Gary, i gotta know man.. is worm castings or matured compost as a top dressing enough to keep container fruit trees fed that are in pure quartz sand? or do i absolutly need to use "some sort of" liquid nitrogen fertiliser aswel? im yet to have let my compost mature so its not giving me nitrogen so i just dont know lol

Worm castings and compost should be okay, as long as you don't see any problems with the growth.

What is the magic foliar feeding formula?

The formula is 1 oz each of fish emulsion, seaweed extract, and Kero syrup (or molasses) in a gallon of water.

my bananas roots were actually growing up into the compost on top, not just inbetween the clay and organic matter but actually up into it, were they just feeder/oxygen roots or is it showing me it would rather be planted in the compost?, i have a feeling they want to but i dont know whats worse for winter

The compost layer probably has more oxygen in it than the clay that the banana is in. This doesn't mean that the banana would rather be planted into the compost, but rather that the banana is utilizing the oxygen in the layer. If the banana were planted with in compost, the decomposition of the compost under the soil line steals oxygen from the roots, and produces toxic sewage gases.

god my head haha, i did an experiment with a certain type of plant and the ones in straight 2ml sifted compost ended up being better than the loam mix i made with compost on top, the soil didnt need much extra nitrogen but the compost needed alot, the compost with fertiliser was the best but the compost without it was the worst.. what does it meaaan.. lol so it seems like some plants might prefer to grow in compost where as others just cant handle it? ithink im actually having issues giving all my trees in straight quartz enough nutrients just using diluted urine, i tried a mix of half compost half quartz in the experiment and it was kind the same as the loam pretty good just didnt have the potential of the straight compost, i also had half soil half compost and a few other mixes, over all they all ended up about the same exept the compost without urine and the compost/quartz without urine struggled till now im just feeding them all and they all look great but the compost one is bigger and looks like it can still be fed a bit more nitrogen where as all the others are maxd out on N so theres not much more i can do with them, i had some in straight quartz that just didnt seem to be able to get enough nutrients from diluted urine so now i dunno.. i think ill grow those plants in straight compost and keep refreshing it every 6 months and then for my fruit trees ill try diluting less and see if thats enough, i scraped the compost off because i thought i was having oxygen issues with it falling into the gaps but i think now its just everything is underfed, i want everything to be able to grow in straight sifted compost so bad.. it looks so good and it behaves so good and ahh.. haha, the pile of quartz is killing me i wish i got normal sand so i could make it disapear into my compost without looking silly but i didnt know how i was gonna keep it in the pots with all the big holes, hopefully ill just be able to treat the fruit trees like a kinda hydroponics with urine and compost tea and ill also do an experiment between straight compost and straight quartz with the right amount of urine in each and ill give the quartz compost tea if its really not cutting it with just urine, i mightalso add a straight loam and a crazy mix of a bunch of different mineral materials and compost just to see what produces the best flavours
