Marco Antonio Barerra was a proud Mexican champion who let his hands do the talking. Prince Nassem Hamed was one of the most over the top and disrespecful competitiors in boxing. While Hamed’s outlandish ability and antics sold millions of fights. The Prince deeply believed he was better than anyone. He was wrong.

The fact that Hamed prided himself on being so strange, unorthodox, out of the box, and then he got annihilated by someone essentially just sticking to boxing basics, is the funniest thing in the world to me.
@felathar1985

Hamed never fough anyone of significance before Barreda. He fought good boxers but no one exceptional. Barredad was exeptional. Some people even called him "boring" because he stick to the basics but the man was incredibly skilled at using the basics. Hamed was 99%show and 1% heart. As soon as he found someone that would not fall for his flashy style he stop believing in himself. I remember watching a documentary were he was more worried about his suit and what gloves to wear (and that's why he was 30min late to the fight) while Barrera was in the mountains training like it was the last fight of his life.

Hamed fought good competition, casuals are saying he didnt for no reason other than to JUST make a statement on fundamentals. If Hamed didnt fight anyone good, then Barrera's victory is barely worth anything if we use your faulty logic (derailing a hype train isnt an acheivement, because itf its just a hype train.... then its just hype.. not real talent)

Hamed's limitations were clearly exposed in his humiliating defeat against Barrera, who was very unlike Hamed's previous opponents. Hamed was young in his prime but some in the media were making pathetic excuses that he was off that night and was not in tip top shape. Barrera landed well timed body shots that helped to tire Hamed and which kept him from positioning himself to counter as he normally would. So it came down to better technical skills and smarter strategy. Hamed's response times were not less than their best, it's that Barrera's timing and placement were better.
@Dirhe
@Dirhe Жыл бұрын
Totally agree, Barrera was criminally underrated in this fight, because of the idol status of Hamed. He gave the royal prince a boxing lesson, and exposed him, to the point that every fighter knew how to beat him afterwards. He ended his carreer right there, but, as Hamed was "HUGE" people tend to make a lot of excuses to play the victim card. Is often enough that big talkers have big excuses also, because all they have is that, their voice.

Naseem Hamed, one of most unorthodox boxers to ever step in the ring. Only Emmanuel Augustus comes to mind as a comparison. The difference, Emmanuel had the fundamentals, heart and grit underneath the showmanship. Barrera is a top 15 all time Mexican fighter in my view. Excellent upload.. I bet £100 on Barrera to beat Hamed & was laughed at by the bookie who took my bet. I can't remember exactly the odds but I picked up around £300 that's including my stake money. I don't bet usually but having been an avid boxing fan since I was a child. I couldn't resist because of the disrespect that was shown towards Barrera by the sports press & bookies, they REALLY underestimated him! I do remember though that the odds were alot better the day before but because of the hesitation on my part, by the time I placed the bet (the day before the night of the fight) the narrative had changed & the odds on Barrera had been reduced by ALOT! Thanks Marco Antonio Barrera.

@@starryian007 I completely understand where you’re coming from mate (I watched his fights from a historical perspective, not in real time like yourself). Sounds like we stand on different sides of history. It makes me wonder how I’ll feel about Jake Paul in 20 years (pretty sure I’ll still think he’s a t*sser when I’m on my death bed, haha) About 10 years ago a mate of mine gave me a dvd with almost all Naseem’s fights (including many AMs). I watched every fight in order and was blown away by his fluidity and movement (none more so than his fight with Barrera, when I saw the flaws, what a lesson in the fundamentals, and of course, pressure!). From there I went on to learn about Brendan Ingle and his training methods, then Herold Graham (wow) and Johnny Nelson (amazing) etc. I respect Naseem in the same way I do Emmanuel Augustus (floors and all…from a boxers perspective). The greatest freestyle boxer (from the classics), imo, is Pernell Whitaker!! (Sweet pea vs Chavez, mate, now that’s a display of styles and, despite the robbery, love that fight!). Hmmm… I just bloody love boxing, haha (hoping Tszyu Jr puts us back on the map). All the best from down unda!

I recently saw an interview with Marco Barrera. He divulged some BTS info about this fight. In the round he and Hamed fell to the ground, it wasn't an accident. Barrera said he did it intentionally because he knew Hamed was a dirty fighter so he wanted to let him know he wasn't afraid to fight dirty too. Also, the infamous double-nelson incident that cost him a point, as he bullied Hamed he kept yelling at him "who's your daddy" over and over. After the fight Marco wanted the rematch, at a later date he reached out to Ricky Hatton to setup a meeting between he and Hamed. He even flew out to London to meet him, but Hamed turned him down. He said he was done with boxing and didn't want a rematch. Marco was disappointed because he knew it would be a huge payday for both of them. He also said, whenever he goes to Britain people recognize him more than in Mexico which is mindblowing.

Mills was a rock solid ref and about as honest as they come in the wild world of boxing, it's something else how he found himself playing a part in so many memorable and often infamous moments in boxing history during his time as a referee. He has been a dearly missed character and presence in and around the sport ever since he suffered that awful stroke, and missed he will continue to be, but with the silver lining that him and his loved ones can rest and don't have to struggle with all that anymore. We just lost Steve Smoger this month too, that whole generation or two of referees I grew up accustomed to seeing as the third man in the ring are all getting to that age.😔

He bad mouthed Barrera before the fight, he didn't train and relied on his power punches. The only time I’ve heard anyone call this fight right when you said it was close thank you! It was close for the first half it people always say Barrera schooled Naz etc but it was actually a pretty close fight Barrera just pulled away in the second half of the fight
@chonzen1764
@chonzen1764 Жыл бұрын
It was not a close fight. The judges gave Nas every round they could and it was still a 8-4 on 2 of the 3 cards. Most observers scored it 9-3.

@@chonzen1764 It wasn’t a close fight per say but the way people remember it you’d think it was 120-108 like Hamed didn’t land a shot even if it was even after 6 and like you said 8-4 x2 that’s only hamed winning 2 more rounds and it’s a majority draw don’t get me wrong Barrera rightfully deserves the win but people make out like it was a mismatch it wasn’t
@chonzen1764
@chonzen1764 Жыл бұрын
@@TheStonerosesHQ It was a mismatch. Steward had hoped the MAB that fought Morales would show up. Instead MAB fought more like JMM with aggressive counter punching. Steward knew that Nas was a one trick pony wand would struggle against counter punchers. After the Kelly fight it was obvious the counter punching was Nas kryptonite. Thats why his camp kept avoiding JMM.

@@chonzen1764 for sure Naz would struggle more with a counter puncher than someone who gonna stand and go toe to toe with him not many featherweights ever have hit like Naz did and as I said MAB fully deserved the win and fought a great fight and executed his game plan but it just wasn’t as one sided as people always say that’s all I’m saying and MAB did surprise Naz that might be was expecting a fight and got a boxing lesson

After watching this the man is one of the greats the fact his only lost is a decision after such a long dominating career plus he entertained at the same time gotta give him his due. This style and energy is why boxing is dead now . We dont appreciate greatness while it is here Mayweather is another example . Many people commenting cat actual fight dont wanna take a punch or understand this sport is survival doesnt matter who you fight the objective is to do harm and not receive it.

Junior Jones was a terrific fighter. Highly underrated. As far as the Prince is concerned, all good things must eventually come to an end.

Hamed was huge for me. One of the guys that got me into boxing. Wanted to be just as athletic and just as entertaining as him. Sparred so many rounds hands down just trying to emulate his style. Only 1 Naz though.

For life of me, cant understand why refs never take points off for rabbit punches. They're the easiest to spot, and especially when it's blatant and thrown hard. Here the ref should have penalized BOTH fighters!

Yeah u wouldn’t want to do what the prince would do, he would escape the shot to the head but would leave his body behind, u can’t do that with a fundamental boxer especially a mexican one.
