After the “table” and the panic attack I don’t know how people can’t tell that there is something there. Even if the writers are baiting us atp there’s still an underlying romantic vibe there and based on the genius of both Season 1 and 2 so far, I have every really to believe it’s intentional.
@panny7227

What’s confusing me is why Ayo and Jeremy said [Carm and Syd] just friends ? like there’s no way you believe that be so fucking fr rn. Why does Carmen always look at Sydney like that then??? Why is he always touching her and why did they break apart so awkwardly right before getting from under the table? Even if THEY (the actors) themselves don’t see their characters like that, that still means the writers told them to be that way, told them to be intimate with each other. Which means they’d still know there’s a romantic intent between the characters. Therefore pretending they have no clue why people view it romantically is so nonsensical to me. Honestly speaking though, I fully believe that they (the actors) know it’s a slowburn, but so as to not ruin the vibe of the show by outwardly shipping them like some other actors do, and to create a very genuine “will they, won’t they” feel, they’re denying the obvious. What solidifies this to me is the fact that they BOTH, in interviews, have said they think Carmy needs a lot of therapy first. (Which duhh is gonna happen) it feels planned, almost like the creators/writers maybe told them to say that in interviews. Which isn’t far fetched because that happens with pretty much most shows.
@panny7227
@panny7227 11 ай бұрын
And let’s say, just to play devils advocate here, that there really wasn’t any romantic intent there whatsoever, not from the writers, and not from the actors… so you’re telling me Ayo and Jeremy just naturally have that fiery chemistry together and no amount of acting can tame it? (I don’t believe this btw) but like BE SO FUCKING FR RN!!

@@panny7227 I’m not so sure about that… I mean I DO think they are a slow burn relationship on the show, but the WHOLE REASON I ever decided to watch the show was their crazy chemistry during this award season. Just watching them interact on stage and interviews was like 😮😳🥹 and it sent me running to the show… watch them in real life! The chemistry is real. Ps I’m not saying I think they are really together… it just made me think that the chemistry the created on the show was still shimmering between them off camera and I just had to run go see it 😅

@@SpartanAesthetic It's interesting thing think about. The show really does swing wildly back and forth between good news/bad news moments, and it's tough to know if we'll truly end up on a "happily ever after" ending for the characters when all the dust settles. @JeannesMovieChats Great show, great review! First time viewer. I'm a Claire fan (Sidney seems more like a little sister to Carmie), but Sidney deserves a stand-up guy as well (maybe Marcus can be that guy after all?).

No way its Richie. Richie NOTICES the chemistry between Syd and Carmy. Notice they gave Richie a moment to look at Syd and Carmy as Syd was upset he tore down the wall without telling her? I wouldnt be surprised if Richie is the 1st to know. What's going to happen is that syd is showing she fits in with rhe family, how she took care of natalie since natalie takes care of everyone else and checks in.., syd fits even with the dysfunction of the Berzattos. The stabbing is something that would totally happen at their christmas party lol.

I really feel like that was just Richie being like “ooh, you’re in trouble!” Or a “The girls are fighting!!” Type of moment. Like I feel like he wouldn’t be so pushy with Claire if that were the case, y’know? But I also really want it to be him noticing something between them 😭 like imagine in season 3 or 4 Richie says something about carmys girlfriend in reference to Syd and they get all flustered (but like in this show it would probably be like both of them say “fuck you,” or “shut the fuck up.” at the same time)

Ok my two cents ….. I think Carm and Sydney are two people with avoidant attachment styles , that’s why I think Sydney in a way rejected Marcus and Carmy in a way was waiting for the other shoe to fall off when with Claire but u can’t help but notice how when (Syd and Carm ) are together they both warm up to each other ,she tells him her fears and he in turn listens and affirms her and in return Syd seems to be the only one to who can calm the chaos that surrounds Carmy , all the noise suddenly stop like dude literally looks &doesn’t blink when he stares at her , he reads her body language too well too and is able to tell when she wants to say more ….. Now Claire , Claire is a good woman to be honest the only problem is they didn’t ( the writers ) give us enough to actually fall in love with Claire whether intentionally or not , notice every woman in the show is written well(Sydney Sugar Tina )u hve to admit baby gurl is a bit boring …. With Marcus he is such a great guy I think in season 3 We may get a Marcus and Sydney ship first coz Carmy might refuse to date again maybe coz he believes it distracts him but I think this may also trigger his attention if he sees (M&S) because that would mean he no longer has Syd’s full attention like he did before !!!😊

Ooh, totally agree. I think of New Amsterdam and how Max and Helen always had the chemistry but they had to go all the other folks before they come to each other. I think the same will happen to Sydney and Carmy. Sydney was a bit jealous and annoyed with Carmy with Clare. Probably in S3, as much as I don't particular like to see Marcus and Sydney, but I think they'll hookup and Carmy will be a bit jealous. They'll , Syd and Carmy will go through their share of unsucessful people coming and going before they actually will hook up themselves.

Like the part in Carmy's apartment when he says it's going so good he doesn't want the other shoe to drop and she's like "what if I said that no one is counting shoes" I was like UGH SHUTUP 😂 Or the fact that they hadn't been around each other for a few years (while he was in Copenhagen and New York) and she's so quick to be in a relationship with him and expect everything to be perfect - just seemed doomed to fail in this chapter of Carmy's life.

I believe the message the writers may be setting up with Claire's character is that just bc someone/something seems perfect to other ppl (his family) and may seem perfect on paper (says & does all the right things), doesn't mean they're perfect for you. Carmy has an absence of passion for Claire, and she is simply a distraction. A lot of ppl believe Carmy just needs to learn balance to have Claire & the restaurant, but I don't think that works for everyone and I dont think that's why their relationship was causing him anxiety. Some ppl need a partner that is more aligned with their true passion. Having a shared vision can provide space for both romance and success in this chosen profession. In S2e9, they showed that Sydney is Carmy's sense of peace that eases him of his anxiety. They also showed that they can take turns supporting one another. They're a good team when they lean on each other. I think Claire was used to push him to his next level of opening up to Sydney without Sydney having to deal with struggle love. Whether we liked Claire or not, she unlocked Carmy's ability to grapple with his past, which he needed to do before he could move forward with who he has become and who he wants to be moving forward. Claire served 2 purposes: Syd won't be Carmy's first gf and now the audience has a relationship to compare Sydcarmy to that emphasizes everything that makes them work as a pair.
@clarissaexplainz
@clarissaexplainz Жыл бұрын
@@NBAgladiator Love your breakdown and I especially agree on what Claire's role is in Carmy's journey to grappling his past and moving forward to the present and future. I saw a really wonderful comment in another video describing Claire as representative of Carmy's past and Sydney as his present...and future (because of the restaurant). I forget what episode I saw recently from either S1 or S2 mentioning how Carmy never had a gf and now it makes perfect sense why the first one for him would have to be that of Claire (in order for Carm to develop). Now I'm curious to hear your take on where Marcus fits in with all of this!

Like that scene where the group is yelling and she randomly introduces herself, or when she brings out Carmy to party in the middle of him working on his restaurant. It’s so cringy when he tries😂😂😂 I feel a little bad talking about both of them, I know they are just characters, but they both seem like genuinely nice people, and I think the writers painted it in a way to make them a bit annoying. That’s how I felt too. I know she was hurt and that’s completely understandable, but breaking it off with him showed, to me, that she knew nothing about him, was instead obsessed with the idea of him she created in her head and then was disappointed when he proved to be wayy more fucked up than She anticipated. I also don’t see why Carmy gets so much shit for what he said because he didn’t intentionally do that to her. He didn’t know she was listening and he was LITERALLY LOCKED IN A REFRIGERATOR! He was freaking the fuck out, as anyone would be. They just all need to communicate better ugh. Richie had his moment this season but then, *I* think anyway, he fucked it up by batting for Claire so hard at the end. It was weird and unnecessary to me.

Love your breakdown and your energy! ❤. I also see the potential for Carmy and Sydney, but I think that it had to go this way first. Carmy was SO removed from having a relationship and I think that Claire’s character was there to let him see that it’s a true possibility for him. I also think it would have been hard for him to be with Sydney whilst she was his hire and he was serving as a mentor of sorts - as he doesn’t seem like the type that would want to take advantage of any power dynamic. Now that they are partners and Sydney has successfully run service without him they are on equal footing. Since he will be focused on the restaurant moving forward BUT he’s had that glimpse of a intimate relationship and how that feels, he may allow himself to feel more than colleague energy between them. Or at least, here’s hoping!

I’m late to the party but I LOVE your analysis of this series thus far (I appreciate the time stamps!). The writers leave so much of this show up for interpretation from the audience and some of these takes have been really polarizing. I haven’t seen a show with this much discussion since Game of Thrones or maybe Breaking Bad, and I didn’t watch either of those all the way through. I’m happy to be a part of this conversation. All I can say is that The Bear is just the ✨quintessential✨ post-covid American dramedy with working class characters. It’s set in CHICAGO. This city itself is a supporting character. All of the characters are so thoughtfully crafted and nothing is spoon fed to us. Can’t wait for season three. Excellent video!

I am reluctant with Carmy and Sydney. Part of me wants it so bad but then the other part of me feels like, when I get it, I will be disappointed or it will make me feel uncomfortable to watch. I feel like there’s always an issue when you don’t initially establish two characters as being romantic love interests and then they become romantic later on in the show, it can feel like a brother and sister being in a relationship. The jump from platonic to romantic is tough for writers to pull off in my opinion, especially if viewers go in for two full seasons with “platonic business partners” in mind. I feel like the model for this type of relationship is Rick and Michonne from The Walking Dead. The writers of The Bear would need to take some notes on how to successfully make the “work wife” into the actual wife from those characters. But in Rick and Michonne’s case, I do think the foundation for their eventual union was hinted from the jump still, even if it was very subtle in the beginning. And the writers and actors involved, never denied that it was a possibility… I just hope that if/when Carmy and Sydney do happen, that it will feel like two lovers finally getting together and not two besties who are trying to force something romantic.

I agree and have great examples of what they can base the potential relationship of with Rick and Michonne. But yeah, like if they gonna write their romance like how they did it with carmy and Claire, then I don't want it!!! Another example they can base it off from can be Monica and Chandler(on how to do friends to lovers )

man, this is a Damn Good Show indeed! i hella appreciated the individual episodes for each character. the star-studded cameos were fun, too. & speaking of cameos... "Fishes" felt like i was running a freaking marathon. had to take a break halfway through & then make myself a drink to get through the rest. decompressed afterward. it's sad to think that there are people like that. epigenetically passing down their generational trauma & literal drama. it's heartbreaking to see what it is like. & be reminded that it's what took down Mikey. we also comprehend how it is that Carmy can thrive under extreme pressure. but i'm with you, i want to see him & his crew succeed! but not at the cost of not finding happiness with someone. i did not want to like Claire at first. but even though she grew on me, i knew it was a doomed dalliance. that the damn shoe would drop somehow. that he doesn't think he deserves love because he's broken. when she overheard him regretting his entanglement with her, i felt badly for her, & for him. but through it all, it's really because i TOO want Carmy to be with Syd eventually! i'm staying patient. Claire is too obvious, you know? i am here for the slow-burn with Syd.

I haaaate the way Claire is written. Like she's not mentioned at all in season 1 then all of a sudden they have all this history. His whole family is invested in her? She's an ER dr and we NEVER see anything important about her work. She's written like the dead wife of a cop at the beginning of a movie. Very manic pixie dream girl lol

I think Claire is supposed to be “annoying” because Carmy is distracted by her. I don’t think Syd and Carmy “need” to be together but there is a relationship there. I feel like Syd also self-sabotages in her relationships because she is driven and ambitious and wants a star. That is what matters to her and she doesn’t want to fail again. That’s the direction, in my opinion, that season 3 would go in.

Oh my gosh, I enjoyed this video so much. I have subscribed, and look forward to watching your other videos. I agree with you on every👏single👏point👏 I am definitely team Sydney and Carm and that under the table the scene was exactly what I needed. And I felt bad for how much I did not like Claire. Ha ha, it was nothing personal, but she was seriously like a fly that I wanted to swap away. To be honest, I fast forwarded some of the scenes with them😂🤷‍♀️ I feel a little petty about it as well, but the way you said it, she just wasn’t on the vision board. But I think that was very intentional in the writing of her character. I loved every character arc this season, and I cannot wait for next season. Also, yes yes yes to Jamie Lee Curtis. I too felt bitter earlier this year with the Oscars, but damn, she sure deserves an Emmy for this role.

I'm so glad to find your channel. I was so happy to hear someone who just wasn't feeling Claire. I wasn't hating, but I wasn't too happy for her and Carmy to hook up. However, as I rewatched certaing episodes in Season 2, I found myself torn about their relationship. In episode 10 when Carmy hears the voicemail, that was sooooo hard to digest. At first I was like "YES!!!" when she overheard his tangent in the freezer, but then listening to the voicemail made me think differently. Then, I'd rewatch the opening scene in Episode 9 -- the lovemaking scene. It was so beautifully filmed and she beautiful to watch and feel the love that Carmy was experiencing. Then I started to think perhaps Claire might be okay for him. But, y'know to successfully have a true love relationship; it requires, love (for each other and for things in life), respect, companionship, communication, intimacy (not necessarily sexual) and a true partnership. Claire and Carmy have some of it but not all. Romance doesn't really last on it's own. Sydney and he tend to have most of the more essential qualities. It's like Helen and Max in New Amsterdam (if you ever watched that show). I'd hope he doesn't run after Claire once he's released from the fridge (he probably will, but hopefully she'll see he's too broken and has too much baggage) and he comes to terms with his feeling with Sydney and act upon it . They can work...carefully. I think the writers will take us on a little ride first before the realization manifests. Love, love , love this show. Love, love, love your channel. And I'm glad to discover Jeremy Allen White and crew.

I’m so conflicted about your VISION. Yes! I see the potential and yes, the writers are playing with our emotions there because when the two of them connect over food and have epiphanies together, its special. But there is something special about Claire with Carmy and Syd and Marcus is potential! In a way I’d love to see Carmy and Syd end game. It would be very interesting but the other combos would be great too and perhaps better fits.

Great review! I truly enjoyed season two and I honestly think it was better than season one. I actually have the same opinion as you in that Jamie Lee Curtis definitely deserves an Emmy nomination, if not win, whereas I felt a little bit differently about her Oscar win earlier this year lol but she was phenomenal as the complicated and broken matriarch. Jon Beranthal also deserves major recognition and praise. Claire was annoying to me because she interfered with the #1 relationship on the show - Carmy and Sydney . and not even in a romantic way . They need to function in harmony for the Bear to succeed and I felt she took Carmy away from the Bear aka Syd when he needed to focus on the impossible opening date that he created. I felt she only served the purpose of reminding the audience that Carmy is unable to balance personal and professional. Although I didn’t see it in season one I definitely was rooting for Sydney and Carmy as a slow burn couple by the end of season 2. To envision Sydney to stop a panic attack was not a “platonic” moment IMO and the under the table scene was the most intimately sweet moment I’ve ever seen on television. But I’m going to need both of them to work on their past trauma before they become a couple. Richie was the unexpected surprise of character arcs that I did not see coming and he has risen to become a favorite of mine! Marcus and Tina deserve the world. Can’t wait to see season 3!!!

I truly cannot decide if Syd is better suited with Carmy or Marcus! Until that table scene I was 100% a Marcus but I can’t deny the chemistry! Both came out of nowhere tho as there was hardly any hints in S1. Richie definitely not lol I think they’re more like the 2 ends of the spectrum personality wise and them coming closer represents the restaurant coming together. This season was so good I usually don’t rewatch shows until lots of time goes by but this one I just had to see again right after it ended. The part where Richie is singing Taylor Swift ugh 😩

I love this state of just figuring things out and having chemistry with each other. If anything, if the writers get Syd and Carmy together, it would be short-while, they'd probably break up and pretend it never happened, or they'd confess to each other but be to afraid to get into a relationship so it's just awkward in the kitchen lol. If they're getting Syd with Marcus, it would definitely be way less chaotic and more wholesome if anything. Well, Marcus would have to break Syd's outer shell first
@rosa_stars349

and yea, Syd and Richie in a romantic relationship would make no sense lmfaoo they act more like siblings or friends, I believe people are just really attached to the "enemies to lovers" trope in the media and want to apply it to this show.

On a serious note I love Sydney as a character & like Eyo said she wears her heart on her shoulder & she's putting in the work and it showed she didn't fumble the rehearsal dinner she's growing and it should continue, l share the same sentiments with her dad she needs a partner whose willing to grow and Cammy regressed he doesn't trust her and the nerve of him to tell her the chaos menu was only brought back because CLAIRe talked him into it🙄🤨. I don't want to feel like Loki all over again & these writers and showrunners being like HuLk smashing potential great ships as they have done previously with Sleepy hollow, new Amsterdam, the walking dead michoine and Rick to cite a few it goes down hill hard real quick as soon as the black girl turned into a love interest or its undenialable there is onscreen chemistry.Its always like is it really that difficult to insert love for these otherwise thoughtful written characters.lastly Eyo & Jeremy when addressing the Ship in interviews they don't seem Warm to the idea so with a huge SIGH!!! On my end l don't think it's going to happen it's giving #Vampire diaries BONNIE & Elena's ex the older bro Forgot the name

Coming from a restaurant environment I see how syd and carmy could have feelings for each other but it is through their love and respect for what they’re doing and maybe not so much because they want to be together romantically. Friendship is big in restaurants and if you have someone you can love and trust that goes a long way for the success of both of them. Personally, I want Claire for carmine lol that scene where she’s listening to him vent as he’s reflecting and doubting himself for not investing himself fully as he felt hit so close to home for me.

I am so torn about whether I want Carmen and Claire together. At first, I didn't want Claire and Carmy at all. I felt in some ways she was stalking him to a certain degree. Later I started thinking that maybe she'd be okay for him. That lovemaking scene in Episode 9 was so beautifully done and then the voice mail at the very end in Ep 10 was so sweet. I started to changed my mind about their relationship. I felt sad for her (and him). However, I am still routing for Sydney and Carmy but not 100% that a romantic relationship could work. But, y'know, overall, a successful relationship in general needs respect, communication, love not so much "romance". Romance is temporary.

I understand where the Sydney and Carmy shipping comes from, but I really would embrace more of a "Don-Draper-and-Peggy-Olson-from-Mad-Men" type of relationship. They were soulmates, and it looked like they would be in each other's life forever, but it was purely platonic. It was beautifully written and so much more complex than a romantic relationship. I think that type of relationship between Carmy and Sydney would work extremely well.

I feel for Claire because while she was a distraction to Carmy she was the fan trying to catch the stray ball, rather than the unfocussed player, who was Carmy, in Uncle Jimmy's story. As Luca mentioned to Marcus; you need a life outside of work, for perspective, inspiration and ultimately growth and happiness - but Carmy is messed up, he's not fit for a relationship - even though an understanding childhood crush like Claire who has experience with a stressful job was his best shot at a healthy, loving partner. It's not Claire, Carmy just isn't ready yet. Props to her for walking away, even though I hope Carmy catches up to her in season 3. I think the lesson from Marcus helping that poor man is that life goes on. He hangs around, trying to help, willing to put his life on hold to get the injured biker additional help but the guy just thanks him and lets him go - this will be his trail in season 3. Whether he can let his Mother's passing wash over him and move on his life or if he'll regress and stunt himself in grief. Tina rising to the challenge after being so vindictive at the start of season 1 was beautiful to me. Sydney empowered her and Carmy equipped her with the knife (Knighted her), she gave herself a chance to embody her potential and it's paid dividends; so satisfying to see become so rounded and supporting. Episode 7 shook me; that manic chaos got under my skin, could only watch it once but I can still hear that bloody alarm...

Also you're also such a joy to listen to 😆 Few people have reacted to this gem of a show, so I'm glad you covered it in depth. I love your enthusiasm and humor! I definitely agree with most of your points except shipping Syd and Carm hahaa. I get why people would ship em, but I love that they are close friends.
