I first saw Steve’s work in Rock Springs Wyoming. A mutual friend MB put in a car show. It was 1978. I paid Steve to do 2 shirts in his great style. I never got the shirts after providing him the shirts. Steve’s style inspired artists like Dave Kindig and others. ❤

This mans work hasn't come in front of my eyeballs in years! I see foose renderings come up, a few others. Steve's really good! Creative, & does one slick rendering. Thing is, he knows all about what he's rendering. Not just the look, but the mechanics, can it be built. If i remember right, he was doing custom lettering like i was doing back in the day. Pinstripes, airbrush. My brains a bit fried from years of laquer thinner..but i think he was hands on doing what he rendered..at least the paint.

This guy is very talented. I wish more people would do custom paint today, like the 60s 70s style paint.

My favorite designs he did was in an April Fools article of Hot Rod about 20 years ago. It was about the return of AMC and the new car designs based on older AMC models. I’m a GM guy but I got excited about it until the end of the article when it was revealed it was all a spoof. Beautiful designs though.

There's a big difference between designing cars and making changes to original car designs. Concept cars are something altogether different.

I also like custom cars and hot rods from that era. I’m also a fan of retro futurism/ futurism. That’s how I design my cars. I originally wanted to go into the automotive design industry to make Hotwheels. But then after a year of designing Classic cars in year two I thought “cars on the road don’t look cool anymore” and I wanted to make cars that were futuristic but drew heavily from the 50s-60s. However I don’t know what I’m doing. I might think about ok what will this car be 3 or 4 wheels so on and so forth. But I generally think “ok you got this vision in your head see what It’ll look like and just do it.” If the product sucks I don’t touch the design again. I’d either like to design custom cars or design cars for either Chrysler or Chevy. As when I showed a common folk my design they said “Michael you ought to design cars for Chevy as they haven’t made a hot car in decades.” I’m currently looking into a few art schools to clean up my design langue and work on shading. But you might get a new legendary car designer in a few years time.
