Napkins was an absolutely outstanding episode in this season for me. How Tina sat down, took a bite from the sandwich and immediately bursted into tears, and the authentic conversation she had with Mikey that is so relatable with so much raw emotions. It gave us a glimpse into her past and why she was the way she was towards Syd in S1 and made me understand why she loved Mikey so much. The acting was so natural and it felt like listening to two real people bantering. After watching ths ep it made me miss Mikey who is a dead fictional character that i feel like i've lost in real life lol

The reminiscing at the table scene in the finale is one of my favourites. I think it connects to so much of what series 3 shows us about hiw toxic Fields was for Carmy and how he needs to act more like his other mentors. It ties together his story and sets him up for euther falling apart or excelling as a leader not just a chef. We also get great Sydney stuff with her having to reflect over her own experience at The Bear with everyone else reinforcing that their current dynamic can't work long.

I think people had issues with this season because it deconstructed the traditional narrative of “Introduce conflict/solve conflict” we are used to. It instead chooses to dwell on singular conflicts all season which drives the anxiety and stress of the characters. The anxiety it makes us feel is absolutely the point. Our questions not being perfectly answered is what makes it real.

I think the "Subtract" goes a long with "Everything that grows together, goes together." Like Carmy sees the "subtract" as less ingredients better product, but he starts off the season adding menus, adding stress ADDING and then the finale is him confronting the embodiment of all of his insecurity.

Episode 1 is an absolute delight. The non-stop music and editing almost make it like a stream of consciousness and in general I love how this season commits to the style of the episodes. It doesnt shy away from just being in one place and making that thrilling or make it almost dialogue-free like in episode 1. I also love how it doesnt really introduce anyone new and just deepens who we already know. I also agree with what you said about the plot progression and I think it's because they already got renewed for another season and filmed season 3 and 4 together so they wanted to take their time ig.

It is both a lot of things I liked and disliked about this. It overall felt like treading water, not bad or god awful like some folks make it out to be, but do feel it was a significant step down from the previous seasons. I really enjoyed some character moments/interactions and character centric episodes, but it really did feel like a ‘part 1’ setup season, which could be cool, but I don’t think it was executed very well with the Bear S3.

The style of this season was very much like the dishes Carmy is obsessively working on: Sparse, minute details and lots of empty space where seemingly not much is happening. I don't think it was the best season, but I have rewatched it twice since it first aired and I think a lot of the small details will pay off in Season Four. I think we will look back and realize this was necessary.

It's funny how much Carmy not dealing with finances is biting him in the ass. Looking back at season 1, there were things that he just wasn't dealing with financially that Richie, Sydney or someone else dealt with. He wants to do everything all at once. With how high pressured everything is now, their falling in line. Everyone (but Syd) got training and they are wanting to see the fruits of their labor. But, they can't improve at the dishes because he's changing the menu every day. Carmy "not needing personal enjoyment" just means he's making everyone around him miserable.

It feels surreal and meta how they presented it. Carmy being a perfectionist and keeps asking everyone to refire the dishes on later episodes, his current mindset reflects on the "contrived & pretentious first episode" on how he sees things in his head but the opposite on how he handle things in reality in the latter episodes which makes him a pretentious prick in the eyes of his coworkers. In the first episode we get to take a look of what's inside Carmy's head, everything that inspired and traumatized him why he wants everything to be perfect because in his head it should look, feel, and taste like the montage that we see.

DUDE this show is so well made with it's super tense and "realistic" dialogue that's like a fever dream of clever camera cuts and close up shots of repetitive technical tasks culminating in character development we've already seen 3 times! Carmy is haunted by Cheffrey winger sitting in the corner, Richie is in a nice tux on a redemption tour as he improves his front of house abilities, Sydney and Carmys future is uncertain and so is Carmy and Claire's relationship. I just described to you both the last episode of season 2 and the last episode of season 3. That's absolutely fucking lazy. Also, Richie and carmy have the best chemistry out of all the characters by far, so they did what? Wrote an entire season without them speaking to each other. Garbage. Sydney and pastry chef can't act for shit. Their attempts at making their characters seem uncertain just comes off as the actors being uncertain how to act. "UM...LIKE....UM...LIKE". Takes me out every time. The napkins episode was the most boring, up-it's-own-ass piece of Emmy bait horseshit I've ever seen. 48 minutes just for JLC to say "I know I'm crazy but I'm a mom and a human too" and the daughter to say "I don't wanna be like you." With just annoyingly close shots of their face.

The season was…not good. It’s unfortunate, but that is the reality. Acting? Stellar. Cinematography? A little gratuitous at times but great. Editing? A little excessive as if to show off how much money they got this season but again: clearly a high talent level here. The plot and the character development just aren’t there. Very little was accomplished in these departments. You can almost skip this entire season and nothing would be lost. We wasted SO much time on backstory that developed nothing we needed, banter, and Faks that we didn’t start or resolve ANYTHING at all this season. Way too much sizzle and very little steak.

It deveolps plot points and purposely leaves them unresolved. Obviously the review, but no resolution to his relationship with Claire. What is happening the Sydney andher new opportunity (she should leave and take the opportunity to growin her profession ) . And Marcus developing the new dessert its not fair to us the audience for them to open so many plot points and purposely leave them unresolved and us unsatisfied. And lastly please curb the amount of time spent with the Fecks it immediately turns grates on me the huge drop in the quality of performance and story when the twaddle on for long stretchs. So much of it is meandering, drifting, too reliant on soundtrack, intimate conversations that don't compel, entirely pointless banter (esp. between the Fak bros.), and episodes that are so dull or uncomfortable to watch, I end up skipping parts of it. It's a shame, because the acting is great, the general idea is great and the continuity of the struggle and Carmy's growing obsession with michelin star status.
