This week’s film breakdown analyzes The Cincinnati Bengals Quarterback Joe Burrow and why he keeps. getting. hit. Through his first 30 games Burrow is the 2nd most sacked quarterback of all time with 96, and once again this season he leads the league in sacks taken. The Bengals have issues with their offensive line, their scheme, and surprisingly with Burrow taking too many hits himself. What can they do to fix this? This week’s episode uses the all-22 coaches film to analyze Cincinnati Bengals Quarterback Joe Burrow.

Videos like this make you realize really just how great, the Brady’s, Mannings, and Brees’s are. Yeah. I dunno if Zac Taylor was mentioned in the video (though I only saw the blocking scheme I think) but it doesn't help Burrow/O-line constantly leaving them on an island vs teams with good pressure fronts. Also doesn't help as a wide zone guy, he doesn't have a reliable way to go from the run game to the pass game. So far even Mixon isn't doing too well.

Alex showed Jets footage and the fact Burrow still got pressured was EGREGIOUS. Jets don't got anybody in their front 4 to be amazing for pressures and yet he was still letting go of the ball because he had big linemen in front of him. Same story with the Fins whom despite their success in recent weeks, that defense don't really pressure for shit either. So when Burrow is actually given time, he can get it to his playmakers just like always. Still gotta look out for matchups like the Steelers (when they get Watt back), Cowboys and other teams who can get at the QB at a high level.

He does. But in some cases its part of his instinct to try extend the play if he can. Taylor's play calling and the O-line just doesn't give him enough time in the pocket to get the ball out quick enough. Meanwhile we go over to the Jaguars who don't have the best receivers nor the best O-line but Doug P is drawing up plays to get Trevor Lawrence to release the ball the 3rd quickest in the league! So play calling and schemes go a long way to create consistency for a QB to make efficient decisions.

It's gonna be really upsetting if Herbert or Burrow get sacked or hurt too much and end up like Andrew Luck. Their teams have to protect them.

Herbert’s O Line is actually really solid with Rashawn Slater Corey Linsley and Zion Johnson it’s just that 2/3 of them are injured right now

@@chrisroberts8625 the chargers definitely made their line better. that rookie played really well against Chris Jones. I'm more so thinking of letting him back into the chiefs game. It's not a big deal if they lose a regular season game. But they gotta prioritize Herbert's health in a situation like that.

Not disagreeing with video. But when I watch Bengals I see a lot of 5 man protections with little or no run game. You combine that with a lot of down field passing it becomes a lot easier to rush the passer. I think a lot of blame falls on O staff. I watched the joker Grigson and Pagano do this with Luck for 5 years and he retired. I dont blame him. I hope Joey get soem help or goes soewhere where he can.
@billyhill7630

You can slow the rush without involving the o line. Screens are the old school way of doing it. A middle screen would be perfect for the Bengals. I would say draw plays as well but since they always run out of shotgun that gets eliminated. A consistent run game would help also but they seem to be unable to call more than one kind of running play. Mixon would be a beast with a fullback but only a few teams do that anymore.

Joe has more edge and love for the game than Andrew Luck so I dont see him retiring early by choice but he may not have a choice if he gets hurt holding the ball too long and passing behind a trash line.

O-line just need to work on their gaps and spacing, and they'll slowly learn how each of them plays and make adjustments. If they get a new O-line coach, they should be good. There is always a painful adjustment phase like WIlson with the Broncos. On paper this should be a very solid O-line as well.

please do a video on the Seahawks defense, their offense is killing it, but their defense is struggling horribly. your videos include end zone angles that the average fan like me doesn't get to see during the broadcast so its tough to see what the defense is actually doing.

how do you think pass rush win rate of each team they've faced factors into the specific performances? it's almost sort of funny, cowboys and dolphins ranked 1 and 2 respectively in prwr, but the jets n steelers rank #22 and #26. if they can get a win versus miami at #2 but can't get a win against Pittsburgh at #26 then it feels like they're in they're own heads

Although the Bengals are in the NFL, their organization isn't much of the likes as the Rams or the Raiders. I've lived in cincy and been to a few games and the vibe around town is never to expect anything from them. Their superbowl run was crazy, but a shot in the dark for them to ever get there again. The team behind the team literally do not care about success or if they ever make something out of a season. If anything.. their super bowl run hinders them moving forward as the franchise can fall back on that excuse to never upgrade or pay anyone anything they're worth.

The Bengals have decided offensive line is not important when in reality offensive line is the second-most important position behind QB. Burrow’s career will be shortened because of it.

Do people not realize that this is the way Joe plays. I don’t think ive once seen Joe throw the ball away. He never quits on a play and always wants big gains. Him extending plays leads to big plays but it also leads to him being sacked

What this video doesn’t show is how terrible this offense is at running the ball. They consistently run into bad numbers (like running to the weak side of the formation where there are less blockers and an extra free defender) and Joe Mixon being hit immediately at the line of scrimmage and not being able to break any tackles

Curious if this was made before the Dolphins game (looks like it due to lack of footage) and if you see any improvement from that game. The stats certainly look promising. But is that due to better play from the Bengals or poor play from the Dolphins?

Well I see the same mistake as they made in the super bowl… GIVE JOE MIXON THE DAMN BALL AND KEEP PERINE OFF THE FIELD!!! ESP IN SHORT YARDAGE!!! 3rd and 1 in super bowl and they tried to get cute and couldn’t convert two pass attempts on a 3rd and 1. They don’t have a Play Action passing attack either. They need to open games by setting up the pass with the run, esp to help the o line
Aaron Rodgers doesn’t throw over the middle.
