Dyfrig james these are an absolute must purchase, the amount of 3 lever locks I come across is unreal! Had another one today that i opened in less than a minute, think key number 3 got it 👍🏻 same price whether it’s this or a 3G110 , end of the day it’s still non destructive entry into a mortice lock 👍🏻

I got some awhile ago when I started gathering a few of the basics, it’s definitely been a good investment. I had to recalibrate the fortress decoder today, think it was a lil off when I had it but as you suggested previously with the levers and making sure it’s under that particular 1 it’s now spot on 👍 hoping to order another decoder at the end of the week. Any suggestions for the next decoder buddy?
@FortressLocksmiths
@FortressLocksmiths 4 жыл бұрын
Dyfrig james yeah it’s a bit fiddly to calibrate , that’s why I always keep a Fortress in the van if I’m having difficulty 👍🏻 and I’d probably say the Union/Chubb/Yale decoder next , the Union 2134(E)s are everywhere, easy plastercine kit to use , in fact I’ll put a video up this week of it in action 👍🏻

Never seen the key upside down technique before. I've found these try out keys have opened five lever locks too.... whenever I got to a job I always tried the sets regardless of 3 or 5....chancing obviously but I found they managed to open five levers more than once....never ever got excited at the prospect of drilling out a mortise🙈 Excellent content buddy..

To be honest mate the upside down method is the way it shows you in the instructions, cause you are kind of over lifting and then tensioning at the same time if that makes sense

Your right the price is the same, bit of a catch 22 sometimes when you open a lock in minutes Customers can be reluctant to hand over the cash, guess I should make it look harder than it is sometimes. I have loads of try out keys but prefer 2 in one picks

My 3 lever try outs will not fit inside the crap 3 lever locks by ERA etc they are too wide. Yours seem to be off centred if that makes sense ? The blades seem to be shorter on one side. Have you modded them to fit? And if so will they still work in Union 3 Lever locks?

Try the 2 lever try out keys as bud, but for the sake of the price of a set buy 2 and grind one set down slightly …works a charm 🤝🏻

@@FortressLocksmiths I'm trying to create a key for an old unusual mortice. What's the best way to take an impression of the inside? Hold it in the open position and press Blue tac wrapped in cling film? Will that give me the right shape to copy? Filing a blank Is there anywhere I can get plastic 'rim lock' key? Maybe then I can file it easily if I have to do trial and error. I can almost see the shape the key grooves needs to be from looking at it while I hope it open. Is ''rim lock" key the correct name, basically I need a blank of the FB2 key but not sure if FB2 keys are rim lock keys or what the correct name is. Last question, do 3 lever locks have 4 sheets inside and 5 lever have 6 sheets? I'm trying to understand why they're named like that. I googled what lever are FB 2 locks, it said 3 lever but the key have 3 positive (raised) and 2 negative. So it's left me confused

@@FortressLocksmiths You are 100% right, did NOT think of it that way. I know that in the land of the rising sun, or that part of the world, they knock out some things at stupidly low prices. But still NOT been able to fiend any 5 leaver tryout keys from that part of the world. Just a bit off topic, you use good old trusty WD40 oil. Have you ever tried “TRI FLOW oil” I know that it is expensive, but the results are FANTASTIC. If you have NOT come across this oil before, I would RECOMMEND that you look into it specs.

I wouldn’t say everything, first they would have to purchase the correct tools for the correct locks, then learn how to use them, and then learn how to ID specific locks through a keyhole , by which point they may as well become a locksmith
