Agreed. Some of the camera work mounted on the body panels was sublime. A little hectic, but that worked. It's a chase in the rain at night. Favourite shot was where the camera is focused on the rear 3/4 of the batmobile at speed, rain and background a blur of brown and gold. But he hits the boost and you just have the flame from the turbine in perfect focus. Straight out of a graphic novel.

Really enjoyed this film for its aesthetic, mood, atmosphere and performances but I have to admit that the story and the character arcs were nothing special and didn't top the emotional highs of the Nolan trilogy. As Oliver said, there was nothing really innovative about the action either (although some of the fights were very impressive). Looking forward to seeing more in this series though and Pattinson is fantastic in the lead role.

I agree with pretty much everything said in this review except for the main theme being unimpressive. I thought it was every bit as iconic as Elfman's work. Just in a different way. It's repetitive. But so many of the main themes nowadays are. It has some genuine power and weight to it. It brings a more sinister heartbeat to Batman and it fits this take on the character so well.

@JahidulIslam

It didn't come out nowhere. If you take a close look at the Riddler's live streaming during DA murder, they were talking about some kind of attack on election day in comment section. There was a paper cutting of Gotham having problem with sea dam or whatever that called in Riddler's room. Riddler talks about cleaning the city and removing the dust. He wants to rebuild the city from ground up.

Battinson was great, Farrell, Dano, Kravitz, Wright, Turturo all do a fantastic job, and in some moments the cinematography really captures something special and unique looking. I hope we get a sequel soon that brings in another villain that hasn't been seen in a long time, or ever. Mr. Freeze, Clayface, Poison Ivy, Hush, Huntress, Zsasz, lots of options. What I was *really* hoping for in The Batman was a tie-in to the Court of Owls, but I'll keep hoping

I feel Clayface and Mr. Freeze may be a little too over the top for this grounded Batman universe. I think The Black Mask and Zasaz would work great. @@mbogucki1 Normally I’d agree about Freeze or Clayface fitting in, but at least you can have a Clayface that’s akin to Darkman with disguise ability and some extra strength as a result of his transformation. I literally just got back from it now. Was not going to watch it as I was done with the character and did not want to invest. But was told it had a good car chase and new Batmobile worth seeing. But I must say, this was VERY dark. I remember walking into the theater and seeing signs that said "Under 15 year olds not allowed and get your ID ready" I thought "How scary can it be?" And I must say, hats off to them for being dark. However, you can tell they were still going for a PG 13 as you never saw and of the horrifying damage to some of these people. Just minor hints of blood and that was it. Did it work? I guess. I liked it.

I thought The Batman was alright, but it lacks the "fun" factor of the Bale/Nolan trilogy, and those movies were thought of dark 10-15 years ago, but they look almost lighthearted compared to this movie. For personal nostalgic reasons, I also prefer the gothic, fairy tale atmosphere of the Michael Keaton/Tim Burton movies. This movie was good enough, but it was way too fucking long. People who say "it didn't feel like 3 hours" are smoking crack in my opinion. It totally felt like 3 hours, even 4 hours. I shouldn't be checking my watch in a Batman movie. I also hate when modern movies have a club scene in it too look hip and cool, it feels pretentious. Robert Pattinson is current Batman, and usually what's current is cool and "the best ever!", but he's OK. He's a bit too skinny, and I don't know, I wish there was at least one or two funny moments in there to appreciate. Both the Burton movies and the Nolan movies, as dark as they were had at least one funny moment. This was just a dark, dreary, somber movie. No way I'm taking a kid under 10 or 11 to see this movie.

I hated this movie. The story is so painfully slow and dumbed down. It’s like a bad French Connection with Batman as the lead character. The riddles are pointless and most of the murders are characters who were introduced 3 minutes beforehand. Bruce Wayne and Alfred are barely in it and when they are they just mope. I think people just like any movie that makes their kiddy tastes seem adult these days. This is like the Rogue One of Batman movies.

This 'The Batman' is one of the few modern movies I'm willing to see more than once. 1. Robert Pattison made the role his own and nailed it. 2. Colin Farrell was a pleasantly surprising B-plot antagonist, in his sort-of-peculiar way of portrayal. 3. Zoe Kravitz was luckily not turned into some woke-culture-infested bitch, but kept a very realistic, relatable tone to her character. 4. Paul Dano's portrayal of his character was a fascinating, well thought through and acted out subversion to (probably vast % of audiences') expectations. 5. The rest of the cast did not get enough screen time (IMHO) to really shine / stand out, but did a very good job of keeping up with the tone / atmosphere / mood / spirit of the movie The story itself isn't the best or most innovative in the world, but the script seems very polished & thanks to the director a the crew, it comes out very welcome, in its result. @@blackwaterproduction289 Batman Begins is a better movie all around if you ask me because it actually focuses on Bruce way more and is a damn interesting look into his psyche, and it still had plenty of stuff that embraces the more comic-booky elements of it. Zoē Kravitz was the wrong choice to play Selina Kyle, as she is too urban. She would have been better suited to play Patience Phillips (previously played to slinky purr-fection by Halle Berry) or a black villain or black heroine. Selina Kyle is a white character, and with few exceptions, black people should not usurp characters who were written as white. They should stick to playing either established black characters, or new ones created for them. I shall watch The Batman when it flies to HBO Max.

I saw it a few weeks ago. I really liked it. It's an almost perfect blend of noire-grittiness and the Gotham from the comics, the cinematography, score, camera angles, and directing are all as high in quality as you can get, everybody gave the role of a lifetime (Pattinson is arguably the best live-action Batman alongside Kilmer if you ask me), and I love how the whole movie was basically telling Bruce to get over himself and actually become a symbol of hope and positive inspiration to the city instead of sulking around and letting his anger and rage consume him. Pattinson's Batman is the first Batman since Kilmer's whom I can really imagine actually doing something exactly like what Conroy's Batman does to people he know needs help. Kravitz is also the definitive cinematic Catwoman if you ask me. Also, oh my God, thank the heavens he's back to driving a car, and a really good looking one at that instead of all these tanks! I'm just hoping they get a bit more crazy and realize they need to maybe give us a pause with the absolute down-to-earth Batman and having all the villains being this specific type of psycho. Give me Robin, Mr. Freeze, Clayface, Black Mask, Killer Croc, Hugo Strange, Firefly, Gentlemen Ghost, Scarecrow, Manbat, Mad Hatter, or Poison Ivy in the future!

Just rewatched it, and this is my favorite Batman after Conroy’s. I’m a 90’s kid. Keaton was my first Batman, and Conroy was my second, grew up loving both. When I saw The Dark Knight in theaters, I thought, “THIS is it. THIS is Batman!” I’ve grown to believe that Chris Nolan was more than a little embarrassed about making superhero movies. At the very least, he was apologetic about doing so, in doing so. The Dark Knight is a *morose*-ass movie. The Batman’s dark, it can be depressing (hell, Bruce looks like he’s on the verge of…well, ya know), but it never forgets that it’s a comic book movie. It still *fun*. And the set-pieces, those things that are supposed to amuse and excite? They’re amusing and exciting.

I didn't care for the chemistry between Bats and Catwoman in this movie, at all. I thought the romance aspect was clunky and not well formed whatsoever. Also thought the movie dragged quite a bit, and this is coming from someone who can sit down and watch all 3 extended versions of Lord of the Rings in one day. Otherwise, aside from some minor stuff, it was excellent. Still doesn't beat Nolans films for me though.

It was a good Batman film. Originally my Dad and I thought we should watch it separately since it went 2 hours and 53 minutes. But as the film went on and on my Dad couldn't wait on the next part of the story. So we went all through the end. What convinced me that this proves this is great Batman film was the fact My Dad was not a big fan of Comic book films most he was ok but it was not his cup of tea. The fact it got his attention till the end for me shows it is great. He does like some superhero films like Iron Man but not Infinity War but me I liked them all.

Like you, as a lifelong Batman fan, I was going to see it regardless and knew I'd probably enjoy it, but I was completely blown away by how fantastic it was and am still reeling. Can't wait to go see it again! @@OliverHarper Never imagined you might reply. If I had to expand on it. 🤔 Without a sit-down conversation I'm limited to this comment section. Ok. First. I didn't think Pattinson represented Bruce Wayne or "The Batman" well. His portrayal was weak and inefficient. Not to mention ineffective. Second. Poorly choreographed fight scenes, poor riddles and detective scenes. Third. I didn't feel the chemistry between Zoe Kravitz and Pattinson. Fourth. The movie is too long for a riddler story and not tight enough. The story wanders from Bruce's problems to being Batman, to solving crimes, to "seeing corruption" to the Catwoman story and on. Too many plots and a story not tight enough to tie it all together. Five. Overall a less impressive origin for Batman than any that have come before. Also. The music was very one note. That might have been the point, it didn't vibe well for me, was very boring. Now if you see this and care to respond; I may be able to expound on my points further.

I have mixed feelings on this movie. On the plus side, I really liked the aesthetics, the mood, the cinematography, the supporting characters and the action sequences. What I didn't like so much are (SPOILERS): - the cowl: the horns/ears look very weird and distracting for me. - the main theme song: I feel it boring, uninspiring, too depressing (not dark). - the story: It follows a detective story which I generally like (I love Seven), but it doesn't feel as if batman were really discovering stuff on his own, he is only really following what the riddler is showing him. - the batman character: I understand it's his early days and he is not at his prime yet fighting-wise, detective-wise, outsmarting everyone, with the best gadgets. But usually when someone will eventually become the best at something (the world's greatest detective) you have to show you have raw talent that you will eventually develop, which I don't see this batman showing, as he is only following almost-explicitly laid out clues from beginning to end. It would've been awesome to see growth on him and at the end outsmarting a bit of the riddler and stopping 4 out of 7 bombs so that there is some flooding and he still has to rescue people, or saving the mayor from getting shot and still fighting the goons. I didn't see a great character arc in this film, there is a small thing regarding him not being vengeance anymore but that doesn't do it for me because it's not felt. I don't usually complain about long movies (I love LOTR, the Godfather, all of Nolan's movies) but I could feel time passing on this one, for the previous things mentioned. For me the Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are still the greatest showcasings of Batman to date

Why is everyone loving this so much? First hour is promising but it devolves and becomes a slog. Pattinson is good, but his Wayne scenes, in particular the hospital scene with Alfred feels unnatural and a bit sulky. Whoever reigned in Turturro, Serkis and Dano needs an award because they could have easily ruined the movie by chewing scenery and going over the top as in some of their other roles. To me the strength comes mainly from the villains performance and threat, to that I think it was an epic fail. What started as an amazing and uncomfortable reveal became an absolute nothing and for someone to be claiming that it is an interesting “detective” story…. I don’t get that at all. Apart from 2 minutes of him rewatching his captured video and using his device to flip the image, the actual deductions and pathways are more happen chance than actual or genuine detective work or intuition, the fact that the Riddler isn’t captured but really and simply gives up highlights this. The action set pieces are few and far between and barely memorable at all. Of the few notable choices, Farrell’s makeup…. Hand them the Oscar now, incredible. My other highlight, that other filmmakers need to take note of, Catwoman was easily despatched by Batman, yes it’s true, a 100 pound woman will never present a threat to a 250 pound man in hand to hand combat, bravo to whomever made that decision. All in all, a must see for fans, but for the casual viewer it is way too long, not good at all for kids and I have genuinely no interest in rewatching any time soon. It is a movie made almost exclusively to get me to watch the sequel or the TV spin-off. Good job in creating an ok film in 2021/22 because they are so few and far between.

I have to disagree. I watched Batman '89 and Begins just before The Batman for comparison and Revees take is more faithful than Nolan's take. Even just comparing Gotham City. Nolan's take looks like Chicago/Metropolis during a mild recession while Reeves looks like a dark living, breathing Gothic/Art Deco monstrosity akin to the Arkham series. Nolan's film was good, but it was a cleaner, leaner modern take. But Batman needs to be mean, dark and brutal especially in his first few years.

This movie is not.bad but also not good at all. The fact is that, there is DCU univers in comic books. DC movies should resolve into DC Universe, otherwise what is the purpose of making this great movies. The problem is , DC movie Directors are trying to out do the precious Directors and movies and always trying to make movies different and more darker. For example this new Pattison Batman is unnecessary dark and and trying to be too realistic just to be different from other Batman movie. Although they seem to be good.movies, but it limits few characters like they are portrait in comic book. That is the reason why they can not fit Suoerman in these movies, it was not.possible in Nolans The Dark Knight and now in the new Batman movie. There is no need for a comic book movie to look like Seven or Zodiac just make a good comic book and create a DC universe.

I annot wait to see this film. It does have something of a Batman Begins vibe to me, but I'm okay with that., as Batman Begins" is my favorite solo Batman film. I don't think that we should ever get another Batman origin film, because Batman Begins told Bruce's origin so wel that we don''t need to have the origin plated again. Batman Begins was dark, but not dismal. It had moments of levity that worked within that film. What made that movie work for me is that while it took a serious approach to Batman and his world, it was also FUN. My favorite movie of all time is the first Tobey Mcquire Spider-man film as it was a great origin film that made Peter the focus and not the Green Goblin and told a great coming of age story. Sure, Peter could brood, but the movie never forgot we were meant to have fun. Batman Begins was a lot like that. It told Buce's origin in a great coming of age type way. and it also let the audience have fun while telling a serious story. But enough about the best Batman movie ever made. I like this approach. It seems to me that this is the closest we will be getting to the see the Bronze Age Batman on the big screen. The Batman of the seventies and early eighties was a detective and yes, back then, he was operating out of Wayne Tower. I also like the costume, the action scenes and the voice that Pattison's Batman has. But I don't think that this will be a fun movie. But that's okay. Not all movies can do that. I would like for it to have a hopeful tone, though and not have an entirely cynical or nihilistic view of the world. I also like Catwoman's outfit. I love the set pieces. Not sure about this approach to the Riddler, though. If it were me, I would write him a s darker take on the Frank Gorshin version of the Riddler. He'd be this excited and manic criminal and leave clues, but would only murder if he felt it was needed. He wouldn't be a serial killer per se. That's the Joker's realm.

I genuinely believe that of all the Batman films, the only ones that "get" who Batman are through and through were Mask of the Phantasm and Lego Batman. My problem with many live-action adaptations is that, even if I like them for what they are, the vast majority of them are less showing what the ultimate spirit of Batman is like from his source material, and more directors using it as a canvas to do their own thing and circulate their own ideas with the characters. Not to say I don't like them as movies, I very much do like them as their own works. Sure, Burton films have Batman killing, Catwoman reimagined as a crazy embodiment of some of his fetishes, and turned the Penguin into a Biblical murdering type figure, but they are still awesome, even if Returns is fairly uneven. Schumacher's films are over the top and very goofy, but they do a bit better of a job at giving Batman genuine arcs and capturing how eccentric and vibrant the more campy elements are, even if a lot of the best parts of Forever were cut from the film and Batman & Robin is more a film to get high to. The Nolan films to me were political thrillers that HAPPENED to have Batman in them, but I did enjoy them as Nolan films, even if I think Batman Begins was the best one, I found The Dark Knight to fall apart in the last third, and Rises was just a mess in the bad kind of way. And BvS was...interesting at points but mostly a miss. I haven't seen the film yet due to the risk of the Omicron subvariant, but I sure as hell want to check this out since I am hearing we have a live-action Batman film that is a great blend of a director and writer's unique vision and capturing who Batman is like. I certainly have been having problems with how ever since the Schumacher films have ended Batman has been getting increasingly dark to the point he's becoming the worst type of gritty. I didn't care for the Bush-Administration style apologetic themes in the post-Batman Begins Nolan films (justification for unwarranted surveillance and vilification of Occupy Wall Street), and how Snyder made Batman into a brooding violent psycho who is still justified in all his murder because of what happened to him as a kid. I have wanted a live-action Batman film that captures who Bruce is and what he represents and teaches us. I've been hopeful for the movie ever since Birds of Prey came out really, and that's not just my favorite DCEU film, I think it captured what the energy and spirit of Gotham and its characters are in a way other DC films just don't do for me.
