To be fair, the first Joker got mixed reviews too (69% on RT, 59% on Metacritic)….yet made over a billion dollars and seemed to be genuinely liked by a majority of people, so it shouldn’t be a surprise the sequel is getting the same treatment 🤷‍♂️

I think what people don't understand is that the comics Matt Reeves is taking inspiration from are stuff like Batman: Year One and Long Halloween. Not necessarily "realistic", but much more grounded focusing on the crime side of Batman. Matt Reeves's comments make a lot of sense. Sure I also wanna see characters like Poison Ivy, Mister Freeze, the entire Batfamily and many others, but that is not the kind of story Matt Reeves wants to tell.

Also, the DCU just by design is going to have a full fantastical Batman. In a world with Superman, Creature Commandos, Lanterns etc., your Batman can only be so grounded.

I think Matt Reeves chose his words very carefully. He said the are going "to push the edge" (pause) of the fantastical elements, but I am still convinced we could get characters like Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, or Killer Croc (to name a few) because their "powers" are rooted in science and have real world elements in them. He gave an example of a character they wouldn't use, Gentlemen Ghost, who is a literal centuries old ghost, so that wouldn't be a feasible option. IF he was not going to use anyone with those more fantastical elements, I am sure he would've given an example of one the characters I've listed instead of a character that has a 0% chance of having any ground in reality.

You could have Poison Ivy in The Batman without her having meta human powers. Like in the early episodes of Batman the animated series. In those episodes she was a normal human, a Doctor in botany so she knows plants and their poisons, like when she made a lipstick to poison Harvey Dent. So you could do something along those lines with Ivy, which I would love to see as she's one of my fav villains. Seeing her as a metta would be cool too but to keep it grounded in the style of Matt Reeves's batman you could still have a none meta Ivy.

I have two theories for this wolfman: 1: this look is just the initial transformation and as the movie goes on he gets more and more wolf-like 2: he’s intentionally made to look less like a werewolf as a sort of mystery for the characters as they try to figure out what he is since he doesn’t look like a werewolf

People asking for the Batman to have supernatural characters lack any form of listening or reading comprehension, this man has stated since the beginning that this universe was meant to be grounded and realistic. James Gunn is literally got the Brave and the Bold for the more comic book, supernatural side of the character. You dont have to like the Reeves take, but don't get angry when it's not what you want it to be, it was never supposed to include those elements.
