I've found, with Basics/Mainlines amd even some Premiums, patience is key. Once the hype moves on, most of the cool ones become available. Also, I found building a trade group is extremely helpful. yes, yes, yes...there are people out there that take all of the stuff everybody's looking for to hoard for themselves, or try to get you to buy for insane prices...i got caught up in this too until i realized how selfish it was, and how much time i was wasting "hoping" that i would find these by going back to the stores over and over again...no more...

You should switch to Tomica! I am from Malaysia and gave up on Hot Wheels and now i changed to Tomica and I never go back to HWheels!

I live near KLCC and I enjoy travelling from time to time to check out Tomica diecast.

I don't find Supers appealing. There's something about that flake metallic finish that's not quite right. And at the end of the day, I'm happy to walk away with a premium I wanted if I can find one.

I died a hero. Got tired of never founding anything and got tired at the frustrating Tuesday morning RLC crap. I went to other brands like Mini GT, Inno64, tarmac, para64, kyosho. Less stress. More detailed cars, more joy.

I'm still fighting the good fight. Got back into collecting for my boy whos turning 4 soon. He loves any random cars, but I hunt for the cool ones. Maybe one day hell find his old collection and trip out how many nice cars he has. If not, its all good, I'm having fun again too.

Omg ive been looking for that porsche key chain since it realeased. I found the coupe casting 2 years ago and hung it on my truck mirror but that porsche is a must have. what a lucky grab. Tomica Premium does have their limited variant in the form of "1st edition" that comes in special red boxes. These red box variants are more limited than their standard black box versions but still much easier to find than those stupid Super Treasure Hunts.

I only buy from scalpers or resellers only if the price match the pegs, 1 to 2 dollar much. And as much i love jdms i just don't have the audacity to spend 20 dollar just for something you could find for a bucks out there. That's why i just move to other brands which offer them price that match the item, tarmac, mini gt etecera. I know young people grew to be adults and some can't let go of said hobbies but if you buy expensively from resellers then you're just dumb imho (unless they're bidding the item) Also I just found my first sth which is the 83 Silverado in a very small retail store on the peg. Ripping them open as a reminder of not being in for the hype

It's the same here in Australia. If it's not the scalpers, it KMart/Target/Big W etc staff that help themselves to the fresh cases before we even touch them. Idk. I dont specifically want to resell. It's nice to have stuff that has value that you could resell for some cash if you're tight. I collect loose cause occasionally i play them so mine's value is lower than others. I remember fondly trying to get the mainline limited Evo 9 Tokyo drift and i looked for it in 15 stores. But in Malaysia you will never them on pegs. Long story short something snapped, and I sold all roughly 4k including the RLC's except some special nostalgic 15 cars that was gifted to me. Went on to build my own damn scale model Tamiyas and never looked back

Ive been hunting for a Gucci Cadillac seville RLC car for ages, because like you, I wanted to collect it and it wouldve been a great thing to show off. I had it in my cart and sold out within in 2 minutes waiting in line to purchase online. It grew on me and made it a goal to cop one some day. Since then, Ive been buying RLC cars that were of "value" just so I can possibly find enough good hyped RLC cars to sell em to get the gucci cadillac seville, I still dont have it and my collection grows in boxes. That transition from collecting to scalping, can get started at any point.

I'm a collector, but i also resell here and there. Since I can't find what I'm looking for in the stores, I pony up the money and buy cases from wholesalers. The scalping has become a problem since 2020. It's gotten worse. My co worker is a collector and has never sold one thing in his collection, and he's been collecting since the late 90s. However, I have seen the scalpers that go first thing in the money, and they never go to the swap meets, or are even in the diecast groups in my area. Diecasting is really popular here in New Hampshire, and all over New England. I look for some of my friends, and they do the same. The over hype with JDMS is a generational thing. I'd hate to be a new collector nowadays. They almost have something to prove. At least 3 guys that collect civics actually have civics, and one of them is a fully built drag car. I don't really care about supers all that much. I've never found one, and that's OK. I buy older supers because I'd rather have the earlier ones pre 2020 anyways. Just cooler cars, in my opinion. That all being said, I'm always having fun, my wife collects too, and we just do our own thing. The skyline I have in my collection, stay in my collection. I used to collect, then realised the value of some and became a reseller, and ultimately a Scalper...i then started fealing bad about scalping so stopped and took only what i want and leave for others. I then since have seen the lack of restocks, an insane amount of recolours meaning i was buying multiple of the same cars costing me loads of money, Mattel did well...and after this I got bored of the hobby and tbh i dont buy as many as i used to so ive pretty much stopped collecting

As someone who just started collecting again 2 years ago, the diecast community in my city was chill. There wasn't a feeling of competition since there were only a few of us; eventually more and more started collecting to the point where they'd start to hoard and eventually resell. This made collecting a hassle and it took away the joy of hunting. Because of this I sold all my HW collection and used the money to buy more premium brands such as MINI GT, Kaido House and Inno64 which did not have any competition. I must say life has been easier knowing that I don't have to be the first to line up when the store restocks and just let them compete with themselves.

I guess the most 'speculation' I do is I'll dig through the bin to see if I can find one or two more if I find one I like. Got to keep one in that precious package or it won't be worth anything! I've got a couple of the Yellow Submarines and Landspeeders. I've seen quite a few of the Hover Mode Deloreans around here but haven't bought any yet, would rather find more of the Hirohata Mercs instead.

I gave up finding sth haha or even popular castings. When i go to my local areas to hunt for hotwheels, i just see the pegs, see if smth is nice, pick it up if not I will just move on. Most of the videos i have seen is ppl opening up fresh box and they find sth. No wonder its rare to find sth on the pegs.

Also the only time I'd buy HWs from a reseller is when they actually did clearance sales. just recently I snagged a modern classic miata for 5 dollars (in toystores they're selling it for 10 dollars here in SEA)

It really pains me too when some "collectors" would even have the audacity to ask out store merchandisers to reserve some hot wheels for them, say "they'd buy it later" and then leave the store afterwards. Once I came in, saw the reserved hot wheels, tried getting one from the pile, only to get warned by the merchadiser saying "a collector reserved it, and they'd be scolded out if they'd give the reserves to me. Like wtf? the "collector" you're talking about ain't even in the store anymore in the first place lol.
