I collect model kits and i don't like it when some people (including friends and families) insult me with "you collect toys? That's childish, grow up", while the very same people who insulted me also collects things such as; purses, handbags, shoes, etc.

Seen that with some old-timers who collect too many shirts (and half of them end up riddled with mold because they've gone unused and unlaundered) and seek some fancy porcelain pottery (that I suspect is cheaply-made fakes being upsold to them in a way that makes it look "authentic", with the promise that they can be resold at higher prices someday). Said folks used to mock me about my LEGO and action figure collections, demanding I make money off them instead.

I used to get my kid, about a half dozen to a dozen Hot Wheels cars every year for his Christmas present. Because I was broke. I didn't have much money. But I could afford a couple dollars to see my son smile at Christmas. I always told him, hold on to those. Because someday they will be worth some money. And he did. He kept some cars in really good condition. All the way to when he got into college. Five cars turned into 40. And of all the things that, he got for Christmas and broke or, lost. Those Hot Wheels cars stayed with him. We didn't really know anything about treasure hunts. I just bought what, I thought he would like. So when I became an avid collector, in 2018. He sold all those Hot Wheels cars back to me for double what I paid for them... So I took them and hung them on my wall. As a reminder of all those times, I made my kids smile at christmas. And, that I was right... Those Hot Wheels cars did become worth something. To me. They are some of the best memories I have. And I told him, that if anything happens to me. He can save them, and give them to his son. As my gift, to my grandchild. Or, if the s*** hits the fan, he can melt them down and turn them into ammo. 🙂

Thank you for sharing that. It's a nice read. My dad was a car guy/Harley Davidson kind of guy. I'm not. But after his death i saved the first collector Harley diecast I bought him and an old hot wheel of mine he saved when I got rid of them as a kid. Idk why he saved it. But i found it with a small box of important memorabilia...I keep these and a a Mighty Mouse of his as tokens, totems as if he was still around; because he'll never be gone from a day from me for as long as I remember him; his interests and personality his dreams and hopes. Those of us lucky to of had a good dad; well always remember them!

A collection is an expression of the collector's soul. When the collector passes away, the collection also dies. Why? Because nobody will ever look at the collection with the same eyes and heart as the collector once did. Though the objects might remain intact, the spirit that gathered them is no longer around. A wealthy man bought some of the most expensive and desired classic cars to let them rot in a field. Many called him crazy, but he had a point. That will eventually be the fate of every collection in the world, even the best well-kept ones. I realized that when my mother wanted to junk my deceased father's vinyl collection. He had gathered hundreds of albums since the late 1970s and loved them all. But that was just trash in my mother's eyes. I'm single with no kids or siblings. One day, I'll be gone. Then, a stranger will enter my house and throw my belongings away, including my vast 1/64 die-cast collection. It'll probably go to the hands of some careless child who will destroy each piece, even the most precious ones. So, I enjoy my collection and do not give a f*** about what people say. I collected Hot Wheels for years because I thought premium toys were a waste of money. Everything changed when I bought my first premium 1/64 die-cast in July 2023. I couldn't stop looking at it and admiring the details and chromes. Hot Wheels are silly and painted with vibrant colors to attract children wandering in a supermarket aisle. Those premium cars, on the other hand, try to mimic a real-world vehicle. They elicit emotions and memories from another era, taking the collection experience to a new level. It's something designed for adults. Fifteen months and 600 purchases later, I know I could've spent all that money on a new roof or car, but I don't care. I'm happy and having the time of my life.

Unfortunately for you, this is not true, I know plenty of people, including myself who have bought or inherited other's collections and feel the same appreciation as those who owned them before. It is not always the dopamine hit we chase, it's also just the sheer pleasure of being a custodian and maintaining the items for others to also enjoy.

As a former hot wheel collector. I use to collect the Hot wheels Classic sets from the early 2000's as a kid with my stepfather. I had a few of them completed. Unfortunately, our hot wheel collection was stolen from the basement that was worth up to like 10,000. We never collected hot wheels after that. We reported it to the police on the teenagers who stole it, but the police didn't bother to do anything.

It’s not the actual item that’s the hobby. It’s the hunt, the chase, and the satisfaction of the transaction. Again, it’s really not the final item itself. Collecting really isn’t a hobby, the research and hunt is the hobby.

You hit the nail on the head but when I collect things …even as a kid…from baseball cards to comics…I would do tons of research…check out books at Library and buy magazines with my allowance…my Dad actually had me working on cars with him when he had actual muscle cars …Chevy Impalas, Plymouth Fury’s, Oldsmobile Cutlasses, and Buick Regals…he had relatives and friends who actually drag raced at actual tracks …me and my Dad watched everything from the old 60’s Batman series reruns to the Dukes of Hazzard, Knight Rider, and Miami Vice…together, talking about the cars that we saw in the background of scenes…I started to collect diecast without even actually knowing that it was a hobby for close to a decade before I discovered Diecast Collector Content channels on You Tube…and one of them encouraged me to start doing videos…over 400 videos and close to 500 subscribers..I still enjoy the hobby!

For me: the moment hunting for the item becomes more fun than having the item and enjoying it, our inner child dies and we give way to the need to have something we don't need and be completely consumerist. Of course we are adults, but we don't need to kill our inner child, I even think it is more important than our maturity. Another point: this is very reminiscent of accumulation - you feel pleasure in taking that thing for yourself, but once it's lying around your house taking up space, you don't even care anymore and continue acquiring more and more things. Once again in my opinion: the fun is in the item benefiting you and doing you good, not in hunting and buying, that could be a bonus, not the main thing. But remembering that this is just my opinion, my father always taught me that we don't take anything to the grave and that it doesn't make sense to spend on things that only take up space and nothing else.

@@polarboy5862 Pretty much. As a kid everytime a family member died. Someone would take the furniture, pictures, the knick knack collection, the plates with the designs.. etc. most of the time the belongings were split among family to those who wanted it. When my father died. He collected cigar boxes, art supplies, markers, & colored pencils. I saved his artwork, cds, & cigar boxes... and donated the art supplies to my cousin's wife because she's a teacher. My aunt took some of the heavy furniture... because she's into wood working... to give it new life, but the rest had to go to the dump. He also had a small trailer... that he bought, but I had no way of taking it... so I left it with it's previous owner.

Good video! The reality is that collecting is nothing more than a search for satisfaction based on remote memories that make us feel nostalgia and often having objects that activate them make us feel part of the emotions we felt at that time again. This is the basis of collecting, then on top of that a neurotic personality probably finds it easy to become obsessed with certain things that are important to each person. That is why people collect even the last object of a certain genre. The important thing is to know how to recognize which emotions and memories are important to us, and not have to accumulate things to be able to feel them. Just so you know, I am a psychologist and I also tend to collect some things. That does not mean that I do not know how to recognize that it is not the best answer to what we are looking for deep down.

For me, each car in my collection is like memory bank of moment when I got it. Some of these models are very special, because these are gifts from relatives or friends that are no longer anymore. Also, collecting things may save you from alcoholism or smoking, where you prefer to buy something that would stay with you as potential investment for future (that makes some sense). But there comes a moment, when collecting doesn’t bring you as much joy as previously, because you are doing it for yourself. But there you remember, how it all started, when being a kid, I saw car collection of parents friend. Then you understand that next step of getting joy from your collection, is to share it with others (opening exhibition or even museum). I have done that with my collection of vintage food packaging, and the result was amazing. Sharing your stories and joy gives a very positive feedback from visitors, that gives you sense why you have this collection. You are bringing back memories, lighting up enthusiasm in other people. Now am thinking about sharing my car collection, because despite a digital era, nothing compares with a real thing.

I think it's easy to lose sight of individual pieces when the collection gets too big/is updated too often. We went a bit overboard with buying toy cars for our son, because he enjoyed them, but we started noticing he only played with the new cars, and the rest of them were left forgotten - a steadily growing pile of unused toy cars. So we stopped buying new ones. And wouldn't you know it: almost a year later and I'm pretty sure he's played with every single one of them now, giving them names and personalities, sometimes switching which one is his favourite, but always introducing the new one to previous favourites like they're old friends of his. There's a lesson in that, that I believe holds true also for adults. Gotta take some time to actually look at the things we already have, so we don't forget to appreciate them.

I collect because I was very broke when I was a kid, that envy can only be resolved when I bought the toys that I can't afford back then now. But it is not all that bad, every time when I am very stressful, I just need to look at my collection for 10-20 min and play with it for a bit, the stress magically vanished. I know it is kinda weird coming from a middle age dude like me but, toys just gave me so much joy and happiness to the point that I even bought a property to house all of them, making it like my personal toy store / theme park so that I can admire them after the end of everyday for a bit before returning home, and toys do get bigger too, from collecting diecast Toyota 86 to RC Toyota 86 and even ended up getting an actual GT 86 for display too at my toy sanctuary. That's Life for me, I work hard not just only for my family, but for my hobby too. If I pass away, my kid will inherit it, he too love toys just like his old man due to early childhood fatherly toy brainwashing.

10 year strong collector of 1/18 scale model cars here. It's so much more rewarding to have 200 very detailed cars made by Minichamps, GT Spirit, Otto, CMC, Exoto, Looksmart, Autoart, Hot Wheels Elite than 1000's of Hot Wheels.

Genuinely a great video. ❤. I think it’s good to reflect on things that we want and have self control over them. Healthy boundaries in collecting and life. Love the part about expeditions. Getting out and seeing more than we can buy. I collect fantasy because I get inspired in my own work when I see a cool livery and think, “I wonder if I could do something like that” it’s kinda like owning an art book, just in a 3d format!

One thing you might try and do when you see the next lego set you want to buy is ask yourself a couple of questions: 1) What is the reason why I am wanting this set? 2) What will I do with it once I get it? 3) What will happen to it in the future (stored in a closet, put on display on a shelf, etc)? 4) How long will it make me happy?

When I was a kid my brother told me, anything toy buy for entertainment should amount to one dollar per hour, and then it's worth the purchase. So building a Lego set is something that will provide you with longer entertainment than opening up a Hot Wheels car set. Plus Lego sets do hold their value fairly well so if you sell it, you have the potential to get some or most of your money back in good condition with instructions and box of course. You could look at people who go to an amusement park for one day and could easily spend several hundred dollars with parking, food, etc. Only the memories of that excursion will remain. You will be fine building a $20 - $25 Lego set since this is your choice for enjoying spending your money.

I collect only what I truly want, especially toys, and if something is exclusive or hard to find, I usually pass on it. For me, collecting things like toys is about bringing happiness to my inner child - I collect anything from toys, fragrances, books, comics, watches, rifles and the list goes on. Growing up in a family where I couldn’t always have what I wanted, being able to buy these items with my own money now feels so rewarding. I never overspend or support resellers because it’s not about chasing value-it’s about the joy it brings. I love displaying my collection, even if it takes up huge space. I would just end up putting everything in my closet and never opening them, not even the Lego. I have been collecting air raid sirens for a number of years now (mostly small ones), and I'm up to 17 if my most recent count is correct. In the beginning, collecting them to put on a shelf for years was fun, especially when I had the rare chance to set one off. The prospect of getting more and more is becoming ever so prevalent, especially as I acquire duplicates. Thankfully the monotony has changed as I have the means to take them apart for a restoration, but once complete they just sit on the shelf like other toys or knick-knacks. Sadder still you can't really "play" with them too often unless you want the cops called. At the same time, part of my drive comes from seeing peers in our "country club" who have many more large sirens than I, and those even more uncommon. That just further drives my desire to get more and more, at the distress of my wallet!

Collections for personal reasons, which are kept manageable are where most hobbies should stay, especially with emphasis on proper storage (not like some people that "save" old vehicles outdoors uncovered, or other hobbies stored in cardboard boxes in hot & humid attics or damp basements & crawlspaces) After having several important people in my life pass away, then having to grapple with their lifetime accumulation of random stuff or collections of things, it really hit home that what we collect might not be valued at all by those we care about. It's good to purge any untouched piles in homes & especially paid storage facilities, it lightens our mental burdens now, and will greatly help those we leave behind when we pass on.

Most of my collection is bought to check off lists of missing cars and fulfil a need to be happy doing something that brings me satisfaction. All collectors want to add to their haul to build it into something of significance. It doesn't have to be the most elusive rare card to give me that joy, only a car that fills a gap. If a list has 5 cars and you are missing one, its a pleasure to finally find it. It's a dopamine rush when you see it after searching, it is psychological really. If you have friends who share the same interests, you have something to talk about and you enjoy looking at what they have and enjoy showing them what you have. Its just a fun way to spend time together and pretty harmless even if it is an addiction.

It is also becoming the custodian and historian to maintain and pass the legacy on to the next generation with some collections, for others it's the value it can accumulate. Every collector has a different reason. Yes, we all get the dopamine hit, but if you are doing it just for that then you are not in it for the right reason. That tells me you have an addiction issue. People like that need help. I know people who I first thought were collectors only to learn they had major addiction issues and it was a cover of their really mental health issues. I will never tire in my hobby, and I absolutely love the look on people's faces when they see my collections. They have such gleeful wonder and amazement, I let them play and look at the items I collect which are of nearly every topic of life and all they want to do is just look and talk about the collections. It is a real icebreaker from the mundane of life.

enjoyed the video, for me it comes down to ""how expensive you want your decorations to be?" aside from monetary limitations, This also helps putting a limit in themes and space utilized. if it's a decoration it needs to be well spaced and non obtrusive. I briefly felt the urge to "collect them all", but lucky I changed my mind as soon as I found out that old items are expensive, so i limited the collection to only my favorite items (and the ones that are both cool enough and cheap enough).

I questioned myself similarly some time ago, upon discovering a few figures I have from a specific line were getting sticky. Plastics are constantly decomposing, to a visually unnoticeable pace, but they are, and no amount of careful handling will change that. Soft/bendable plastics corrode first, so a lot of figures like Marvel Legends will be a sticky mess 70 years from now. That's why I no longer buy figures of that type. Hot Wheels will corrode too, but thankfully metals and hard plastics will take centuries to get damaged badly, so I keep collecting Hot Wheels and some Transformers

It's the same logic why when you play videogames, you tend to hoard all healing items and stat-booster stuff thinking they'd come in handy later down the line. Use them _now?_ But what if I need them _later?_ ...and then, you complete your file with about 35 unused revives, 75 max. heal potions, 50 stat-booster ampoules that could've probably boosted you when you were getting your cheeks handed to three times in that final battle, and that's not even getting into how you broke the item holding limits on the very basic beginner +5HP potions because you neglected to sell them.

Best to invest that time, money and energy into responsible things like oir physical health, mental health, saving money for the future etc. But it's nice to treat ourselves every once in a while. I don't think there's anything wrong in appreciating the craftsmanship of this little hobby. It's a matter of not getting too carried away and collect what you truly like vs what others tell you "what it is that you must like". I am new to the hobby, I personally like going to thrift stores and buy cheap models that have character and history. I'd buy a beat up vintage matchbox instead of any HW STH or TH anytime.

Growing up and having to spend YOUR money on unnecessary things like cars after the age of 10 without your parents getting them for you really teaches you how to responsibly have a hobby. When I was younger, I wanted every Thomas the tank engine diecast there ever was. But, they were expensive, rare, and highly sought after. After a while, I taught myself that “I don’t need X character or prototype car, it was never popular or functioned well in real life, or about that Thomas character I wanted- They weren’t that important to the show. I only need these few characters and cars I actually like. I don’t need every little one”. Having a hobby isn’t about completing the collection, it’s about knowing why you like it and what little things you specifically do it for. I was able to learn this lesson way faster than adults that do so when they’re in their mid 50’s and realize they’ve wasted their life by never being disciplined. Plus, when I did, I didn’t have a storage unit full of unused junk from years of impulse buying. A passion is fueled by wanting to know more about it and trying to uncover its mystery, which is destroyed both if you indulge into it too much and turn it into a daily lifestyle rather than an on-the-side thing. That’s why it’s important not to make hobbies blend into your main life.

Collecting die cast vehicles turns into an addiction and a blinding obsession. I finally broke mine... this year. I have my loose customs on display and a few packaged ones on the wall... very few. I sold 80 percent of my addiction for half of what I paid for it. That 80 percent took up almost a whole room in my home from floor to ceiling. I no longer go to the store with an obsessed mind hoping to get a die cast fix or beat the scalpers to the peg hooks. Those days are over. My new hobby, project die cast vehicles. No stress, no hype, no competition. I have more fun with it than just getting the latest model release. I still buy a car here and there, but not for their value... but rather to rip them apart and do a wheel swap or a detail or two. In part... scalpers ruined the hobby for me because *IF* I wanted to complete a set of anything... I had to get that one car from a reseller or else I couldn't complete it. This started in 1996 when I started collecting. It began with the VW Drag bus, the First Edition version. Long story short, after many years of saying I wouldn't, I finally did... and spent 25 bucks on one from a reseller. After that, I started losing interest in the hobby of collecting. So, I made changes to the way I approach the hobby. Once I got rid of a huge chunk of my collection, I felt a sense of relief, not to mention I had more room in my new home. As a child, having those cars would have been cool, but I would have actually played with them. As an adult in my mid 50s, all I can do is fulfil the dream from my childhood of taking a car and making it look cooler by paint or wheels ect ect ect... and it is satisfying when I finish a project. That for me is their real value.

I had a vast collection of Corgi, Matchbox and Dinky die cast as a child. I loved them, especially Corgi. Bit by bit they got damaged and disposed of. Later in life I started to collect Corgi toys again, and built up a collection of my childhood favourites. Then I realised that I’d just bought them for the sake of nostalgia, and they remained in a box under the bed. So, I sold them. Made a tidy profit too - no doubt out of 40-50 yr old grown ups chasing the same nostalgia kick I was chasing. Not a waste of time or money, but I just look at pictures of Corgi toys to scratch the nostalgia itch!

First off, if you're collecting toys and buying new ones, you are not a collector, you are a consumer. Vintage toys dont really offer you that sense of completion so you never get let down. The whole idea of collecting toys is to have all the ones you wanted as a kid but never got to have. There is also the learning curve of variants, years offered, company changes, quality changes etc. If you're collecting new stuff you're not really learning anything. My G1 Transformers collection will probably not ever be complete with all the impossible to find tie in merch there is out there., but I learn new things about a 40 yr old toy line all the time. 3:56 you're just caught up in consumerism.

From the Estoic point of view, certainly we could reach to the conclusion that collect anything is a waist of vital energy and money. However even stoicism recognize that we, humans, are fallible. We will make mistakesand we work in our selves constantly. The reasons to collect objects, are as particular as the people who collects them. Some collect looking for reasale value. Other collect objects that represent some meaning in their psique, some real relatable meaning or something private and abstract. In that process, many collectors will experience, obsession, despair, greed, frustration, enjoyment and not necessarily in that order. Something that is not mentioned in this video is the fact that in other regions of the world, there is not the market and culture that induce a necessity in the public or audience to make they buy the item the market produce. Collecting in the occidental region of this planet certainly has a relation will materialism and since the industrial revolution “things” has become more or less accessible to the main population. In the early 20th century, the aura of collecting was something related to the people who can afford it and mass production did not generate products that people could acquire fast and in large volumes. That phenomena is something that the north occidental part of the world has create and promote like no other place. To get a satisfactory equilibrium isn’t easy. To collect something could help to increase your knowledge about many subjects, even if your collections isn’t related to books, you will find written sources about that thing you collect, and then your criteria could evolve to collect into a less irrationally and more selective and disserning way. Young people dedicated to collect something are more focus in the hobby and eventually far away from drugs, and other activities. The detail reside in the fact that the motivation to collect does not induce you to do questionable and illegal things to feed your collection. Old people who collect something, find intellectual stimulation from the activity of search, catalogue and document properly their collections. Even with the possibility that no one else will see such documents and effort, many people in retire, without less monetary power, could find therapy in the activity of collecting, search and talk about a hobby keeps many people sharp. All of us will turn into dust, like the planet we live in. But in the meantime, I don’t see evil in provide some meaning to our time here. Certainly, keeping on mind that real meaning could come from non material stuff. That is the wonderful aspect of art. Read and learn about art, may be collect one or two objects of art, (meaningful art isn't necessarily expensive). Listen to music. Read poetry, memorize some one or two phrases. Watch a theatrical function. Visit a museum with historical objects… Search beauty beyond the tangible object. Activities that could help to collect abstract knowledge and thoughts. I personally see badly to the people who collect something just because that activity is “fancy” and decorate their personalities. The people who collect objects just because they can buy it and they don’t have any culture related to those objects… Ugh. I think that to collect toy cars, you must have a little bit of automotive culture, otherwise… You are just accumulating and are dancing to Macarena. Scalpers, speculators and such… Well, parasites are still there in nature too.

I personally don't feel like the toys I collect look boring after I get them and display in my shelf, but you should be careful for it to not become an addiction, and making you feel the need to get more, because the one you just got already look boring and you get do dopamine from it? I guess? Sometimes I caught myself just looking at them and being proud of my collection? I think that's one way to put it. If we try to look in a logical way to collecting, I feel like hobbies are something necessary for humans, so we don't go crazy with our tasks and needs. Each one has their own hobbies, and collecting is quite an expensive one to say the least, but still a hobby, just like drawing, painting, etc.

Honestly feeling this right now. Been collecting figures all my life. I recently turned 25 and I'm literally half way to 30 with minimal direction in life but a lot of figures that could be sold. I plan on reinventing myself next year and that starts with selling all of my figures. Yeah they look cool but its like you said, whats the point? A small sense of accomplishment? Yeah they look cool on the shelf but thats all it will ever be. To me, my collection unfortunately serves no useful purpose in the long run. Maybe someday when I'm rich and settle down in a permanent residence I'll restart my collection but until then, its gotta go.

Those are not just collectibles. Please keep that in mind, those who value by their price never truly collect, they give up collecting because they force themselves to collect cars because of their price. It's not true enthusiasm. Hot wheels are Souvenirs and Happy Mental therapists.

I tend to differentiate between model kits and simple collectible toys. There is a real element of satisfaction that comes with building and personalizing a kit, you put your own work into it and it becomes something a little more than mere consumerism. That said, a well curated collection of toys still takes some effort and personalization.

Dad is a collector too so I had to experience struggles with space management often, however, I believe it's helped me form better criteria for my own collection in that I try to only get figures that I absolutely know I will pick up off the shelf and actually play with again and again, I think that's why transformers is what stuck, being able to flip between forms and mess with a figure's poses if it has good articulation, as for the long term, I've thought about journaling how much I paid for what item, as a way to better show its value in the future when it comes my time to dissolve the collection, either from loss of interest or that I simply passed away. I get the point on being able to use that time invested in a hobby doing something more "productive", but I feel like there needs to be a balance between "the grind" and doing what you truly love. We're only on this earth for so long, so why not spend it enjoying what makes us happy?

Hello! I am also a collector, a lego collector (though at the young age of 15.) I usually don’t have a problem with lego, except for the fact that once you build a set… what’s to do with them. This is the main reason why I tear apart my builds and turn them into something more interesting; mechs. I am also a Power Rangers fan and, after watching lego Power Rangers videos, I decided to make my own Zords. (Also, I put all my legos in bins specifically for them in my small cubby.)

I was thinking, having only one hotwheels (your favorite model) and actually liking it, using it to decorate your desk, running it in every track around the world, bringing it with you in your pocket or purse, customizing it, is way more interesting than having a giant collection in their original boxes and feeling bad if you scratch the box...

Thank you for posting this video. I'll admit why I do it: I am compensating for psychological pain: lost relatives, work piling up, confusing and overwhelming politics, a desperate need to find simple joy. I know it's not the actual solution, if there's a solution. For me, it's Star Wars and GI Joe figures and vehicles. They are delightful to look at, though they can't help me. Here's what I do: I use alien/monster/Cobra figures to represent tasks I need to do, and then my troopers are time slots I schedule to deal with them. Complete a task, knock down the enemy figure. It helps me feel I'm progressing and "winning" as the enemies fall and my forces remain. Sometimes, it's the only thing that helps me calm my anxiety and really get things done.

As a Lego and scale model collector this is 100% true. There's no way I can keep all this stuff it's taking too much money and takes up way too much space in my house. Worst part is that I don't even look at my lego after making it or don't even look at my collection anyway

If your passionate about the hobby you never tire of it; either you may be in a bit of a slump in life right now or you were never really passionate about the hobby of collecting. Only time and other activities can give you your answer. I hope you do work it out, because if you don't it can become depressing in life. You need a passionate reason to live for. Seek some counselling if it helps or talk to someone you really trust. A small book I read helped me in life it s called 'Freedom from the Known' by Jiddu Krishnamurti. Read it, it may help you.

I’ve learned to trust my instincts more when it comes to “collecting.” Once you recognize the difference between what you actually want vs what you feel compelled to get it’s a lot easier to resist. I sold 90% of my comics and books and it felt great. I just get random stuff I like here and there.

I am a 24 year old Beyblade collector from India. Beyblade was a huge part of my childhood and I grew up watching the show and playing after school with my friends. Despite all the things I never got access to a Genuine Beyblade as a kid because those toys were expensive in 2014 My parents used to buy me knockoff ones which everyone else had as well. So the day I got access to adult money (I am an engineer in automotive firm now) I started looking out for genuine Beyblade’s only to realise that the production was stopped in 2016 and only way to get them now is by getting them from a collector or used toys selles in japan (mercari japan). Initially I got a few used ones and later I got addicted to collecting. I sold the used ones, started saving every single dime I used to spend elsewhere and started getting New in box ones. After spending almost 3500$ and buying 40 Beyblade’s the hunt is still going on. People call me crazy for spending 200-500 $ on a spinning toy but I feel like they give me sense of accomplishment like nothing else. They are a proof that I can finally make my inner child happy and nothing else in the world actually gives this feeling.

I'm not trying to collect a large assortment of things. I try to pick one scale to have a small collection to display as self expressive and nostalgic decorations. My problem is that I can't pick a scale and stick with it. I always oscillate between either 1/12, 1/18, or 1/32. Each time I pick a scale I donate most of the other scales stuff to the Good Will. Right now there is a 1/18 Ninja Turtle scowling at me from my entertainment center as I type this.
