I feel like it can be problematic if celebs lie about those kind of things because more often than not, they always end up doing ads for some random products, claiming they're gorgeous because of it. Diet products, makeup, skincare, teeth whitening, etc. We all know it's not true, and that they're not skinny because of this diet product. They had help from personal trainers, dieteticians, and maybe even surgery to remove the excess skin. But some people might not realize it, and can be easily influenced into spending money, and stressing over trying to look as perfect as their favorite celebrity, without realizing that they can never look this perfect without some extra help. Of course, they can keep their surgery to themselves, but lying about it really isn't that great.

One of the problems lies when celebrities claim their sometimes unrealistic beauty as "natural." They have fans, people who admire them and want to be like them. Setting such high standards, with looks that are only surgically attainable, it's incredibly toxic. Social media is filled with teenagers, and that's a period of time where your mental health is easily affected. Things like this can ingrain that lack of self-confidence, and it seems to be getting progressively worse by the generation. Beauty standards are at the point where you have to put plastic and other chemicals in your body. No matter how beautiful you are, you're always going to be ugly in someone's perspective. But it goes the other way around too, beauty's subjective. Everyone has their own unique set of features, and their own attractive quirks. I don't know how to feel about self-love though, I feel like it's okay for just self-acceptance. I don't love myself, but I'm okay with how I am. I just accept it. Does anyone feel the same way? Thanks for listening to my Ted talk~

@@derkatzenmensch220 that’s not necessarily true. It depends on the procedure, who you go to, and the location. Obviously the celebs are getting top notch surgeons and will be at a significantly higher price point. Most places offer some type of credit option, so it can be paid off in monthly installments, etc., often interest free if paid off within a set time period. I mean yeah overall it’s still quite a decent amount of money for people, but I think most average/middle class people could make it work fine if that was their priority as far as finances go.

Lorry Hills actually did mention about the curvy Kardashian trend.. I too think its a bit extreme to go under the knife to fit a 'trend' and never knew it was a thing until I watched that video. It does make sense tho, body trends do go in and out of fashion. Like the Marilyn Monroe body shifting towards Twiggy as an aesthetic. I guess with plastic surgery becoming more refined and affordable to the masses, some people do treat it as a trend. Wild.

I think nobody owes any info of themselves to someone else, but if someone with such power and fame starts saying they never had plastic surgery when they look like the epitome of unnatural beauty, thats an issue and a COMPLETELY different conversation to be had. I dont think its bad for these plastic surgeons to make analysis videos, just they need to make sure its respectful to the celebrities themselves; as they are human too. Just remember that there isnt such thing as truly being “honest” online, as there is always something hidden offline that nobody is aware of. And that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. We dont need to constantly air out our entire life and living thoughts out to the public, thats what PRIVATE business is-

The reasoning for the lie is that they want others to believe they won the genetic lottery; it's more unattainable that way instead of others pointing out, "oh, you only look that good because you paid for it, you wouldn't 'actually' look like that if you didn't have that kind of money." To be clear, I think that argument is dumb because it shouldn't really matter what looks someone was or was not born with and if they truly want to look a certain way and have the money for it and they aren't hurting someone else (eg getting work done to impersonate someone without consent), then they should feel free to do so. I just don't like it when the lies create an unattainable image standard and people degrade themselves because they don't look like that naturally so therefore they think they are inferior in attractiveness.

@KiaRoane2 жыл бұрын
No they are needed. Bc too many people want the benefits of plastic surgery without “the shame” of actually getting it. They want to still be credited for their “natural beauty” and this is the problem. Thanks to social media and influencers, people half the time don’t even see real faces or bodies. They see people with work done using heavy filters or editing, and then look at themselves, thinking their bodies are wrong. So many people are now suffering with body dysmorphia and they don’t even realize their perception of themselves and other bodies has been distorted. So what plastic surgery analysis channels do is break that vail of false perfection projected by celebrities and influencers, to reveal how people are actually changing their bodies. How they are getting access to the beauty they weren’t born with either. If your career consists of you being famous and directly making money off of people’s collective interest in your appearance, you absolutely OWE those same people you make money from the truth. It’s not just your business. The only reason anyone would be against plastic surgery analysis channels, is bc they want to keep that vail of false perfection up between them and their audience. They want to be able to change their features, without baring the criticism attached to wanting to adhere to a more Eurocentric standard of beauty. People don’t want to be faced with the reality that they don’t like how they looked, and so they changed their appearance. Rather than learning to embrace their natural, often times ethnic signifying phenotype… gaining the personal growth that comes with it. They don’t want to look like they have taken “the short cut”. They also don’t want reconcile with having the privilege to spend large amounts of money on plastic surgery. Bc it’s absolutely a privilege. Overall, the argument here is: I want your compliments and not your questions or criticism.

Plus you would not want people judging your body the way they do celebrities, it's wrong. Try putting yourself in their shoes having to deal with constant people judging them for their benefit. @cloudplum~~ no if their parents did a better job at teaching their children self love and monitoring what they watched, also teaching their kids not to put celebs on pedestals and they are the most important person in their life to take care of these problems wouldn't happen so often. Insecurities come from the people closest to you. I was insecure about my forehead and my pimples because of what people closest to me would say about it. Eventually I had to realize what they were saying was making me feel bad about myself so I stopped talking to and being around them. Yes these are super huge but if my mom wasn't insecure about her forehead too, I'd probably wouldn't have felt that way ever. Edit: I'd meant to say a lot of insecurities come from family. Also you can go to therapy and see where a lot of your problems came from and typically it's not the internet and if it is its because your family pushed you to the internet for guidance and many other things.
@jinx5262 жыл бұрын
@cloudplum~~ I think it would make more since to start with criticism and not support the media industry rather than attempting to analyze and disect individual celebrities. The industry is the source of the pressure for both celebrities and regular people. I think both of you have valid points, especially about colonialism and putting celebrities on pedestals. I think for myself, it's pretty disturbing to subject an individual to plastic surgery speculation publicly. It feeds into the need people have to continue comparing themselves to celebrities and others, albeit more "realistically," but the obsession is still there; it's still somewhat dehumanizing. And I don't see how exposing the celebrities really challenges the beauty standards that depends on the messaging with each video. It's a bit jarring to me because I know fans develop a sense of entitlement towards celebrities and even other normal people's appearance. Overall, it is a rather unfortunate dynamic, but I get dishonest celebrities that need to be held accountable. Idk I think there's probably a more ethical and effective way to go about it. I'm glad it helps some people with their self image but I think collectively we need to move away from the value of beauty especially for women/girls

@@ancalyme True. Saying plastic surgery isn't inherently bad doesn't really mean much when plastic surgery can still do harm to ppl lol. The beauty standards r so unrealistic that EVEN beautiful ppl who most would say fit the standard STILL get plastic surgery. What does this tell the average person when even "beautiful" ppl r not beautiful enough? WHY would anyone want to continuously raise the bar?? Plastic surgery can't create confidence but it can cost u an arm and a leg, botch u, make u sick, kill you or simply leave u unsatisfied w/ the results and even more insecure after. Plastic surgery is more normal today but insecurities and mental health issues r not getting better. I read a Norwegian study that found that participants who had cosmetic surgery were acc MORE likely to have poorer mental health after plastic surgery compared to controls (those that didn't have plastic surgery). Whilst there may be some studies supporting plastic surgery in better self-esteem there is just so many issues like bias and methodological problems in them. Additionally, some did not check the long-term effects which were found to change over time. Also, typically ppl may rate for e.g. their new breasts as being more attractive but this confidence did not transfer to other parts of their body. What this means is that they will likely do MORE plastic surgery because there are now new or existing insecurities that they become fixated on changing. But hey let's normalise something that is not acc helpful in the long run unless for medical conditions/accidents ofc. 😃

True. Also, even the "professional" analyses aren't always right because a lot of the pictures they use are from magazine photoshoots or music videos etc. where the images are already photoshopped. Even fans edit fancams of their idols. These people also judge other people's looks without considering the cultural aspects behind it. One big example is K-pop and Korean beauty standard. I noticed that they would say a kpop artist did surgery when I know they didn't, because they go against Korea's beauty standard. I know how a lot of them had been considered ugly in Korea but beautiful by the rest of the world. They fought for their place in this competitive industry and they deserve the recognition and rewards. One more thing is makeup. I've seen different kinds of makeup from different cultures thanks to watching makeup tutorials. A person's natural features can really look like different depending on what you do. Some crazy ones are the Chinese makeup transformations. That's why I like Lorry Hill. She always puts a disclaimer at the beginning and is always polite in presenting her opinions. I can’t believe Bella hadid really just said the only plastic surgery she has is a nose job. 😒 Does anyone believe that? I’d be so upset if Ariana grande says she doesn’t have plastic surgery next Especially because some people always believe celebrities and it’s harmful to so many peoples’ self esteem. Celebrities should just be honest about their extreme privilege and access to the best beauty enhancing products. This includes: plastic surgery, personal trainer, home gym, nutritionists, high end makeup, luxury fashion, skin care products, hairstylists, manicure/pedicure, weight-loss drugs, high-quality food, makeup artist, high end hair products and etc. Celebrities literally set beauty standards. They play a huge roll in making beauty feel so unattainable for the regular person. Being honest about how they’ve achieved they’re beauty, actually helps a lot of people, particularly feminine people, understand there’s nothing wrong with them. Sure it’s not the most important problem in the world, but overall this would help young girls, and feminine people alike, gain confidence in themselves. And lastly, it could possibly contribute towards less mental health issues, in society in the long run.

It's not so empowering as it is "normalizing". For me, I feel better knowing that these celebs got work done to look the way they look, and yeah, they look great, but it reminds myself that I look completely normal that way I am now. And I have an option to get work done if I want to.

Surgery is not empowering but for too many people's appearance make their lives harder to live, surgery means have a day to day easier to cope with . Not being in the beauty standard doesn't make u are ugly. There is too many people that don't "fit" the "beauty standard" but nobody call them ugly. In other way there is people that have been called like that in too many ways making insecurities or even disorders in them, in those situations plastic surgery a "salvation" a way to have a better and easy life. So I don't think is laughable (too many times is the only or the beat alternative for a better life)

I don’t think it’s empowering. My mom got her boobs done and in the beginning it was a really hard adjustment. It didn’t make her life easier at all. Any one who treats someone worse cause of how they look isn’t someone I’d want in my life. I don’t buy the whole “I’m doing it for myself” thing. If someone was alone in the woods with no internet and didn’t know the current body trends, they would have no reason to hate any of their features. No one’s gonna be like “omg I hope that bird doesn’t think I have a big nose”

the thing is that why do people try to feel better about themselves by seeking reassurance that the celebs have had plastic surgeries? getting a month break from social media is better than going to a plastic surgery analysis every time you feel insecure because no matter what, there's always going be someone better looking than you in your own standards. just chill peeps.. these celebs get paid for looking good and you don't

I don't think anyone should be a beauty standard because we're all unique! Fearfully and wonderfully made so just because those celebs often look "polished" doesn't mean anyone should be the beauty standard.

I think the reason why kpop fans are busy trying to stop people from saying their favorite idol might have had plastic surgery is because a lot of people who are against the kpop industry use the stereotype of idols being fake and created by a company to look a certain way to attack idols. so the nuances of why an idol got something done kind of dissappear. kpop idols aren't discussed in the same way that western celebrities are sadly

Idc about k-pop fans. But when people say BTS got a procedure done on their face it pissess me off cuz it's the same face, same nose, eyes and teeth that they got made fun of, been called names for yeaars!!! until recently. EVEN now you'd see k-pop fans and western artist fans who drag BTS for their looks.!! There's a good reason why BTS fans( armys) hate analysis videos of the boys.

Tbh it makes me feel better about myself knowing that a lot of kpop idols have had plastic surgery done. I still think they’re absolutely gorgeous and don’t think of them any differently, but it does help me not to judge my appearance too harshly
@Sonia-zu3fp2 жыл бұрын
I feel like something people neglect to think about is that often times it's the industry putting pressure on celebrities to maintain their young appearance that causes them to get plastic surgery. It shouldn't be normal for girls as young as 14 to be altering their faces but that's what adults in the industry make them feel they have to do. Even though these analysis videos often have disclaimers saying it's just their opinion. Many viewers take it as factual and despite the disclaimer do use it to send hate to people. I just worry about those celebs who have had surgery at such a young age because they most likely have their own insecurities and could suffer from body dismorpia too and now they have a hoard of people telling them they are only beautiful because of surgery or that they ruined their face.

I personally think they have a responsibility to share a procedure if they’re selling a product based on that feature. (ie tummy slimming product if they’ve had lipo) I love these videos so I know why some people look the way they do (and why I never seem to measure up)

I'm glad content like this seems to help a lot of people with their body image/dysmorphia issues but personally for me it doesnt really tbh, it just reminds me that these celebs can afford to get their flaws "fixed" and I cant and probably never will 😅 born perfect or made perfect doesnt really matter to me when it comes to all that. I mostly just find this stuff really fascinating to watch

Idk I think how alot of celebs (mainly kardashians) lying about surgeries is more harmful than speculating about if they've had surgeries, like so many impressionable young people are effected by these "glow ups" that turn out to be plastic surgery. Esp when they're "beauty influencers" like if Kim can show off her contour that she wants to sell to u why cant she share her surgery which is basically also a cosmetic tool. Idk anyone who has a bad reaction to a celebrity potentially getting plastic surgery just shows their bias against plastic surgery imo. Also fair for Doja getting mad but body shaming Lorry Hill for looking like "jack skellington" was low.

I hate the lack of integrity. So many celebs peddle beauty products, food, exercise products etc. with the implication that they get their looks from said products. No they didn't. The lack of integrity and the complicit consent in being lied to by the majority irks me both. This kinda stuff is more apparent in fitness celebs but the subtle type of egregious disingenuousness by kpop stars and Hollywood stars is just as bad.

i love lorry hill so much. i love how she's showing people that these perfect faces you see aren't natural and that money is why celebs look "perfect." teenagers and even children these days make lists of all the plastic surgery they want done when they're older... this is not okay at all to me. i forget the youtuber, but someone else said something eye opening to me. i used to want my jaw evened out since one side is slightly different than the other. he talked about marzia, who is STUNNING btw, i've always thought of her as such a beautiful person. apparently she only showed one side of her face most of the time because she had the same thing as me, an uneven jaw, and he talked about how non symmetrical faces are actually considered more beautiful and i totally agree now. i wish that people didn't feel the need to get plastic surgery, since i feel our differences are what make us beautiful. big nose, small nose, big eyes, small eyes, it doesn't matter. diversity is beautiful. i myself have had a cosmetic procedure, and i think there is great value in it. a plastic surgeon basically removed 99% of a scar i had from a suicide attempt. literally changed my life, worth all $1000 lol. i also think it's great for ppl who have birth defects that hinder their ability to function well, deformities from accidents, burns, etc. i am all for those procedures, but i wish ppl didn't feel the need to get lip fillers or nose jobs to be pretty. it's sad, how this world will make you think your natural features aren't good enough. ppl rly need to be more kind to each other, insecurity is a killer and no one deserves to feel sad with their natural face. i say f the media and celebrities who promote unrealistic standards and pass them off as natural. it's truly a sick world we live in

"drama goblin" 😂👏💯 Lorry did NOT deserve the treatment she received from Doja. As many have already commented, her intentions are educational and to destigmatise cosmetic surgery and procedures. She always talks about her subjects with the utmost respect. She is so graceful, sadly I can't say the same for Doja. The fact that celebrities still see the need to try "protect" their brands by denying their plastic surgery to sustain this "godly" / "more than human" appeal of perfection to elevate themselves is both a symptom of societal beauty standards and a huge perpetuating force of those very standards, which ultimately they're participating in and profiting off of.

there was a recent issue where fans speculated that 2 idols undid their nose job and im fine with that if it were true - there wasn't any public announcement for it. what makes it bad is that their own fandom was negatively commenting on their looks and even brought it up during a fansign which clearly made the idol uncomfortable

All these comments where people put the pressure of body image on celebrities. I don't get it like seriously I'm not the most beautiful people in the world but I love myself enough to not have to look at celebrities for beauty. The reason because my family instilled that confidence in me so I grew up being confident in my body and my face. I just need to understand why everyone keeps putting this on celebs when it's people that need to change their thinking.
@anaochoa2 жыл бұрын
Not everyone has the fortune to grow up in a family like yours. And as much as I get what you're saying, I think it's difficult to change your perspective on yourself when you're surrounded by a society that constantly tells you to change your body to be socially acceptable and nobody tells you otherwise. Celebrities are just adding to that pressure when they say they are all natural, because that leads to people thinking that something that's so "achievable" for some, it's so unthinkable for them.
@anaochoa2 жыл бұрын
Also, I wanted to add my personal experience. I used to feel like you by myself and my own reflections until I was 14. I got my period so I was supposed to get this new woman body, and I did, but it wasn't what I expected. It feels even worse now that I am 17 because there's this culture of being pretty, especially as a female teenager. I feel forced to be sexy and attractive even if I didn't before. Now that "I am in my golden years", I feel like I am supposed to be peaking by now. This is so much more than a personal problem, it's a societal issue. And well, now society is really built around technology and social media, so it's undeniable the huge role of influencers nowadays.

I'm happy that this kind of videos are made. I understand that celebrities doesn't have to share with us what they'd done. But when they selling products based on their looks that have been altered by plastic surgery it is deceiving (and should be illegal in my opinion). Like booty workout program from a person that has implants/bbl (like Kardashians). Or anti-wrinkle face cream while they had face lift/botox (like Jane Fonda). Also that kind of content help with fighting unrealistic beauty standard that people fall victim to (both celebrities and "common" people).

Doja just proves the point about the stigma surrounding plastic surgery with her disproportionately angry response. Of course we understand why she would want to respond and acknowledge the video, but she could’ve said she takes offense and that it’s not true. We could’ve all lived with that. ALL THAT SAID, the moment Doja went that low and the fact that we have eyeballs, it’s insulting to all of our collective intelligence if she thinks doing a Live while losing her shit suddenly takes away from the fact that homegirl indeed has had work done.

I'm from the very early kpop stan days and we always knew they were getting work done and dieting constantly. Yunho from TVXQ was pretty upfront about his veneers and how painful they are and I believe still are to eat with. Be aware of the problem, look at the industry with heavy criticism and remember your idols are just human beings.

The whole drama with Doja Cat reminds me of when Kylie Jenner tried so hard to deny lips fillers, launching a dangerous trend that way, before acknowledging it. In my opinion, if you are a celebrity, you have to expect people to have opinions about you and talk no? Isn't it the point to stay relevant? Yes, everyone deserves privacy, but the issue is when someone is followed by so many young people who admire her/him to the point of following her/his path; when his/her entire image is her/his brand and her/his make millions of dollars out of it... At least be honest about it, even if it's just parts of it? In the end, perfecting this image IS part of the job. Lorry never shames anyone in her video, never claims that her opinions are fact. It's also always very informative and like a big discussion about the topic of plastic surgery to normalize it a little more. It actually helps a lot of people to talk about it, at least that's how I see it. And to open the discussion a little more, I know in the video it was said that no one is obligated to state his medical record to strangers... But, well... That applies mostly to physically normal people? By that I mean: people with physical deformities, disabilities or who are limited after a particular surgery (ankles blocked for example), will have to disclose part of their medical history to strangers every day to answer questions...

I think the problem with Doja is she wants it both ways. She built a brand on being ‘just like you’ Now she has a load of money and has had a load of work done, she still wants to cling to that brand WHILST having completely unattainable beauty. Celebrities profit off of that gap between us and them. We can never achieve that level of perfection, so we idolise them. Knowledge of surgery shatters that illusion. People were drawn to Doja because she was a break from all that. Now she wants it both ways. She wants to be seen as all natural, yet completely unattainable at the same time. There is something inherently dishonest and manipulative about that. Nobody should HAVE to talk about surgery. However, when you weigh in and DENY surgery, you are a problem. Another example is the recent Bella hadid article. She went so far out of her way to disclose her nose job (to rapturous applause for her bravery) But then went on to staunchly deny getting literally anything else done. There is something particularly dishonest about that. So what miley does - just don’t talk about it. No problem
