I’ve had this RTR for 3 years now, great truck. Since cov19 it’s been going though a major transformation. Xtra Speed body, sound unit, shocks, bumpers, scale accessories, upgraded servo with more items on order. There only been 2 fails on this truck, the steering servo and horn.

I responded to another video of yours about the Axial Honcho last night and you responded favorably about that rig but you also mentioned this truck in your response. Up to now, other than a wall full of Tamiya Kits I've recently collected from when I were younger, plus a few others, my collection is 100% Traxxas. I have a few of their crawler/trail trucks and the XMaxx which is insanely fun to drive but I feel as though I'm missing out by sticking to only one brand. So, this morning my son and I purchased the Honcho and the Wrangler! We'll fight it out when they arrive about ownership... Thanks for your response and fantastic videos!

That is amazing Ryan! There's such a great aftermarket for the Axial line of trucks, that literally the only thing stopping you is your imagination. Tamiya has a big place in my heart, and what originally fuelled my love of this hobby at the beginning. There's still nothing quite like building a Tamiya kit. Thank you for the feedback, and the kind words! Check out our forum for more inspiration for your new trucks!

@NovaCaddoWolf6 жыл бұрын
I have heard people complain about rc companies making jeeps or defenders, first off I love jeeps and land rover defenders so I hope they don't stop making them because people complain. These two are probably the most popular models because of the sad fact is that there are not many modern SUVs that have the solid axle design that is made for off road use, most SUVs today are low clearance soccer mom grocery getters because people today are wimps who want comfort rather than an SUV that can do something, so the market is limited on off road vehicles unless you buy a pickup truck or a real SUV from the 70's or 80's like a K5 or a Bronco, thats why most companies are making RC jeeps.

I have been wanting to get in the hobby for some time now, growing up I had some very cheep Walmart scrap (lol) and now as an adult I would like to get something worth wile with some upgrade potential and something that will last with maintenance and some care. I have been looking at the scx10 videos for a couple weeks now and am really leaning in the direction of this rtr but I know really nothing as to what batteries to buy seeing that most trucks don't include them or the charger and would like to know what you would suggest for this truck for price, performance and longest run time and other than batteries and the charger what else do I need or do you strongly suggest I get to enjoy this hobby? thank you.
@scalebuildersguild6 жыл бұрын
Battery and charger are very subjective, but start with a 2S or 3S lipo with a 35C discharge and a minimum mAh around 3500. Find yourself a balancing charger and you're good to go.
@ArielsSmartyPants7 жыл бұрын
I don't care if it's a Jeep or not, it's a huge square box with no interior, no floor pan, no inner fenders though it's better than the last rtr it just doesn't cut it for me when compared to the trx4. Thanks for the nice review :)
@dwaynebaker87337 жыл бұрын
ArielsSmartyPants Yeah, trx-4 with stickered Windows, yeah good job traxxas, and all those stupid other gimmicks nobody ever uses on the trail, AXIAL have been doing this for yrs, and your comparing traxxas too them, really? AXIAL are far superior in every way🖕
@ArielsSmartyPants7 жыл бұрын
Love Axial products, always have, but it's really a let down to see them outclassed this way. Those gimmicks, you mean like the remote actuated diff lockers and two speed transmission, or the portal axles, oh you mean the ones Holmes from Holmes hobbies is endorsing as cool, yeah they suck right? Sorry man, but Traxxas has upped the ante, time for the rest to meet the challenge.
@dwaynebaker87337 жыл бұрын
ArielsSmartyPants AXIAL doesn't need all those gimmicks, and Johnny Holmes likes it more as a basher, not trail, and nowhere near a competition rig, look at how many axial products he owns, and tell me who he sticks by? Traxxas is no more than a toy looking company, I'll admit, portals are cool, 2 speed tranny, locking diffs, but way too many things too go wrong, already there servos are going out, plus overheating motor, because of no ventilation for the body, lol yeah good job right? I'd rather have a proven platform that's as tough as nails than have something with a bunch of gimicky options that are gonna fail, as a fun truck maybe, but it's now where near the quality of AXIAL products, sorry but traxxas have a long long way to go yet.
@ArielsSmartyPants7 жыл бұрын
A lot of people disagree, and the popularity of aftermarket 2 speed, which axial sells themselves says otherwise. Oh yeah, if you get their's you have to figure out how to install it, setup a servo, and have it aligned and adjusted with your remote, all of which is included in the trx4. I agree Axial products are tough, and yes Mr Holmes would own a lot of them considering this is the first Traxxas trail/crawler and trail and crawler motors are his business. As far as competition is concerned, RTR are not the usual thing you see in competition are they. Servos get changed out, wheels and tires, even motors and ESC. So no you can't say this truck is more competition oriented than the trx4. They're both trail trucks. I for one want the extras included at no extra cost. I'm no fan boy of any company, frankly I'd get the HPI crawler over this as well. Axial could have easily included floor pans into the rock slider mounts, the body already has fender flares which bolt on from the inside which could easily have had inner fenders built into them, but they didn't. This body, while more detailed than their last rtr is just a plain plastic box.
@scalebuildersguild7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I think all current trucks have plusses and minuses. Just because you don't like what's on top shouldn't discount it entirely. For the record, the TRX is more boxy than the latest Jeep from Axial. ;)
@terrybaynard92596 жыл бұрын
Quick question. How is this better than the kit scx 10 2 cherokee?
@scalebuildersguild6 жыл бұрын
It's not in my opinion. Nothing beats the kit version. Allow you to pick and choose your own electronics, great new transmission, among other upgrades that RTR's typically leave out. It's probably Axial's best RTR though!
@baltod49782 жыл бұрын
What are your thoughts on this vs the TRX4? You didn't seem to care for the TRX4 as much in your older review.
@scalebuildersguild2 жыл бұрын
I don't like the overcomplicated locking and unlocking. I much prefer the simpler TRX4 Sport. This JK isn't available any longer, so that might influence your decision.

Could you put the marlin crawler next too this one, i wanna see a size comparison, if you could do that, it would be much appreciated 👍🏻
@scalebuildersguild7 жыл бұрын
Um, not easily without creating another video comparing them, and to be honest, they are so different in terms of performance, it's not really a fair comparo. In terms of size, the Axial Jeep is definitely wider and longer and taller.
@dwaynebaker87337 жыл бұрын
Scale Builder's Guild so is the new axial jeep the better choice as a trail truck?
@scalebuildersguild7 жыл бұрын
Dwayne Baker If you’re looking for a truck that will perform better in extreme terrain, the Axial truck is tough to beat, but the RC4WD truck will offer a more realistic driving experience. You’ll have great fun with both.

Tires are not that great and the shocks are not stiff enough. It will roll or flip under even light acceleration on a incline because of the shocks. Weights might help or thicker shock oil, but I would just replace them. There is a fine line between good articulation and too soft of a shock. In my opinion they got it wrong, a little less articulation over constant roll overs would of been better

Awesome review and unboxing I’m super excited for this jeep to come out to me Axial is the best when it comes to scale and crawling rigs but that is my personal opinion. Hopefully you can get a running video up soon and would you prefer the Scx10 ii kit or this new RTR? Thanks again for sharing
@scalebuildersguild7 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much! Running video coming soon. I'll always take the kit over RTR. I've got my own electronics preferences and I like to build to suit my tastes. That said, if you've never owned one, or want to get a second, it's a great RTR.

This scx10ii is the best crawler I have and next is my trx4 but the Everest 10 doesn't hold a candle to this rig lmao nice try.
