Audio Engineer here 👋🏻 old microphone catches a lot more room reverberations likely due to proximity of microphone to your mouth. More room sound is usually percieved as more natural, but there is a trade off with intelligibility of the recording. In the new microphone there is a lot of emphasis on 500 hz, which is the frequency that will make a voice sound “boxy”. You can correct this by attenuating that frequency by a few dB with an equalizer. I would also boost the high end of the new microphone by a few dB around 4K and higher to give your voice that bite that the other microphone had. The pop filter over the microphone likely has little effect on the tonality. It also sounds like there’s some compression that kicks in when you speak. That would be responsible for the noise that sounds like it takes a breath every time you stop talking. If you’re able to, make the release time of the compressor longer. Overall, I think the new microphone would sound much better than your old microphone if you can make those tweaks.

I’m very light skinned and blonde, so I’m attempting to block the sun at all costs. I would highly recommend, and I tell everyone about it who is also at my level of concern and is looking for extra protection.

@@aim1519 I can’t say for certain, but because the heart palpitations started with use of the supplement and stopped when I discontinued use, I thought that was fairly demonstrative of some cause and effect. Of course, it could have also been coincidental. But the Heliocare is available without the nicotinamide added (just “Fernblock” alone). I haven’t tried it though. It’s just good to be aware of what one’s own individual sensitivities are.

The older microphone sounded like you were talking to us in the same room, which sounded more clear and better in my opinion. This new mic sounds like I am listening to you from the radio or podcast. I have not taken any polypodium. In traditional chinese medicine (TCM) herbal practice, polypodium is known as Gu Sui Bu. In clinic, Gu Sui Bu is often combined with other chinese herbs to make decoctions/teas/topical medications, to help treat patients with bone-ligament injuries, diminished hearing, hair loss. I will try to link references/studies regarding this herb for these treatments. Thanks Dr Dray for linking the references, I will read.

Yeah HQ will do that. I tried to get rid of a sunspot for about 15 years. it was really large I got it in my 20s about 1cm x 1cm. Tried so many products. Even tretinoin wasn't doing much but I wasn't using enough so I started spot treating the spot with tret. I'd put enough on to leave a visible white layer on the spot and let it soak in. That was helping a bit. I added in 2% OTC HQ, also using enough to leave a visible white layer/blob a few hours after my tret spot sank in, gone in under a week. Not even kidding.

For him to wear sun protective clothing. Give him a physical spf maybe! That one stays put for longer, in my opinion. But he has to make that a habit.. otherwise there is no marketing or magical thing that can convince someone to care for themselves. My husband is also stubborn for that.

Try buying him sun protective long sleeves shirts and pants, and a sun protective hat, at least most of his body will be protected

Avid gardener and former yard work and heavy machinery operator here. Apply as much sunscreen as you are conveniently able, using sprays versus the gels is easier for reapplication. The mini travel size mineral sunscreens went around my eyes whenever I reapplied spf lip balm. I kept/keep them in my work trousers and apron so I don't forget. Try getting him to wear a hat and spf cap (the ones like the swimmers or chefs use but with upf). Add Rit Gaurd upf 30 to your clothes and get gloves whenever you can, as well as sunscreen. Spray cans look "manlier" (not a dude, just a person whose spent a lot of time around guys). My final recommendation is getting a upf running buff. It makes you look like a cross between gangster,1920s film starlet, and or a special forces operative but those things work. I would bring more than one (tip: throw extras in your lunch box to chill if you bring it with you to your worksite) and replace as you sweat throughout the day. It's nice to have something chilled when you change out of a sweaty one.

A lot of people object to sunscreen because it leaves the skin tacky. This is particularly annoying if you're working in an environment where there's a lot of particulate matter floating around or gardening because this stuff gets stuck to your skin! My habit is to cover up as much as possible, wear a hat, sunglasses and use Banana Boat's "light as air" sunscreen. This sunscreen is chemical, has a mild lemony scent when you first apply it, but has no tacky feel. I've only been able to find it on Amazon. Good luck and good health! 🌱

Wow! I’ve been taking Heliocare for 15 years. It was recommended to me by a dermatologist in Miami. I’m always surprised by how unknown it is in the general population. Glad to see you recommending it.

As an older person, I was diagnosed with severe Vitamin D deficiency and put on a prescription strength supplement. At about that same time Covid hit and I heard that Zinc would help your immune system so I started taking that, too. Over time, I noticed that my severe age spots were lightening and I googled them and sure 'nuf, they both are effective for battling age spots. Thanx for this. I will try it, too.

I think both mics had their pros and cons but honestly both work well. Content is paramount :) If you want the most well rounded sound, use a combination of a lav mic and an overhead boom mic.

Hi Dr. Dray -- video idea here. Can you make a whole PM skin care routine that mostly includes equate beauty or all generic brand skin care stuff only as a routine? Consisting of cleanser, moisturizer and anything else you may find useful as a generic? Thank you!!!

I have PLME and I'm so glad you're mentioning it! I haven't tried polypodium leucomos yet. There has been a study on topical application of alphaglucosyrutin and vitamin e in people with PLME so I'm trying this now. It's definitely not a miracle but it seems to be helping a little bit (in combination with spf 50 and hats ofc - i get it on my face so ye...). It would be amazing to hear you break down those two ingredients too as I haven't heard any derm talk about it yet.
