Ken Burns highlighted Josh Gibson in his series on Baseball. History should note his talents as one of the best to ever play the game. One day they will have a movie worth watching on the History of the Negro League. 🤓⚾️

Im glad u did a piece on that legend for some reason Josh and Satchel were not picked and i argue its not the fantasied story we've been told about 1947

When I was a kid, my dad told me a lot about the greatness of Josh Gibson. He considered him the home run king and considered him one of the greatest players of all time. I am honestly grateful that my father knew about and respected Josh Gibson enough as a player to not know recognize his stats but accept his statistics before the MLB official recognized negro league players

Pre-MLB Barry should be mentioned in overviews. 3 legendary seasons at ASU and just 115 games in the Pirates minor league system. Side note: The what could have been 82 Giants draft. Giants had drafted Barry out of high school, but could not come to money terms to sign. Supposedly Barry’s minimum was 75k and Giants would only go to 70k. Giants also failed to sign Pete Incaviglia from the 82 draft in a small money dispute with Pete becoming an all-time college great at OSU.

Josh Gibson still owns the batting average record of the Puerto Rico Professional Winter Ball League (now known as the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League) with 59 hits in 123 AB for a .480 mark, including 13 HR (also leader) in the 1941-42 season.

I still believe Barry Bonds, was better. In Gibson’s era they didn’t have specialized relievers coming out the bullpen throwing 100 mph. They didn’t have as many teams making it easier to get to know what each opposing pitcher could do. Besides Barry had blazing speed to go with that power. And Gibson, didn’t have play against the great “white “ players of his era.

Sir, I think you underestimate your audience. Of COURSE I've heard of Josh Gibson. Next are you going to tell me about Satahara Oh? Oh is still alive even. Hideki Matsui basically carried him around the stadium in the torch lighting ceremony at the last Summer Olympics. Matsui's number, 55, was in honor of Oh because the Japanese fans wanted him to tie (but not beat) Oh's single season home run record of 55. Granted, always happy to see these greats who never got a shot in the NL or AL get more recognition and I'm not hating on you for recognizing hall of famer Josh Gibson. But don't think your core audience hasn't heard of him.

Speaking of Barry Bonds, he is an asshole. I played high school baseball with him at Riverside Poly HS and Bobby was a great guy. Not stuck up or anything. Very approachable, even after he made it big with the Giants. When Bobby got cancer, Barry said, "My old man needs to get his ass up off the couch." What a jerk!

Sorry, no. First of all, you can’t extrapolate. That’s indulging in fantasy. All players have slumps. Josh had them too. So did Barry. Sixty games cannot be compared to one hundred and sixty two. Not ever. That Josh never got to play that many in a sanctioned MLB setting is indeed tragic but you still cannot pretend that he did. Not at all. Second: The real tragedy of Barry Bonds was his arrogance. He was better than just about anyone before he started juicing but, hey, not everyone period. He did it because his ego wouldn’t let him not do it. He is DOA on the HOF for a very good reason. Josh Gibson’s tragedy was our fault because many of us cannot see past the color of a person’s skin. We did Josh, Barry did himself. Your final quote from Barry is laughable coming from a juicer. Josh was certainly a great baseball player and the real tragedy is that we never have him the proper platform on which to show us. That is on us forever.
