The Battle of Ain Jalut, also spelled Ayn Jalut, was fought between the Bahri Mamluks of Egypt and the Mongol Empire on 3 September 1260 near the spring of Ain Jalut in southeastern Galilee in the Jezreel Valley.
The battle has been cited as the first time the Mongols were permanently prevented from expanding their influence;
It also marked the first of two defeats the Mongols would face in their attempts to invade Egypt and the Levant, the other being the Battle of Marj al-Saffar in 1303. The earliest known use of the hand cannon in any military conflict is also documented to have taken place in this battle by the Mamluks, who used it to frighten the Mongol armies, according to Arabic military treatises of the 13th and 14th centuries.

The critical part of Qutuz' strategy was the box formation to remove the advantage of Mongol cavalry. He initially used Syrian conscripts who did not have Mamleuki discipline, to form one side of the box, with gaps in between. He was counting on the Syrian foot soldiers to retreat when pressed by Mongol cavalry, which they did, into the remaining three-sided box formed by Mamleuki archers, and then slowly closed the box, forcing the Mongol cavalry closer and closer together, removing their ability to freely move and pivot as they would on an open field. After that it was pretty much an open slaughterhouse. The remnants of the Mongol army fled eastward, and Qutuz and his forces pursued them, killing them, as far as the southern marshes in Iraq. This battle was the turning point that broke the Mongol steamroller, and also a pivotal point in how Muslims and Crusaders viewed Mongol battle tactics, and how to effectively neutralize them.

I love this battle! Lots of moves and changing of tides by both of the commanders. Both were cunning strategists. I also noticed an improvement in music addition, which is always nice! Keep it up! My only criticism would be that the armours (especially the frankish ones) are quite anachronistic (we see 16th century armets in a 13th century documentary) but I enjoyed the video regardless

Ah the battle that stopped the Mongols. Apparently the Mongol commander either surrendered or was captured and all he could he do was spout threats about what the Mongols were going to do in revenge. Eventually it became so tiresome that he was executed. Then again he was possibly simply slaughtered along with his troops.

This battle didn't stop Mongols, it stopped Ilkhanate, a division of the Mongol Empire. I'm not sure its troops had many Mongols. Supreme Khan of Mongol Empire Möngke Khan gave Hulagu Khan of the Ilkhanate a fifth of the entire Mongol army. I remind you that Genghis Khan had an army of 100 thousand people. So probably Hulagu Khan had less than 20 thousand Mongols in his army. Before the Battle of Ain Jalut Möngke Khan died and Hulagu returned to Mongolia to attend the kurultai for the next Great Khan. Hulagu took most Mongols with him. So in Ilkhanate army there were few of Mongols.

You have no idea about logistics. You can't feed an army greater than 20k troops in that territory. Turkic troops consist of the majority of Mongol armies from the beginning. Kutuz, pronounced kootooz. Bab El Zuweila, (the zuweila portal) pronounced with the article "el". Bab El Zuweila. Ein Jalut is pronounced EEin Jaloot. Ein Jalut is Goliath's Spring. Not "Herod's Spring". This battle forever diminished the Mongols influence and stopped them from invading North Africa. It was a sound defeat for the Mongols, their first and decisive one. It marked them psychologically and for the first time, allowed them to contemplate defeat as a possibility of war. Acre is pronounced, acra or St John of Acre.

genghis khan was the only one who could hold the mongol empire together, with his death, it could only split into factional warfare. initial mongol victories were due mostly to the tactics and brilliance of genghis khan's two generals, subutai and jebe. with their deaths, no great mongol generals emerged. given time, opposing kingdoms and empires adapted to the mongol style of warfare which had become stale and stagnant in terms of tactics and weaponry.

A good history provides definitions. It's important to identify parties, such as the Mamelukes. They were warriors who had been captured from northern Slavic regions as boys. They were raised to be fighters and were brainwashed into fanaticism from childhood. They were the elite contingent of Islam and considered quite expendable. BTW; Genghis Khan; hard "G."

OMG. Lets be honest. Truth is another great Mongol khan from Golden horde Berke khan blamed Hulugu for distruction of Baghdad in 1258, even collation of whole Islamic world (cause he converted to Islam years ago). But supreme khan Monghe was side of his brother Hulagu. Fortuneatly for Mamluks, Great khan Monke died in 1259, Hulagu needed to back Mongolia elect next great khan at Khuraldai. But Mongols could not select supreme ruler in that Khuraldai, result was empire divided officially. Meanwhile, Berkhe secretly forged alliance with Mamluks against Ilkhanate, and preparing for great war with Hulagu. Otherwise, mamluks are not stupid enough for doing war with Mongols alone. Their were right, Berkhe reached his word and started great civil war in 1262, before Hulagu began avenge on Mamluks. This clash of two dinosaur was immerse, each side credited over 200k soldiers. Also, it is started collapse of Mongol domination reign.

They didnt lost to muslims they lost to Egyptians they won over muslims infact brought an end to their golden age and yes after 300 years converted to islam, slowly though as it was seen bad by their own religion to convert.

I don't mind watching these types of videos, but I find it rather annoying that I need to sit through what feels like half the video watching game footage. Cut the game scenes short and focus on the narrative. The game footage should supplement the narrative, not the other way around.

This video is very misleading. Ain Jalut was a SMALL battle between just a couple of tumens (20000) of Mongols, who were not actual mongols but mostly warriors from conjured nations. The other side featured a trained army of about 25000 warriors that were practiced to fight together. These numbers are fairly typical for a probing mongol raid, they have sent these probing raids numerous times to explore surrounding kingdoms and find weaknesses and explore terrain. It was also a common strategy to retreat if a strong opposition was encountered, rather than stand and fight. This is exactly what happened. The probing raid was met with a strong opposition and turned back. The thing to keep in mind is that the full army of Monke Khan would have numbered up to 500K warriors and the best tumens of that would be comprised of the actual mongols. If Monke thought it would be a good idea, the mongol army would have smashed Mamluks to bits.

Look at Tucker’s interview with Bret Weinstein. Bret went to Central America to observe and talk with the masses of people who were on their way to our boarder with Mexico. Most are fleeing economic disaster but there was/is a very large group separate from the “normal” refugees of military-age Chinese men who are absolutely not talkative, with their aim to cross our border and do only God knows what! The Tucker interview is an absolute must!! 🇺🇸
