longer living it with you. it makes it so much more bittersweet thinking about it that way. i’m not sure if that was the intention, though regardless for me it’s like a really sweet final touch i had never noticed before :’)) i know this vid is 3 years old but great job on it, really enjoyed it :)

One of my favourite Family Guy episodes. I loved the music numbers in the early seasons and this has one of the best songs, along with a genuinely compelling narrative to boot. Family Guy is one of those shows that can sometimes be funny and works best as an vague experience to rest your eyes on as you de-stress which is something I can appreciate but I like that sometimes it goes out of it's way to try and captivate you, even if it does so less nowadays.

“This is a different era for Family Guy.” You mean when it was good and not just a contest to see which character could be the most horrible… usually to Meg?

As a music nerd, I am really glad that you brought up not just the song in this episode, but also the score used in the Brian/Pearl and Peter sequence at the end. I've always loved when the score alone can tell a story better than words can and they went all out in this episode. My favorite part is at the end of the sequence, the winds die down to a singular note that's held to coincide with Pearl flat-lining. It's such an emotional gut punch that, yeah, it kinda sucks that you can't enjoy it for 5 seconds before Dr. Hartman bursts in with a quip.

Your outro shows why that joke with the doctor works, I think. That look from Brian is such pure venom, and when you cut while that's showing it really lands. if you're just watching it and the show goes on to wrap up I think it fades too quickly from memory. But in that moment, you've been able to sympathize with Brian's loss through this, but in that shared moment it's absolute empathy.

Can I have your advice. Hearing that you cry to these animated shows or movies. I can't cry. I havnt cried since my dog died of 18 years over a year ago. Since then, going through big moments or so in my life I can't even cry not even for the sake of being emotional to anything like a movie. What can I do? My mentality is rough at the moment. Thanks, I enjoy watching your videos man

I've been emotionally repressed for as long as I can remember. Only recently am I starting to embrace those feelings again. The thing about emotions is that you can't choose which ones you want to feel. If you make a habit of repressing one emotion, you'll end up repressing them all. So my advice is to let yourself feel whatever emotion comes up, good or bad, and when you're used to feeling again, learn to control it. Vulnerability is scary, but it's better than numbness.

Great video on what is unquestionably the show’s best episode. I mean, picking up on story beats from act one? The opera conversation, the VR headset... Like you said: in that way, it isn’t really an episode of Family Guy. Which is a shame, because for that 21 minutes, we got a glimpse of what the show COULD be. And it’s not like they had to sacrifice any jokes in order to accommodate the heart. Some of my all-time favorite bits are in this episode: Peter forgetting Meg and imaging one of the baby birds is Boba Fett, the huge bird hitting on Peter... I always get a little wistful when I rewatch it because it’s the peak of “old” Family Guy. I love Season 5, but it’s a far cry from what is was precancellation. Peter’s transformation from childlike buffoon to sociopath is disheartening. As an aside-what do you think of seasons 8-10? That’s when I stopped watching the episodes live. They were so mean-spirited and gross that I just felt disgusting watching them. Always like to hear what other superfans think of that era.

I can relate to the worst months / year of your life man . I have lost 3 family members this year * not a brother , I couldnt imagine the pain of losing my sister that youre feeling for him now . * And was diagnosed with a brain cyst , which took control of my life . It has been hard as fuck , and I have been struggling to find hope and reason as well . I agree with so much in this video , and I hope , right now in October , youre feeling some sort of peace or comfort . It never truly goes away I think , but thats okay . He will live forever on through you , and your videos , stories of him , all of that . Best wishes to the stranger I watch on YT . You are never alone , even if you feel more alone than you ever have in your life , because he will always be there for you .

I stumbled on your As Told By Ginger video last year and havent looked back since. Your structuring, point of view and emotion that you bring to each video is amazing. Whether its taking time to give a chance to a show I never watched (Mike, Lu & Og) or working through an emotion and loss (A Boy Named Charlie Brown). I love the content and the podcast.

I loved watching family guy as a little kid (think like 10-13) because I felt "grown up" watching it and found it's crass/shock humor funny. I fell into the same mindset as a teenager that family guy was cringe and bad as a teenager. But I've always still secretely liked it and would watch it whenever possible, almost like a comfort show. I recently rewatched the whole series at 25 years old and still found myself laughing out loud at some parts. I'm glad people are coming around to like family guy more now.

it's fascinating how much traction in terms of evolution the show had in the beginning, it sometimes still shows hints of that but something derailed the character development entirely. My humble theory is that it was Seth being indoctrinated somewhat into Hollywood culture, and seeing / knowing things he wished he didn't.
