Welcome back to a deep dive into another random beauty standard our society has cooked up and placed on everyone. In today's digital age, everybody’s so creative! Before you do any sort of makeup, whether it’s a trendy Douyin look or an anime cosplay for running errands - your skin is the most important factor. Cause of the influx of online content and beauty filters skincare has become so popular that every celebrity is coming out with a skincare line. Every time we see an influencer, kpop idol, or someone famous we notice how the standard is glowing skin in a permanent state of golden hour lighting with no imperfections. It’s not just acne we have to worry about anymore but all of the above. For some reason concerns about fine lines, sagging, and anti aging are starting to make their way to the younger generation. Nowadays we’re not sure if it’s makeup, TikTok filters, or just genetics. This Beauty Standard Doesn’t Exist - Perfect Skin #edvasian

As someone who works at an Ulta, I can confirm children have been coming in droves for the Drunk Elephant products and leaving it a mess. They keep getting so disgusting so quickly my GM told us to just not make testers of them anymore. Also they're bronzing drops have been sold out since like Black Friday and I still get asked 5 times a day if we have them, and most of the people asking are 12 year olds. I just know these kids parents just drop them off at the mall with their credit cards and let them run havoc. Granted, me and my friends used to hang out at the mall as kids but we would never wreck anything and also we had like $20 to spend so we'd shop the clearance sections and then still save a couple bucks for food. I don't wanna sound like a boomer but some kids need to learn to respect public places.

Working in retail, often teens and tweens are out of control when alone, but just as often are parents actively telling the children they are with to go ahead and trash the place, or adults just trashing the place without any kids around.

There's a few beauty influencers that use filters that help even skin tone and create a certain shape to the face, and in comments below, there are always followers who post they are discouraged to see how blemished, textured, and uneven their faces are, compared to the influencer, who is filming with filters.

Filters are so annoying sometimes, they have tricked us into being insecure about our unique features. They try to change people into this unachievable, unrealistic, symmetrical face. The internet honestly made us more insecure about things we shouldn't be.

I normally don't wear makeup, but when I do I feel like I'm doing it "wrong" because of how my skin texture and peach fuzz appears with the makeup. It's just a lightweight foundation that I wear and I felt bad about it at first but now I realize how much I've been conditioned by filters and have to get over it.

I saw Ateez in concert in December, and because I was so close (mild flex), I was surprised by how much texture I could see on the members' skin, then realized, duh, they're human, of course their skin has texture! We constantly get fooled by marketing and retouching into thinking our favourite celebs are flawless and their skin is a part of that flawlessness, but oftentimes (at least for me), it's their humanity and flaws that makes us fall in love with them. So I wish that part of the industry were more honest

I’m a licensed esthetician and the only products I recommend for my younger clients are a cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen. Or even a moisturizer and sunscreen combination for clients that don’t want to have so many steps. For my acne clients I usually let them know to get a spot treatment for their acne. My clients come to me to help them manage their skin and I let them know they are still young and their hormones are the ones causing acne. I always tell them it is fine they don’t use the products. My job is to recommend and it’s up to them, with all my clients I never force them to use something. Also I don’t know if it’s still happening to kids but why do others bully each other for their skin, they can’t control acne from happening. Genetics play a huge part in getting acne, like are they going to make fun of their parents as well. But my point is you don’t need a 10 step beauty routine when you’re just a teenager, you’re a kid and you’re still growing.

Psoriasis and excema and spider veins? Damn, your skin is really set to hell mode 😰 I've only dealt with cystic acne and that was already hard, it took a lot of time to figure out I break out mostly because of drinking milk, which my mom always told me would make me taller... I spent so much money on skincare but nothing actually made a huge difference as giving up all dairy foods (which is so hard because I love cheese and ice cream 😭) Your skin is probably a tough battle everyday, don't get too frustrated with yourself if you make some progress but still get flare ups and break outs and bruises, sometimes I still eat some cheese because I want to live well in the moment and deal with the consequences later 🫣 Skin is so personal that others advice may not be all that useful, so all the best luck to find treatments or lifestyle changes that work for you!

I know it isn't going to give me beauty filter-esque skin, but that isn't the goal for me anyway. My skin was was a huge insecurity for my late teens and most of my 20's, but at 30 I am just about making budget friendly choices to achieve healthy skin and have my daily self-care moment. I will not lie though, I was chatting with one of my former students who just turned 21 and he thought I was "24, maybe 26 at the oldest" and it gave me such an ego boost. Those 12 steps are doing something....

a lot of these pictures are also taken at events and makeup meant to look for the camera tends to be more heavy-handed so close up pictures like the ones shown in this video tend to make them look worse.

Honestly same but I think it's because they wear heavy foundation all over their face (because it looks good on camera which is a huge part of their job). And heavy foundation kinda makes blemishes look worse imo

Also, I hate how people with acne are perceived as lazy. In my case, it's literally genetic and I have an active skincare routine, but my gene pool doesn't give a shit. I never had a say in my condition and can only ensure it does not deteriorate. (my father had acne till he turned 30)

I feel so bad for the tweens that're being sold all these complex, expensive skincare routines when all most of them need is a nice simple face wash + SPF. I do wish there were more skincare options when I was a teen (mid 00s) but I was literally the only friend with a dedicated skincare routine until we were all in our 20s. If you've got good skin you can definitely get away with a babywipe and some £3 moisturiser when you're young lol

Thanks a ton for creating such content and giving us all the "reality checks" ! Even I used to think "flawless and perfect skin "something that actually exist and these so called celebrities & influencers are glamorizing & diluting their audience's mind to a level that they get insecure and underconfident about their natural and perfect humanly features 😔

i get that perfect skin is often a lie, but it does exist. kinda. perfect is subjective but i know so many people irl with flawlessly glowy, smooth and even-toned skin, nary a blemish in sight. thats what pushes me to try and achieve the same, not really the stuff online. if you literally cannot find a single flaw on someones skin then yeah, its perfect🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah my mother was one of these mythical magical beings. Absolutely flawless perfect skin. Never got acne, smooooooooth soft dewy skin… and I on the other hand got my father’s cystic acne ridden ruddy prone-to-wrinkling skin. Some people are blessed. I’m just not one of them 😂 Mom was a literal model tho!

True. But it's rare enough, and even more rare when it's natural and not the result of careful treatment. I had a college mate whose skin is clear and dewy and looks so soft, I used to stare at her sneakily just to admire it. I couldn't fathom how someone's skin can be that flawless.

I don't have dewy, but the skin on my face is pretty close to perfect. I have pores and all but no acne, discoloration or major texture. Major flex, someone asked me how long it took me to put on makeup, I was like maybe 1min for eyeliner? They thought I was doing full face, and I don't even own foundation. What works for me: no skin products, no facial cleanser, wash lightly with warm water while showering, remove sunscreen like makeup if outside a lot, otherwise no sunscreen and avoid sun like covid.

Your one-liners have me cracking up! 70 year old grandpa (K-pop). 😂 You are hilarious! I’m Fil-am (Asian) and my daily regimen consists of Cetaphil daily cleanser and moisturizer then lip balm (Carmex or Aquaphor). Maybe 3x a year I’d wear lipstick for occasions. I never liked foundation. I feel like my skin can’t breathe. But to each her own. I tried/played around with filters with my family and we just started cracking up because it’s so NOT normal! No one can look that “perfect.”

My sister keeps saying stuff about how bad her skin is, and the other day I literally was like “you’re 13! Your skin is just like that!” I remember worrying about acne when I was her age too though. It’s taken a while to change my mindset from “acne is disgusting and should be eradicated” to “just wanna wash my face and be clean, not worry too much about acne since it’s generally outside of my control half the time anyways.” I’m just glad I’m too lazy to care at all about makeup.

I am old enough to remember when KZbin upgraded to be able to host 480p and thinking it was such a huge step in quality. Now I can tell when a vid isn't in HD and it feels off. It's so weird to think that I used to spend hours watching 240p videos and thinking nothing of it. Now I pretty much expect every video I watch to have at least a base skin filter on it, I find myself not trusting any makeup until I personally try it. Also, I love that you touch a bit on privilege when it comes to healthy eating and living, you earned a subscriber!

Getting used to not wearing makeup, not taking filtered selfies has really helped me love my natural self. Im living my life unfiltered and it feels so damn good to walk out, being able to rub my eyes or touch my face! Aside from that, my skin tone has evened out and my skin is so hydrated. I feel clean and breathable… not filtered and heavy or caked. Not that theres anything wrong with that but you just dont get the same freedom or confidence that naturalistic traits bring.

i used to be so conscious of my skin, because sometimes i have a lot of breakouts, sometimes i have none, and whenever i had breakouts i would fuss over them wishing they would go away, but recently, i started not to care that much. i mean, it could be due to lack of sleep, what you eat, hormones, stress, and stuff, but atp im just like, bestie, i have no time and maybe even money, to worry abt that or fix that. it’ll go away at some point, and it’s definitely normal to have textures and what not.

I always find actors/actresses' and Kpop singers' skin SO perfect like porcelain (in dramas and MV), it is quite reassuring to see that it is far from being perfect all the time ! Of course it is logical, they are human beings, but the make-up and light in dramas and MV make their skin seem soooo perfect, smooth, with no pores or blemishes. Thank you for this video ! I just discovered you with one, and am watching the rest of your videos.

I've always hated my acne. It was genetic from my parents and I was the first girl to hit puberty when I was at a small school where I had 20 others students in my GRADE. It really stood out when youre the only kid in your grade to have acne. I tried everything back then, proactive, dermatologists, medication, and I've been struggling still for almost 15 years. Now that I'm almost 25, I've pretty much accepted that I can only manage my acne and do what I can to prevent it from getting worse (not missing my routine, not touching my face, not eating a lot of sugar, and not hydrating). I'm still struggling with other aspects that I can't control but one day I can overcome it.
