I first saw this mini series about the Atlanta Child Murders in the 80s when I was a teenager and it scared the hell out of me as well as making me fascinated with the case. I've been trying to find a copy the watch it again for years but no DVD seems to exist. I finally tracked down a copy and thought I'd share we everyone as I'm sure there are others who have been trying to find it. Worth watching for the great cast alone, including Morgan Freeman, Martin Sheen, James Earl Jones, Jason Robards, Rip Torn, Bill Paxton.

I lived in Atlanta during this time. In 1979 I was attending high school at Turner High School. This school was maybe 3 blocks over from Wayne Williams home. One day I was late for school and I cut through the wooded path behind the school. As I was walking a man shouted to me, hey girl come here. When I first heard his voice I took off running. As I was running a dog was barking. I was being chased through the woods. I made it out and as I got to the front door of the school, I looked back. There was a dog that looked like a German shepherd and a black man with something in his hands like a belt or maybe a rope. This was mid February or early March of that year.

When i was 11 i watched my dad kill my mother and then himself on my gmas yard which was his mom. I remember the news and cameras with reporters yelling questions at us kids. There were 8 of us all together. I was the oldest. I will never forget her yelling at the telling them to get the hell out of here and leave these kids alone. She is gone now but may God bless her as our Angel.

I was in my early 20s when all of this was happening....living in a state far away, and a new mother with my first baby son. The news on the TV was sickening....and left us horrified and dismayed that sooooo many children had been killed. I missed the programs on TV that were produced after the case went to trial....and I'm catching up to all of them that I can find now: thanks to the gift of KZbin. I feel so sorry for all of the families and loved ones who experienced the murder of their children. For many of them: there will never be closure....never be relief...and the grieving will be forever. I'm wishing all of them continued strength, resiliency, and comfort apart from their troubles.

I remember when these children were going missing. I felt then the children knew the murderer, and that he was someone the adults knew him as well. A white man couldn't scout the neighborhoods that long without being seen. And if so he too was commonly known. However, the person guilty had to have been able to blend in, drop a body in the city limits and walk or drive away without setting off an alarm. Williams was known and trusted. He built up the dead children knowing this. Thats why so many died. He was known and trusted joining the searchs at times and talked even to some of the family members of missing children. GOD BLESS the CHILDREN and FAMILIES, ALONG with the CITIZENS who LIVED through such HORRIFIC MENTAL anquish. FAMILIES never get over a murdered members, but a chilld murdered?????? It never goes away

Wayne even admitted in later interviews that he was very good at giving choke holds to the point someone passed out. A receptionist at the studio he sometimes went to sad she saw`Wayne with very nasty deep scratches on both of his arms. His reason was he fell into a thorn bush. She didn't believe him because the scratches were very deep and ran parallel to each other like finger nails.

I realize your comment is now 5 years old, so not even sure you can read my reply. After watching this movie, here's a couple of details I wish this movie had included. #1 Roy Hazelwood. It was while the local police was driving him thru Atlanta that he noticed how everyone in the places he was taken to, immediately noticed him. when he asked the police about it, they said they were looking because they had a white man in the car with them. That was when they began looking at black men as suspects. a white man would have attracted too much attention in that area, so it had to be someone who could mingle and not be noticed by others #2 the movie made no mention of John Douglas, who was basically the FBI profiler who told the prosecution how to interrogate Wayne williams. I'm leaving a link to a documentary about this case that you, and others, may find more informative and accurate than this movie kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5qsZauXirmWhZI

There's a difference between the purpose of a documentary and a feature film, the latter is about the colour of justice in America, it's a morality tale, a story that tells us about conviction and the accused and presupposed guilt, it's not about the children who were murdered or even who killed them. Art is for moving people. This is not rocket science. Why rely on art forms for facts? It makes no sense. That's like using Picasso to study anatomy to become a doctor. Why mix two totally different genres and assess one using the standards of the other? You're not alone -- many commentators in KZbin trails complain that movies are not factual. RIGHT. Duh! Just explain that to me, I'm mystified.

I think Wayne might've killed at least one person. The other victims were probably killed by others in the area. If Wayne did kill somebody, maybe he thought he would've gotten away with it. Maybe he thought somebody else would be blamed. I do believe Wayne had homosexual feelings with which he couldn't come to terms.

It's always genuinely pathetic how parents protect their pride and know their kid is a low life killer. p.s. Too bad the mothers didn't protect their kids. Their kids were out in the middle of the night, they would leave them for days by themselves, no fathers, no schedules, so many of the kids didn't even go to school. It was eye-opening to the rest of America how these families lived.
@rucianapollard7098
@rucianapollard7098 Жыл бұрын
I think your "facts" are off regarding the Atlanta Murder victims. I think the mothers worked very hard to protect their children. Several of the mothers said they warned their children about "stranger danger" and told them to only travel in groups and be in the house before dark. It's true that some of the victims were out at night, but according to police records, the majority of the victims went missing during the daytime, not at night. In the 10 years I have researched and studied these murders, I have not read anything where the mothers left their children alone for days at a time! Also, it isn't true that there were no fathers in the home. The majority of the victims came from 2 parent homes. Many of the victims were from poor homes, but by no means does that say they weren't loved and dearly missed by their families and friends!

Just watching this and learning about this case in school, there was evidence to point to him, but I do believe he was working with a partner, at least one of the kids was in his house, the fibers prove that. Most of the victims went with him willing probably thinking he could make them famous, back in those days black kids would not likely get in the car with a white man, so I don't believe it was a white man or the KKK... It could have been a police officer but still black... If they reopened the case with the new technology they have today maybe DNA would give them the killer. The last body points to the only person on the bridge at that time there is no other way around that... If he didn't kill the kids I do believe he killed the last man... I believe the case should be reopened and investigated again... I wasn't there to know if he did it or not but some evidence do point toward him.

Wayne's parents were very protective of him. He was a baby they had late in life. He was spoiled and his parents gave him everything he wanted! They filed bankruptcy because they paid thousands of dollars for Wayne to have a radio station in their basement! Because they pandered to him, he made selfish demands on his parents! Witnesses said they had seen Wayne yelling at his father and even hitting him!! Whatever Wayne was involved in, I truly believe that his dad knew about it! If the murders stopped after he was arrested then it's safe to say he might have did it. The fact that they never produced a shred of evidence to "prove" he did it and he was found guilty is the justice system at it's best. The fact that he was black probably played a major role in his conviction and you can say what you want but a black man is already guilty before the facts are supplied to prove his innocence in the system.

*_On March 30, police added their first adult victim to the list of murdered children. He was Larry Rogers, 20, linked with younger victims by the fact that he had been asphyxiated. No cause of death was determined for a second adult victim, 21-year-old Eddie Duncan, when his body was found on March 31. On April 1, ex-convict Michael McIntosh, age 23, was added to the roster on the grounds that he had also been asphyxiated._* *_By April 1981, it seemed apparent that the "children's murder" case was getting out of hand. Community critics denounced the official victims list as incomplete and arbitrary, citing cases like the January 1981 murder of Faye Yearby to prove their point._* *_Like "official" victim Angel Lenair, Yearby was bound to a tree by her killer, hands tied behind her back; she had been stabbed to death, like four acknowledged victims on the list. Despite these similarities, police rejected Yearby's case on grounds that (a) she was a female -- as were Wilson and Lenair -- and (b) at 22, she was "too old" -- although the last acknowledged victim had been 23. (Dave Dettlinger, examining police malfeasance in The List, suggests that 63 "pattern" victims were capriciously omitted from the "official" roster, twenty-five of them after a suspect's arrest supposedly "ended" the murders.)_* murderpedia.org/male.W/w/williams-wayne.htm

@@Native5 There have always been cases of murdered children - and sadly there'll always be - but after Wayne Williams arrest, the cases of children kidnapped, then murdered in one location and their bodies disposed of somewhere else suddenly ended. Also, the fibers found in many victims matching his (very rare) green carpet, bedding, dog hair, car carpet etc is uncontestable scientific evidence too. This wasn't as emphasised in the trial as it would be today as they worried that the lesser educated members of the jury back tgen wouldn't be able to understand it, but if you care to research this it'll leave you no doubt about his guilt. It's very unfortunate for the victims' families that the DA didn't prosecute him for all the murders but - rightly or wrongly - they were looking for a watertight case and a certain guilty verdict to take this vile predator off the streets in order to save lives. Conspiracy theories or not, you can rest assured that the right person was jailed in any case.

I have to wonder regarding the bridge incident: They could not find any body until one washed up a couple of days later. My question is this ; Did the police ever leave that area during that time? I mean obviously they looked for a body on the night in question, and I imagine that they looked all night long and into the next day, but did they finally give up looking and then did they leave and then come back later on when a body was reported to be found a mile down stream two days later. In other words would it have been possible for someone to drop a body in the river the next night? Also did anyone measure the current in the river? Was the current fast enough to take a body that far?. That entire bridge thing seems really weak. I mean they had the bridge staked out, they hear a splash, but they cannot find any evidence of WW dropping a body into the river... they cannot even find a body but they are blaming Wayne for dropping a body in the river -- it's a little bit bizarre. One could look at this same set of facts and one could say that it proves that Wayne didn't drop a body in the water. Wayne says that he got a call from a woman that claimed she had to meet with him early in the morning before work. Wayne says he could not find the address and that he made a phone call at the gas station or liquor store.... was there any finger print evidence taken of the phone or phone booth to see if a call was attempted... How much was a call from a pay phone at that time? Was it 10 cents? Did Wayne ever speak to this woman - did he call her and speak to her prior to going out to see her? It seems like that would be a lot of information for the mother to take from the woman (Ms. Johnson) as a message that was written down and given to wayne. So my question is - does wayne claim to have actually spoken to Ms Johnson prior to driving out there to see her? Was there fingerprints taken of the phone and/or phone booth to see if in fact wayne attempted to make a call? Was the phone opened up to see what coins were in it? Did Wayne say he used a quarter to make the call, or was it a dime? So the police pull Wayne over after the bridge incident, and at some point they decided to let Wayne go - he was free to go. My question is this: Obviously the Police would have been looking for a body in the river during the time that Wayne was detained, and had they found a body they would not have let Wayne go.... so how long was it that Wayne was detained. In other words how long did they look for a body until they said 'oh well, I guess there is no body here... so ah.... I guess we better let Wayne go....? How long did that process take? And was it still dark out when they let Wayne go? It seems to me that there is a chain of custody problem here (with the body). In other words, if they could not find the body that Wayne through off the bridge, then this would mean that they didn't do a good enough job looking for the body. So just how long and how hard did they look for the body??? Here's what I am getting at: If they let Wayne leave while it was still dark out then that is not at all a responsible or even reliable search of the area. The only possible reason for that would be because they knew the body was not there yet. here is the problem i have: Lets say that Wayne was being set up, and lets suppose the phone call from the woman was a part of luring Wayne to drive across the bridge. So lets just say that the phony appointment was for just before sunrise so that a body could be put into the river to correspond with Wayne driving across the bridge to meet the woman who claimed to be in that area. So Wayne being the stay up all night type of person, well lets just say that Wayne decided to head over early to see this woman - perhaps he was going to find the address and then wait outside for the time of the appointment. Is it possible that Wayne showed up much to early and whomever was supposed to put the body in the river was not ready? Did Wayne have an address that he was looking for? Was it a real address? What caused Wayne to think the call was fake? If the address was real then wouldn't 3am be a little late for Wayne to be calling the woman? That whole bridge thing doesn't make much sense to me.

Kari TheMa9ician is that the way you really feel about the World? Do you really believe there is no justice in this World? That is kind of a scary way to view the World. Or maybe you are only saying that back at that time in Atlanta there was not a lot of Justice. Do you think in more recent years that Justice has been more accessible to everyone, or do you think it has gotten worse? I am a person who always believed that justice will prevail.... I always believed that somehow good will overcome evil at some point and that the right thing(s) would be done essentially for all -- but now I am starting to see, and I am starting to consider that there could be another reality all together. I grew up in the Suburbs of a medium sized city in the North East - we basically lived where the rich people lived and went to really good public schools and I guess that I kind of had it pretty good. Perhaps this is part of the reason that I believe in Justice... Justice was a neighbor of mine. ..... a judge lived just a dozen or so houses away... Some of the kids i went to school with had Dads that were Judges, so in that World I guess that one felt sort of safe or maybe protected... You went to school with their kids, you played youth soccer with them, and flag football - one would think that maybe some of them would recognize you if you ever got into a real jam where you were falsely accused of something. I'm not saying Wayne didn't do it, but lets just suppose a person finds them self in a jam where it is indeed a false accusation. That does happen to people. When you live out in the suburbs where many of the people who are high up in the management of and who run the local justice system... Well, I guess you just have this feeling that there would be people around that would basically vouch for you because they would know you - if that makes sense. In the public schools you received a thorough education re:the way that government is supposed to run, etc... the way appeals are a huge part of how the government is shaped. I guess for some reason I always just believed that justice will prevail -- its supposed to. But I now have to ask am I wrong to think that. Now I am starting to think maybe there could be parts of this country where there isn't much justice or fairness or equal protections under the law. I can see that there are people with these pessimistic attitudes and that they could be right, and perhaps it is me who is wrong. At any rate, I actually wanted to consider another theory. What if it was Wayne's Dad that was involved in these crimes. There was a near victim that got away, and they were able to supply the investigators with a composite sketch of a man who pulled up in a station wagon and perhaps tried to lure some kids into the car. Well take a look at that sketch. I think it looks exactly like Wayne's dad -- it looks just like Wayne's dad as he stood there -- always in the background taking photos for (who was it again?). Who did Wayne's dad work for as he basically was present at every major crime scene. It is interesting that there is so much raw footage video of Wayne and the media circus. In many of the news videos you see Wayne's dad standing there with his camera wearing that same jacket. Well when i saw the sketch it jumped right out at me. It looked exactly like Wayne's Dad. I'm surprised that others haven't noticed this. By the way, if there should be truth to this theory this would clear Wayne on the fiber evidence... As I recall the only real evidence against Wayne was the fact that he was tied in with fiber evidence. If it was his dad that did the murders all that would be expected. I'm just wondering if any others have noticed the sketch looked just like Wayne's dad.

(Dave Dettlinger, examining police malfeasance in The List, suggests that 63 "pattern" victims were capriciously omitted from the "official" roster, twenty-five of them after a suspect's arrest supposedly "ended" the murders.)_* murderpedia.org/male.W/w/williams-wayne.htm

yeah, but out of all the murder victims, only one was assumed to have been sexually assaulted (the first female victim). All the others were apparently untouched before they were murdered. So, unless they had some kind of DNA evidence showing that these kids were forced to see to the killers sexual needs through other means (oral, masturbation, etc) I doubt these murders had anything to do with child molestation.
