Dog sledding, or mushing, originated among Canada's First Nations people thousands of years ago.
Today, it's a niche sport with a small but dedicated following, with clubs like Canberra's that hold yearly races where riders from across Australia gather to compete.
Sled dog riders often use kick scooters, equipped with mountain bike wheels and long cables attached to their dogs' harnesses. Subscribe: ab.co/3yqPOZ5 Read more here: www.abc.net.au...

Yeah it’s got a bit of a following in Australia. You can also do sled dog tours in the Victorian High Country.

Aren't these dogs naturally runs on "snow-ice" not "dirt-pebbles". Where snow-ice are soft mushy and dirt-pebbles are hard-corrosive.

They run on snow here in Australia also but the snow season is short. I used to take my Bernese Mountain Dogs and even Leonbergers to Dinner Plain in Victoria in winter for fun sledding.

It doesnt really matter that much. Running on snow is like running on sandpaper anyway. But in general half of dog sled racing is monitoring dogs feet. The booties they use in mushing are more like tires that are meant to be worn out instead of the dogs actual foot. I worked in dog sled racing and its cruel af.

They have a peculiar accent when they talk, hard to understand. The dogs are lovely though.

Short declarative no-nonsense sentences by men and women but the women also use an upward inflection at the end of a sentence. This is typically used more by people in the country or from a lower economic background. Many female politicians use this way of speaking as they feel it gives them the common touch.

The easiest way to learn to understand people’s accents is to train your ear by hearing it more often, you realise some people may think you have a peculiar accent. It’s sad that I can tell you’re from the US, because having been there over 20 times sometimes for 6 months and more that you’re the least knowledgeable country when it comes to understanding other people’s accent’s. turn on the subtitles it will help you to train your ear more easily and then close your eyes and listen a number of times, it actually doesn’t take long to broaden your ability to understand a broader range of people’s accent’s from around the world. It is also very common for Australians to have an upward inflection at the end of sentences that make it sound like a question.

Why use huskies? thats stupid. i worked in dog sled racing and its cruel af. I have less issues with mushing for recreation. I dont get why these people are using huskies other than to breed and sell dogs. There are loads of dogs that would be better suited for running in australia. this is really dumb.

@Robbie Tao. Slavery has existed from around the dawn of time. In the predominantly Anglo celtic dominated Southern United States slaves were shipped from West Africa Firstly by the English in the late 16 hundreds from their centre of operations on the Caribbean Island of Barbados. Not only from Africa though, Irish men and women too were captured also by the British and Muslim Arabs also were slave traders. Everyone was complicent in this wicked enterprise.

I had a similar, but much less extreme view until I owned a dog with this temperament. They LIVE for this, they NEED it. To run and work is their whole existence, nothing makes them happier. What's cruel is keeping a dog like this in suburbia.
