@@jdoggivjc depending on the version of archer. if its stay night verse archer, its more a counter/equal to gates of babylion(except if gil wouldnt be so arogant in the fight and doesnt throw random shit and uses specific weapons or uses ea directly), but not more broken. staynight archer cant use divine constructs(ea, excalibur, etc) with killing himself most of the time cant even copy them, excalibur, caliburn and avalon are exceptions because he carried the og avalon for a long time. If its nameless aka the extraverse version of archer then UBW is trully broken. the extraverse archer can recreate most divine constructs and use them without damaging himself. he can even spam excalibur there. but all extraverse versions are juiced up like as example karna who can use Vasavi Shakti multiple times and without sacrificing his armor.

Actually Archer has less chances than Shirou to win, because Gil will take him more seriously, while Gil would hold back massively against a mere human. Archer can counter Gate of Babylon better than Berserkerlot but that doesnt mean he is a hard counter and Gil still have ways to get around, like simply destroying the Reality Marble and crippling his ability to stop the mass weapon barrage. at best UBW hard counter al mindless spam barrage not an smartly used one Unlimited Blade Works cost a lot to deploy but once is active makes the cost of tracing weapons null because "they are already there and they can be used faster as a plus" instead of having to use mana to summon each weapon individually, so it works great against Gil weapon spam since tracing so many weapons under normal conditions would drain Archer mana fast

@@masterblaster5186 Well u are right Gil can counter em all but there's a reason why he is in the archer class cause he never ever master any off his weapons thats why he always uses those weapons as projectiles not actually ever doing hand to hand combat as for Heroic spirit emiya every weapon that he successfully projects also gives him the right techniques to wield it Gils weapons are also prototypes not the finished product as archers are the finished weapons copy & as shirou said "There's no rule a copy can't beat the original" The only weapon archer can't copy is EA cause it's an divine weapon that gives Gil the upper hand but to activate that weapon gil actually has to unlock it first with a special key as from the scene in fate zero when he fought rider But he can also unlock it in advance if he takes his opponent seriously ! But also unlocking it in advance will drain is mana !! so if he decides to unlock it he will need to use it as soon as possible!!

Archer's spell is of the same kind as the noble phantasm of Rider of Fate Zero ( technically a spell and the only reason Rider could use it is bc it was a vision shared by his whole army). Spoiler… Yes, it’s true that Archer is Shiro Emiya from the future, but it’s not Shiro from the UBW timeline, nor any of the three Fate/Stay Night timelines. Shiro is from one of the infinite number of timelines that make up this multiverse, most likely one similar to the “Fate” (first) timeline, only certain aspects failed, such as Saber never falling in love with Shiro and Shiro never talking Saber out of pursuing the Holy Grail. Shiro and Saber would go on to win that War, but unlike in the “Fate” timeline, Shiro was left unfulfilled, which would ultimately lead him down the dark path mentioned in this episode that would eventually make him become the heroic spirit we know as EMIYA. Archer knows this version of Shiro isn’t actually him, but he doesn’t care - all versions of Shiro are now his enemy.

@@keithwallace5277 as for why Rin summoned Archer, spoiler… It has to do with the heart-shaped pendants. In basically all Fate/Stay Night timelines Shiro is attacked by Lancer and left for dead, only to be saved by Rin with the power stored in her heart-shaped pendant. She leaves it behind with Shiro because it has expended its power, being useless to her. Now, it should be common knowledge that mages will usually try to use artifacts to summon specific heroes (for instance, Kiritsugu used Avalon in Fate/Zero to specifically summon Artoria). In Rin’s case, however, the summoning reacted to the pendant that Archer possessed, and as a result EMIYA was summoned by Rin, as if the pendant was trying to reunite with its previous owner. This is why Shiro was shocked in a previous episode when he found that Rin possessed the exact same pendant that she had left with him - because Archer returned the pendant to her.
