His face and cry are cute and his final evolution is a continent turtle with a mighty roar. Love that guy! Also about Reuniclus: oddly, before I played a Pokémon randomizer where he was my starter, I never realized how much I actually like his design. It's cool and adorable to me, a combination I rarely encounter.

i loved this video, it was so interesting to hear you talk about pokemon! i'm always so fascinated by people's opinions on pokemon designs especially, since i don't know that much about pokemon from gameplay or stats perspectives, but anyone (myself included) can have an opinion on how the design looks! i'm also interested in the lore or stories behind some of the pokemon as given in the pokedex. based on those things, my favourite pokemon are Ditto and Mimikyu! i guess i'm just a sucker for a pokemon that wants to be another pokemon

Smeargle has bad stats, but it has rocked the competitive scene in the past because of Sketch and its ability Moody, which randomly raises 2 stats every turn if I remember correctly. Also, I may put Tyranitar above Donphan, considering how dominant it’s been in competitive. The only bad thing about it is its typing, and it’s so good that it can just ignore it. I’d also say it’s design is pretty cool. People say it’s Godzilla but a lot of early Pokemon get their designs from Kaiju from the show Kamen Rider I believe. And Tyranitar is based of of one from that show.

​@EpicRandomness555 Tyranitar hard carries gen 2 in conpetitve pokemon. Outside of legendaries and Scizor every other mon in this generation needed evolutions or is carried by limited viable pokemon. Umbreon and Smergel are support mons that are supported by legendaries existing. Murkrow was the only tailwind prankster mon.

As someone who played the Complete Emerald Rom Hack to allow me to catch and evolve Clamperl in the Granite Cave before the 2nd gym and evolve it with Happiness instead of trading into a Gorebyss, I still think it's a bit lackluster. It has poor type coverage with just Surf, Ice Beam, and Psychic. Since it's Gen 3 Shadow Ball while teachable uses the inferior Physical Stat. Training up the Clamperl is a pain too since it is a physical wall and doesn't have the best attacking stats. Also Swift Swim is the only ability it has that is any good and that necessitates being on a Rain Team, otherwise it's just so slow! Even looking forward into future games the only other times it is available in better places for a main story playthrough are Kalos where its catchable right before the 4th gym (although its the Grass Type gym so...) then in Ultra Sun and Moon only it is available on the 2nd island... after the Fire Trial and before the Grass Trial. It's honestly just a hassle and a disappointment.

I'll mention for best bug mons, I'll put illumise in there. i know it's insane to say but i use her as my bug team and she does well as long you have her hidden ability (Prankster) with moves such as Rain dance, encore, bug buzz, and Tailwind. She's set up mon and also allows other team members to switch in when being hit (gave her eject button) and also does damage when needed. I legit never knew she was good mon, only when i started doing competitive play with other players did that did i see her have potential to shine if done right.

My “least favorite” Pokemon are the Jumpluff line and it’s really only because I kinda just don’t care. I don’t have any dislike for them really.

I think I’ll share my picks for best/worst of each gen: -Kanto best: Lapras (just a universally likable design and always good to use) Worst: Yeah Onix -Johto best: Scizor (again a pretty hard Pokemon to find anything wrong with aside from trade evo) Worst: Unown (Unusable and the lore it has mostly just amounts to being cryptic) -Hoenn best: Yeah have to agree with Flygon Worst: Luvdisc (worthless now that it lost its only gimmick of farming heart scales) -Sinnoh best: I’m not as huge on this one as everyone else (even though I’m a furry), but probably Lucario, it’s just really good Worst: Mothim (another Bug/Flying type that doesn’t do much to stand out aside from its gender gimmick) -Gen 5 best: Chandelure (unique typing for its time and proof that inanimate objects are a perfectly valid basis for a Pokemon design) worst: Cryogonal (dex filler, not a noteworthy design and though I don’t usually agree with this criticism, this one doesn’t feel like a Pokemon) I’ll give my 3D era takes when you cover them. I actually think the 3D era games have been pretty quality over quanity when it comes to new Pokémon so it should be interesting.

I see where you are coming from with Torterra, but it does go against the purpose by using a move that Torterra got in a later generation that it can't use in a sinnoh based game. The bias on Miltank getting ruined by 3D is funny, though a more realistic reason for it to be bad is that its really hard to find. Dunsparce can be hard to find in gen 2, but HGSS has it fairly easy to find as soon as you get rock smash. Miltank is good but hard to find, and I do appreciate not going for the low hanging fruit like Ledian, Ariados, and Sunflora. Smeargle was a war criminal in vgc that caused Dark Void to be nerfed, though that's mostly outside of the 2d and johto based games. Xatu could also be a contender for the worst in my opinion, since you have to go out of your way and backtrack to get it (like smeargle) and it's not the best

donphan is a weird choice for best. especially when you have Scizor, Heracross AND Tyranitar in gen 2. all of whom have actual use, donphan kinda doesn't. its not tanky enough to make up for its lack of speed or movepool.

Onix really is one of the biggest disappointments of the entire gen 1 dex. Horrible HP, Horrible Attack, Horrible special, Ok speed at best. It's High defense stat barely matters when it doesn't have enough HP to back it up. It was designed in a way to make it intimidating for the first gym, but once you actually look at the stats you realize that it fails at being a boss fight because the three starter types are special and ignore that high defense stat. For gen 2 I'd also like to argue Miltank for best pokemon. Miltank is a very tanky hard to break pokemon that can sit on the field and help break down threats. It also has access to self healing via Milk drink. Milk drink is also useful for outside of battle because prior to gen 7 it was usable to heal your other party members for 25% of Milktank's max HP. It'd save you a bunch of potions by using them on Miltank while healing the rest of your party with Milk Drink. Good in battle, with good usage outside of battle. But the 3D jiggle physics do already make a pokemon that not a lot of people like look even worse.

Pokemon from a game dev analysis standpoint somewhat just sucks because what pokemon does is balances based on these factors: stats, moves, versatility. What happens is any amount the pokemon leans in one direction it's takes away from the other two. So you have pokemon who are super good and facnating in one senario but are terrible in others or pokemon who have good stats or good move but not both.

How is the worst Pokémon in gen 5 not the one that's literal trash? Though it is pretty maddening that Alomomola isn't a Luvdisc evolution. I also really can't stand Conkeldurrr. It is the defensive starter in gen 1, and also the easily replaceable water type defensive starters in general do not do well as the designers can not go all in on their builds because they need to be viable for the entire game. Venasaur is a control style mon. Various status effect moves avalible, that benefits from the need to be viable through out the game starter rule meaning it had some decent attack options. Charizard is the rare type and offensive option. You honestly can not find another fire type option in game until Celedon (commonly 4th badge). It is also arguably the best fire type in the region until you hit Moltres in Victory road. Now fire is not the best type for the campaign because all of fire's weaknesses are gym leaders, rock, ground and water types are common mons on random trainers teams but it's high damage output (in gen 1) and status as hard mode difficulty really stuck with trainers. It is also a reptilian pokemon that has stereotypical dragon characteristics which commonly markets well with males.
