The Arun Shourie offensive

Is India's economy finally turning around? That was the focus of a discussion that followed the launch of a book by TN Ninan, Chairman of Business Standard. But in the discussion that followed, moderated by NDTV's Managing Editor Sreenivasan Jain, Arun Shourie, one of the panelists launched a blistering attack on the Narendra Modi government. All the more surprising since he was seen at least until very recently as a very strong advocate of Mr Modi and his policies. But Mr Shourie said there has been no improvement since the NDA came to power, in fact he said NDA is simply the 'Congress plus a cow'. Arvind Subramanian, Chief Economic Adviser, also present, said the measure of how much a country has grown is a matter of debate. But Mr Shourie was unstoppable, systematically debunking many of the NDA's and Mr Modi's pet schemes, claiming they were simply built on hype.

Arun Shourie was an ardent supporter of this Govt though he was 'ignored' by the ruling party, despite his good record as a disinvestment minister in the Vajpayee govt because 'somebody' doesn't like him. Very honest opinions from him as usual. We look forward to more such debates. Thanks for uploading this debate in the KZbin.

Modi had a golden opportunity to excel like nobody else as prime minister. However much of his work lacked coherence and push. I voted Modi in 2014, and I again might in May but this this time it would be with a loads of reluctance because I still think he has the intent and the Vision but could not deliver due to ineptness and wrong priorities ( like the demonetization and GST). I could vote for Congress but Everytime I hear Rahul speak just can't digest his shallow intellect. Ideally it should be Congress because talent in that party is far better than the BJP but that would be dysfunctional for as long as Gandhis control that party. In conclusion, o agree that modi bungled on almost all fronts but my vote would be a still for him because the alternative is even worse.
