I knew him for years before we dated and who he was after we dated (after the love bombing phase ended) was extremely misogynistic and abusive. Everything he posted about as a fake feminist was the opposite of what he said when he dated me, but only to me. Online he continued to pretend to be a feminist. Like the Try Guys drama with the “wife guy” there are “feminist guys” who also pretend to respect women to appear to be good people and to manipulate women into liking them. I saw a post from Hypebae that was titled “New year new me(n)” where guys claim they will be better in 2023. The author of the post was skeptical, as they should be. Guys have been manipulating women for decades. Like unpopular guys pretending to want a relationship to trick women into having sex. It’s just more and more manipulation. Dating for straight women is difficult.

That last part isn't quite true. In a management course I took, we looked at how the female gaze is responsible for things like beauty standards, body image shame, the pressure on women to shave and wear makeup, and things like that. All those pressures that I've felt in my life all came from women who were using them to feel more powerful and attractive, while I found them restrictive and unreasonable. I've also heard of the female gaze being used to objectify men as just being there for physical support, but that isn't as common. It's like we all make each other a commodity, and try to bargain with the system by fitting into ideals that a lot of people just don't care about, or at least not as much as what media would suggest.

idk what female gaze means, but I def know they're using the term male gaze wrong. "male gaze" isn't "ego and bravado". it's used in cinema (and other visual media and can expand to even non-visual media if you want) to describe how women are literally viewed as in the camera focusing or lingering on their boobs, butts, hips, etc.

@ancalyme Жыл бұрын
I always thought of "female gaze" as a technique for filming or writing where it's obvious in some intrinsic way that a woman is holding the camera and not a man trying to imagine what women like. Like, in "male gaze" women are the sex objects, the desired trophies, the mysterious beauties waiting for a partner. In female gaze, men are the sex objects, the desired trophies, the mysterious beauties waiting for a partner. In male gaze, men are strong and capable and active within the story while the women react; they save the damsel, if the damsel saves them they have to save them in return. In female gaze, women are strong and capable and active within the story while the men react; they save the male damsel, and if they are saved then will save the male lead in return.
@ancalyme Жыл бұрын
True Blood and Outlander are usually cited as shows with a strong female gaze
@dean1111 Жыл бұрын
Well I'm actually not sure that in the female gaze, the roles are so directly switched. I don't think that a main component is the woman saving the male damsel in distress, but more that women are seen as actual human beings with complex thoughts and feelings, and things that are usually experienced by women, like girlhood in Coppola or being sexualised in general, are accurately and emotionally portrayed. Also that men are maybe more emotionally in touch and not overly masculine, because women tend to like that more (overgeneralisation, I know), and the man that's supposed to be attractive in more male gaze-y movies is usually overly masculine, bulky, unemotional, as men stereotypically want to be. But I'm not sure either, just wanted to drop that here haha
@bby_drgn Жыл бұрын
this is absolutely not what the female gaze is. the female gaze doesn't objectify. (what makes perfectly sense because it's a feminist film theory) what @dean1111 wrote is more accurate
@ancalyme Жыл бұрын
@@dean1111 It looks switched because I'm simplifying. Take Outlander for example, the female lead goes back in time with medical knowledge that allows her to be very capable and useful to warrior men in pre-industrial Scotland, and she's emotionally and mentally strong from having been a ww2 field medic, but she's not brawling with the guys. The male lead had his own damsel moments where he had to be rescued or saved, and he in turn saves her. In shows from a male gaze (in my understanding of the term), the man saves the woman and that's it; if he is saved, then he must save back. Here the big "saving" moments are from her to him. Female gaze can characterise both male and female characters, I don't like limiting it to just how men vs women describe women because how men vs women describe men is a huge part of the puzzle and makes the discussion more balanced. Female gaze is not inherently better or worse than male gaze, it's just flipped in some key ways for the different audience. And yep I agree that being more sensitive and pretty vs masculine and stoic is part of what makes male characters in female gazey stories so compelling to me.
@Separatechurchnstate743 Жыл бұрын
Yes! People are saying the female gaze like it’s an actual look and not a concept
@bluealtas9976 Жыл бұрын
People don't research terms like female gaze and the male gaze. The male Gaze refers to stuff that directors do that doesn't add anything to the plot and it's inhegerenly sexual just because they see the character like that, for example, look at the differences between Harley Quinn from Birds of prey vs. Suicide squad. While one has sexy shots of Harley dressing implying that she did it in front of a bunch of men, and the camera zooms from her feet all the way to her boobs, while the other doesn't have a sexy shoot just because. In the end, the sexy part, it's not bad, what the term "male gaze" refers to is the frame, camera angle, etc. Pandering to certain demographics.

I feel like the internet misuses the term of Male and Female Gazes quite a lot now. The Female Gaze was a film theory that in layman's terms just wants films that don't sexualize or rely on sex appeal a lot, which is usually tasked on to women in film. The Female Gaze doesn't deny nor is saying we ought to erase sex appeal, but simply advocates for visuals that sees beauty and people in a more holistic way. There's more to it than that and many social and art theories that add on and even criticize the shortcomings of when it came out in the 20th century. These types of tiktok internet users are not qualified to give these "examples" of what even Female Gaze is.

One of my favourite things about the internet is that literally everyone will read one paragraph of some article about something and suddenly be an expert on the subject qualified enough to teach everyone else about it. It is just amazing seeing ppl actually filming themselves, like showing their real life face, while doing this…

Yes, I can confirm that. Whenever I find a person, beautiful or pretty, is 100% all the times the eyes that I'm drawn to.

The biggest example of a good female gaze on tiktok is the guy who sits down with a cup of tea pretending to genuinely listen to you talk about your day.
@GlacierGalx3 Жыл бұрын
To me the female gaze is the humanization of women. A lot of media focuses on the sexual and act of seducing a woman. A good example of the female gaze is the carriage scene in pride and prejudice, where Darcy helps Lizzie into the carriage and then flexes his hand from delight afterwards. It’s caring and loving, helping and treating a woman with respect makes women swoon. The hint of or suggestion of a man being more so “a sweet one” is what I think keeps having girls fan girl over any nerdy/shy guy. When in reality they can be nerdy and shy but absolute assholes in private 😂

I loved that scene!

He has Sanpaku eyes, for sure. I've seen so many videos ab him, and his ugly comments he does ab black women. I just don't like him as a person, and for me is not a example of female gaze.

I don't usually leave comments because I have severe anxiety & I know it's irrational but doing so can often cause a panic attack. Anyway this is for the algorithm. You're awesome, I love your content. You're definitely one of my favorite KZbinrs. Much love 😍🌟💞

Honestly as a pan-rom demisexual, I honestly didn’t get his hype at all and I felt insane. It deadass make me question if I was truly attracted to men/masc people because I could not see what “gaze” made him attractive. Most of all, the misuse of female gaze made me even more confused . I was like, is this a straight person thing??? Was asking my partner what they thought and they were just as confused.

I wouldn’t focus as much energy on what everybody else is feeling and learn to tap in to your own personal preferences, and let that guide you.

Ikr!! Like it happens to me that i analyze and overthink the things i see on social media " well I used to overthink and overanalyze things bc of curiosity or smth..." and i got really confused and felt insane from doing it "especially when I stared focusing on the Korean industry and kpop community cause i loved their songs and wanted to have more knowledge of their culture in their industry" that to the extended i started having headeaches aches... that's why I got out of the community since the mayority was toxic asf than any other one i saw in my whole life 😭. Since then i stopped putting all my energy on anything i see or hear cause is not useful and is mentally draining you know the overthinking and overanalyzing thing idk why i was doing that for many years but now i finally figured out that it wasn't good and that it was toxic for my mental health to do and i stopped for the better. And sorry for the long text maybe this didn't have anything to do with the comment you two made idk 😅, thanks for reading till here❤️

It's not a straight person thing. This guy would be considered (conventionally) ugly or at least creepy pretty much everywhere outside of tiktok. It's not that surprising he has an incel past, because he actually DOES look kinda threatening. The "female gaze" here is more like the hybristophile gaze lmao

Because of my eye shape sometimes people say that I look like I'm judging them or think I'm above them. When I smile this look disappears but my resting face gives them these vibes I guess. Some of my grade school teachers had bad impressions about me because of this but as I got older it doesn't bother me as much. I try to prove I'm kind by acting friendly.

Sanpaku eyes can sometimes point to a chronic health issue. Sanpaku eyes aren’t necessarily permanent. Robert Pattinson used to have prominent sanpaku eyes but he got a little healthier and doesn’t anymore.

He gave me the creeps! I've never heard of him before KZbinrs started doing videos about the female gaze. I watched the original viral clip and it was horrible, why would anyone think that was sexy and confident? I saw other people making similar tictoks, it's all cringe AF

I don't have those 3 white eyes but I have very hooded "sad" eyes, so I always look sad or worried. I don't really care, honestly, I never want to give a flying crap to what beauty fashion dictates today is "beautiful". That fashion changes from year to year, and it's stupid to lose your head over it.
