My gym grade in high school legit improved because of Haikyuu. I suddenly felt like I understood volleyball, I found it fun and improved rapidly in class. I also picked up basketball again in college because of Kurokos Basketball, and found the motivation to keep running by watching Run With The Wind. The motivational power of sports animes is no joke lol

The reason I love haikyu is that it really captures how it feels to actually play volleyball. The balls that land inside your court before you even get the time to try to get them. How good it feels when you get a good set. (And the feeling when you give a good set). It portrays the emotions of the game in a way that a real game can't. A real game follows real time. Haikyu follows emotion time. Making some of the Haikyu games feel more real than watching the real deal on TV. (Live is another story though. Indoor volleyball is too quick and complex for TV)

Haikyuu and Hanebado have been my favourites of the genre. Hanebado also turned into a surprising chance to let me have more time with my father. He turned 65 this month and I thought I'd watch it for the first time with him on a whim since he played badminton till he stopped only a few years ago. During and after, he'd tell me that the show is relatable and he gets what the show was doing like a player's positioning and mentality. He's closer to a traditonal Chinese man, so it's always a surprise for me to be able to watch an anime with him. Makes me wish that in younger years I had gone way more ham into soccer (Sorry Gigguk, I'm Canadian,) so I'd have my own little sports anime world with him beside. Idk why I felt commenting this, just seemed nice to think about.

In defense of the homework episodes, those are actually some of the most relatable. In high school you aren't just an athlete, you are a student-athlete. Part of competing is making sure you are eligible to play, which leads to grades being one of the most stressful things about a sport. That state championship you wanna work towards, it doesn't exist if you're failing math. Wanna keep playing with your friends, then you better be ready for that final. Anime doesn't really represent the stress that comes with class work and school, but I would rather have it than not at all.

Love sports anime. I also like it cause they dont make the climax of the show so over the top like saving the world and shit. the climax of sports being simple like winning a tournament is great and we can relate and symphatize with the characters if they lose or win. Its truly art
@muhmonsta4 жыл бұрын
Nah. Because its an anime u always know who´s gonna to win.
@AWanderingSwordsman4 жыл бұрын
I agree. I think one of the most powerful thing about sports anime is that the stakes are low enough that the main team can always lose. Like, the stakes matter, we know how much they want to win, but the show can still continue just fine either way. You can't get away with something like that when the entire universe is at stake. While not quite sports anime, I think bakuman utilized this the best. Was always on the edge of my seat waiting to see the rankings.

I used to play volleyball casually a lot but stopped after awhile. I gotta say after watching Haikyu it really brought back that nostalgia and started picking it up again

i mean haikyuu's still pretty realistic in every aspect... besides the fact that Hinata has a 55 inch vert LUL

Arcturus Chung Lee Yes, the same as Hajime no Ippo. As exaggerated and hyped as the moves can be, nothing is actually unreal (well, except for the way they portraied the Dempsey Roll and a move called "shotgun" from a minor character early on in the series)

yeah, the animation is exaggerated to show the emotion and sensation of the moment, but the action itself is realistic for both

The heart shot that stops your movements is also unrealistic but besides that there's not much that isn't physically possible.

but isn't the world record like a 63 inch vert? but then a gain, 55 is still a bit stupid
@arcturuschunglee84816 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure its 63 inches on a box jump/ the tag pole isn't necessarily the most accurate. + kzbin.info/www/bejne/qp-TnaSDqqyaq9k so idk LOL

11:42 That's a lot how real life feels when you play sport especially in high school or collage, you finish an amazing training session or match and then... Boom reality kicks in
