Rod Stewart's "version" is different song! I think that I recall that Stewart ended up apologizing to Dylan for writing a song so similar to Dylan's.

@@captainkangaroo4301 Stewart wrote the song with two band members: guitarist Jim Cregan and keyboardist Kevin Savigar. The structure of the lyrics in this song was similar enough to a Bob Dylan song of the same title that, after its completion, the song was then sent to Dylan, asking whether he had a problem with it. The two men agreed to participate in the ownership of the song and share Stewart's royalties.

This was Thanksgiving in San Francisco and the Band had previously been Bob's traveling band but later toured on their own. Dylan wrote this song for his oldest son. The rest ofthis video, had Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison and a number of people who played during that magic evening. I have watched a lot of times.

I was there too. I didn't know it was being recorded, and I moved around the floor during the night. But that one camera angle from his left side is right about where I was standing when he was up there. It really brought back the memories and a flood of emotions when I watched the movie.

I was 2 in London. I am green with envy. If I had a time machine I might occasionally go somewhere else, but mostly look this concert. Nice to bump into you fellas, it's probably the closest I will ever get. Do either of you have particular stand out memories of the occasion? I don't mean to trouble you, but in a reclusive English way i have often wondered if I would ever have an chance to ask. Well, answer or no, my best wishes to you both

@@michaelclarke5153 I was born in England. My dad got hired as a machinist by United Airlines and we emigrated to the US in 1967, the "Summer of Love". Scott McKenzie singing "if you're going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair" was playing on the plane as we flew into San Francisco. I was 15 and soon got immersed in the music scene. San Francisco was a rock and roll mecca, during the Bill Graham era, when he staged concerts at Filmore West and Winterland almost weekly. My friends were going to shows which ended at 2:00 am while my parents wouldn't let me stay out past 11. Finally, I talked them into letting me go to see Jimi Hendrix in '68. They said, "OK as long as you're home by midnight". All I heard was OK and got home by 3, and they were asleep anyway. After that, I went to more shows than I can remember: Fleetwood Mac with Peter Green. Joe Cocker, the Who, the kinks and many more at Filmore West which was the smaller venue. Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones at Winterland which accommodated larger crowds. All the shows ran three nights Thurs-Sat. Filmore closed in '71, and I went to that all night party, but less frequently to Winterland after that. The Stones played in '72. When the Band announced their farewell, star studded performance in '76. I wasn't going to miss that. The Band themselves were great. "It Makes No Difference" was one standout song. It was great to see Eric Clapton live. I'd seen Van Morrison several times before, and he did a good rendition of Caravan. When the Band sang "I Shall Be Released' they were joined by Dylan, Ringo and Ron Wood. Then there were a couple of jams with Clapton, Ron Wood, Ringo, Neil Young and several others all on stage at the same time. That was 48 years ago, and I probably remember more form the movie than the actual event.

@@LonghopeBro-ju6jl It sounds like you arrived at the right place at the right time. I am glad to hear you made the most of it. I've been to places, seen things. But look at the list you've given me. I've got it all on vinyl, you got it in the flesh. It is nice to know your parents were heavy sleepers! "It makes no difference" does it for me too, "Stampeding cattle may rattle the walls". Hard to pick a favourite of theirs though, too many belters. Eric snapping a string made Robbie's night by the looks of things, what a gentleman. The movie will dominate memories I guess, more recent, probable repetition. Star studded indeed. Thanks for sharing, and keep on keeping on

You never know what you're gonna get with live Dylan. I've seen him live twice and it was like seeing 2 different performers. Also he sang a few of his more popular tunes to different MUSIC!! I thought maybe he was working out a different verse but- no---same lyrics different music....but Bob can do whatever he wants and it will either rock you, make you think in a different way or make you care more somehow. He can do no wrong --imo ❤

"Baby Let Me Follow You Down" followed and is amazing too. This was written while watching his young son at play. Read that he recognised his son in the audience ? (not sure if this is true). Also listen to "Lord Protect My Child" similar vein, about parents and their children

This was an incomplete version. They inadvertently skipped the middle verse. That explains why the song ended so abruptly. The studio version off of Dylan's album, Planet Waves, is a must hear.

can you do Jokerman its also features a few musical stars. Mark Knopfler,of Dire Straits, mick taylor from the rolling stones. sly dunbar and Robbie shakesspear. two reggae music stars the video version is the best by far. Not a live video though. its one of his more recent songs well it's actually over 40 years old now. and in my opinion probably is late classic album or very nearly.Anyway great reaction. BTW if your thinking singing should be a sweet melodic voice hittting all the high notes etc your missing the point somwhere. bob is a great singer, unique, and can really breath life into a song, giving it deep dimensions and redering an air of poignantcy , not always though.

Yesterday I wrote the following to my old brother. Use the Next Button as often as you like ----- I really enjoyed our FaceTime today. I have been making playlists of Bob Dylan and other musicians and things - maybe about a topic, say politics or versions of a particular song or a cover of a song. I decided to send you a playlist called Robert Zimmerman Can Sing. Songs that go into this list are examples of Bob singing that I would send to someone who appreciates his lyrics but also says that he is a terrible singer. I expect no listening on your part, but if you do, I hope you see a wee bit of why his fans see in him one of the greatest vocalists of our lifetime. I call it working the microphone/vowels. You can always click on the Next Song button. Song #2 Blind Willie McGee has Bob playing piano. Song #5 has Bob at 20 singing songs written by others before he believed that he could be a good singer/songwriter; singing wth Joan Baez. kzbin.info/aero/PLbdXV8MbOpy0lOp_AU6s-uisrtMzKnntP

Robin Williams had nothing to do with The Band, certainly not the song The Weight. Robbie looked into his guitar and saw the name Nazareth, and that was the starting point. He explains it in an interview, but he is actually a little coy about what the song really meant. Said he didn't know where it would take him. He was inspired by a film by Louis Brunel (not sure if it's the right spelling) where the theme was that sainthood was impossible.
