Gotta love how Classic Sonic games Bad Endings are just: "Well, Eggman escaped, and he haves some of the Emeralds. But this isn't over yet." Meanwhile Knuckles' Chaotix is casually *"Everyone is dead and there's nothing you can do."* Also shoutout to Sonic CD, 3D Blast and Mania Bad Endings where aren't that graphic but are very subtle to the idea of "We're fucked and IT'S YOUR FAULT."

What I love about Persona bad endings is how well they go against the themes of the games Persona 3- Goes against accepting death as a natural thing and something you can fight to prevent happening sooner, living life to the fullest. The bad ending is caused by choosing to live in ignorant bliss Persona 4 Golden- Goes against finding the truth and being yourself. By protecting Adachi, you've willingly chosen to keep the case unsolved, and now you're Adachi's puppet who can be used for anything he wants Persona 5- Goes against freedom and rebelling corruption. You willingly allow the masses to live as slaves and a corrupt God to continue to take control of the events in the world And all of these bad endings are betrayals to your parties. They trusted you to do the right thing after everything you've all been through, and with just one action you betray everything you've stood for. What's even more devasting is that they don't even know it. SEES forget everything, the Investigation Team believe the case is resolved, and the Phantom Thieves believe the big evil has been defeated

Honestly, I think that Conker's idea of a bad ending, the game over screen, I mean, should be used more. I honestly would LOVE to see the fate of the character after they lost, especially like something in Fire Emblem, or any Squeenix RPG. It gives a sense of "no, this character is actually gone, you messed up." and I love that.

The one bad ending that has stuck to me the most is one of the bad endings of the PSP remake of Corpse Party. I do not remember how you trigger this specific one as there are a lot of bad endings in this game and I played the game over 10 years ago, but I remember it happens in the last chapter of the game. The whole group gets divided, with one part returning to reality, and the other staying at the cursed version of their school. Normally, the one group that is in "normal" school decides to return to the cursed school to help their friends come back, but if you do something wrong at the first part of the last chapter, only one of the students that is in the "normal school" decides to return, while the other stays behind, which means you are going towards the bad ending I am talking about, without any opportunity to back down. I will not go into details, both because I do not remember everything and because it would be kinda long, but what makes this ending so special is that you basically get to play the game for another hour or so, making you believe you are going the right way, and even the music makes you feel like that, as it is uplifting and hope filling, but after a while you will notice that everything will start going south, with the music slowly changing into something dreadful, ultimately leading you to a point where everyone basically slowly dies or succumbs to a darkened state where they become a hollow body without emotions. Compared to most "bad endings" where you see a cutscene and be done with it, this one is basically a whole playable chapter that inevitably leads you to a bad ending. While many may believe that they have "wasted" an hour or so of gameplay if they get this ending, it is actually a saddening but somehow enjoyable hour that shows you so many things you would never see in the good ending.

I am very knowledgeable on the game's Wrong Ends so I'll see if I can give a detailed summary. The ending happens after Ayumi and Yoshiki returned the spirits' tongues, making them peaceful. One of the spirits uses the power she has to return the two to the real world, but she can't bring the others. The decision that puts you on the path is by having Yoshiki refuse to return to Heavenly Host. Ayumi will go back without him. Yoshiki does change his mind afterwards and goes in after her, but they end up separated because of the timing difference. I'm quite sure this decision locks in the Yuka death that can occur if she is caught by Kizami during that chase sequence. It's kind of odd there isn't two variations to account for if Yuka is alive or not, but I guess the ending doesn't really work with Yuka alive. The ending mostly continues down the same route as the true ending, but Ayumi becomes a bit of a Yandere who only wants to save Satoshi. She even burns Naomi's paper slip at one point, which is necessary for each person to have one to return to the real world. For the deaths part of the ending, Yuka is killed after being caught by Kizami, then Satoshi sees a photo of her body before eventually seeing the body for himself which causes him to be lost to Darkening, but he gives his paper scrap to Naomi to replace the one Ayumi burnt. Yoshiki is gone through Darkening as well from wandering the school alone in search of Ayumi and is already gone when she eventually finds him. After all that Ayumi and Naomi meet up (I forgot to mention before that they were split into two groups by gaps in the flor that split the school in half) and Ayumi sees the paper doll scrap given to Naomi. Ayumi has pretty much gone insane by this point and murders Naomi. But with Naomi dead, Ayumi is left completely by herself which she realises after finding Satoshi. With no one to do the ritual with, she can't return home. The ending closes on Naomi's corpse with a knowing smile on her face before the Wrong End screen plays. This ending is a really fun one and even has a very eerie piece of music called "Ayumi's Insanity" during the final section of the ending. It is also contains the only time in the entire game that Yoshiki confesses his feelings for Ayumi! It happens when he tries to convince her not to go back.

One of my favorite endings in a video game is from Star Wars Republic Commando spoiler ahead for the games ending So throughout the game you start to truly feel like a leader of a team, you get to like them, it feels like your a group of friends. The ending requires you to split up, to abandon your team, but its what must be done for victory. But as soon as the mission is over you must escape, one of your friends is ambushed, you want to help him. But the area is to dangerous, the leader forces you to evacuate the area without your friend, leaving him to die. Of course your mad, your supposed to be mad, you were forces to leave your friend to die without any help. The leader reveals that your role in the operation was more important then you thought, if you didn't evacuate the whole war for the planet would've been lost. You lost your friend, but you won the war. You secured freedom for everyone on the planet, your friends death shall only truly be remembered by your team.

For me, one of the most chilling bad endings was actually to a side quest. In Majora's Mask, you can access Romani Ranch only on the third day until you can access the Powder Keg. Romani can be found here, dazed, forgetful, and distracted. Later on, when you can access the ranch earlier, you are given more context: aliens reminiscent of the Flatwoods Monster attack the farm to abduct the cows. Defending the ranch is TENSE. You're approached from all sides by "Them" and need to use your horseback archery skills to keep the waves and waves of enemies at bay, until daybreak. If you fail the quest, you discover why she was dazed every time you met on the third day - trying to protect the ranch, she too gets abducted. It's heavily implied that her memories were wiped.

the bad ending in Return of the Obra Dinn is simple but i do think it’s pretty funny. basically a mysterious character sends you a book detailing the journey of the Obra Dinn, a ship that disappeared years ago. the goal of the game is to completely fill out the book with the identities and fates of the crew. getting this book filled out is that character’s last wish before they die if you fill out the wrong answers, you’re sent a letter describing how disappointed he was in you, and how he died because he felt there was no more hope in this world due to your incompetence

i think the very first bad ending i ever got in a game was Ib, an rpgmaker horror game. there are multiple bad endings depending on how you interact with the two other main characters: Garry (who’s from the real world and the first nice character you meet) and Mary (a little girl who lives in the haunted painting world you have to navigate through. it’s revealed that she’s a painting herself) there are many endings where Mary manipulates Ib to stay in the painting world. she uses the faces of people like Ib’s mother and Garry (long after she’s killed him) to make her stay. I find these endings quite sad, because even though Ib is a silent protagonist, she’s just a lonely little girl trying to find comfort in a terrifying world. even in the “good” endings where she escapes, she’s often alone, or garry doesn’t recognize her

For me, one of the most morbid, soul-rending bad endings I've seen in a game is the "Together Forever" ending in Ib. To elaborate: The antagonist successfully kills Ib's only true friend and guardian in the art world who had gone out of his way to keep her safe and sane. Made worse by the fact that Ib has to watch him slowly die (and because she's so young and innocent, she either doesn't understand or is in denial that he is dead, seeing him as "sleeping") Through killing this friend, the antagonist is able to escape into the real world with Ib and, in doing so, causes all of reality to be rewritten, making them part of Ib's family. This comic retcon causes Ib to forget about the friend/guardian that the antagonist kill (the antagonist makes this stick by taking the only item that Ib had kept that belonged to said friend). So the antagonist, a dangerous, inhuman creature, kills an innocent person, rendering them forgotten, and rewrites the real world, rewrites Ib's life, wiping Ib's memories in the process, and gets off scot-free. It is so beyond morbid and unfair I can't stand anyone who tries to call this a "happy ending" in anyway.

A Bad Ending I found notable was the Conquest Ending of Hyperdimension Neptunia: Re;Birth2 / MK II where you literally kill the other main characters to power up the Gehaburn to defeat the Diety of Sin, Arfoire, who in this ending, actually speaks, prophesizing her return once the world wants a new leader. It's worse when Sisters vs. Sisters shows that this ending is canon to the events leading to the game, which also has another grim part of the story (not an ending) in which most of the main characters are killed by Arfore, who actually lost her consciousness from her great power, being a mindless husk that only kills. After her boss fight where she literally cannot die, she kills the protagonist before the last main character time travels in the past (this game is a time travel fight).

Fallout 1 does have pretty good bad ending yet there are different ways to get the bad ending. The game doesn't tell you but you got a time limit before the super mutants find your vault. Now this isn't too much of a problem since you should have enough time to handle the master unless in HubTown you have some people deliver water to your vault. Word spreads of your vault and now you have more time finding the water chip but less time to stop the Master's plan. Or upon being kicked out of the vault you head straight to FEV facility and rat on your vault because why not, you have the freedom to do so.

(Warning: HEAVY Spoilers for HDN R;B2's Conquest Ending) Ah yes, the infamous Conquest Ending. Not gonna lie, even when I don't own any Neptunia games, when I watched a no commentary conquest ending video, despite my usual demeanor of not being that easy to make cry, as I watched, sure enough I shed some tears pretty easily, everything about that ending was so uncharacteristically dark and depressing compared to any other Neptunia ending I've seen. Noire doing herself in, Uni guilting Nepgear into finishing what Noire forced her to start, Rom and Ram breaking down after the loss of Blanc, Linda (A.K.A.: Underling) actually dying (even though she was kind of a prick there trying to finish off a now severely weakened Vert and laughing about it), and that infamous line: "Hey, you wanna go for a stroll?", culminating in "[Neptune] has left." not to mention if you visit the basilicoms after each death, you would feel even worse hearing what the other nations' Oracles had to say: Kei tells Nepgear she doesn't even want to breathe the same air as her, Mina tells her how horrible she is for killing children, and Chika practically collapses on the ground in tears, after losing Vert, who she saw as a sister figure, begging for the impossible, for you to bring Vert back. Not to mention, the hollow victory when Arfoire LETS Nepgear kill her, and tells her that she had essentially become what she swore to destroy: Gamindustri's demise. And because of her haunting final words, Nepgear is left to suffer in self doubt (A problem she was already suffering with from the start of the game) for the rest of her life, potentially for an eternity, due to CPUs not being able to age. Even the credits animation shows Nepgear getting ready to address the world after all that she had just done to it. Needless to say, this ending shook me, an ending from a game I didn't even play. I'd assume it'd be safe to say that this ending is one of the worst Bad Endings I've ever seen in a game.

My favorite bad ending probably comes from Blazblue Cross Tag Battle. In the game's story mode, specifically the Blazblue story, you're presented with dialogue options at various points. I won't go over all of them, but to get the bad ending, you only need to pick one; in a later chapter, Ragna will encounter Hazama, who offers his "help" with the current opponents in exchange for any information Ragna has about their current situation. Hazama will still be your tag partner regardless of your answer, but if you accept, Ragna will tell Hazama about the Keystone, the macguffin that will supposedly send everyone home. Cut to after the final battle, and the characters present only have just enough time to notice the Keystone is missing before everything goes back to normal. But then, the player is treated to an image of Hazama, Keystone in hand, as he monologues about his "new toy." What makes this ending memorable for me is how personal it feels. At one point in his monologue, Hazama briefly chastises Ragna for letting his guard down, as it was the information he freely gave that allowed Hazama to procure this relic in the first place; it's as if the game itself is berating you for trusting this bastard at all (even as a Blazblue newbie, myself, I could tell this guy was bad news). And, personal anecdote, as someone who knew there was at least one more ending (of the three other characters present at the final battle, I only ever fought the boss with two of them), I was struggling to figure out how to trigger it, so when I finally looked it up and got that scene, I felt like *I* was the one being tricked.

There is Tales game that doesn't get the attention it deserves and imo when it comes to bad endings...Tales of Xillia 2. The premise of the game is already the darkest in the series having to exterminate entire timelines to save your own in a test setup by spirits. To win they must reach the land of Canaan which cannot be done without exterminating many lives in the process to gather keys from different timelines. Near the end of the game though, the keys are not enough to reach Canaan and in order to create a bridge to reach it they must sacrifice the main character's brother, who is doomed to die regardless. There is a whole section of choices where you can hesitate to kill him or accept it and fight a boss fight against him. Either way is a tragic moment but if you choose to be unable to go through with it, you end up fighting the entire rest of the party, killing them and dooming the entire world to its imminent demise. In the end the main character's brother just cannot be saved. And if that wasn't enough, if you proceed through with it and reach the true final boss, you're still met with a choice where either you have to die to save your daughter (from another timeline) or you let your daughter go. No matter the ending you go for, someone has to die. AND IF THAT WASN'T ENOUGH...ok this is about the cameo in Tales of Arise fighting Chronos from Xillia 2, but when you reach the battle arena in Arise, players who played through Xillia 2 can notice that the background implies that this is a version of the game where humanity failed its trial and every single timeline was wiped from existence. When it comes to Xillia 2, there is no truly perfect happy ending..except for the joke ending which is pretty funny tbh! This makes me think though this is a video topic similar to thinking about the "hardest choice options in games".

The ending of Conker gets even worse if you think about what Conker may end up doing when he gets home. What is that potential outcome? Well, one idea the devs had for the ending was having Conker... let's just say pull a Red Mist. But that was considered too dark for a game like this. Let's face it, for all the South Park esque adult humor, it's still mostly lighthearted and centered around satirical comedy. To have Conker end his own life would be pushing it a little more than the final release's ending. So they just settled on having Conker all Viva la Vida at the end... a song that would be too fitting for the ending, though.

Great choices in your list! If you ever make a part 2, I would love to see the bad ending of Tales of Xillia 2. Will talk about it so if you don't want spoilers don't read weee. - - - - - - - - Basically, the main character refuses to sacrifice someone to open the door to the final dungeon. And in doing so, decides to fight against the ENTIRE Party, in a 1v8 fight. (With 4 enemies at a time) Not only is it messed up from a emotional perspective, but it is also the hardest fight in the game because not only you are outnumbered, but if you get hit by certain artes and they proc the "Confused" status condition you basically instantly lose because you can't take control of your character, and there is no one else to use a cure status item on you. Winning this fight requires expert control of Ludger the main character, and knowing his air combos that let you combo the opponents safely and avoid touching the ground as much as possible, because in this fight the ground is lava lmao.

One bad ending that sticks to me is the "Bad ending" of Armored Core 6 Fires of Rubecon Throughout the course of AC6. You. Raven have been searching for where this living energy called Coral have been converging on the planet Rubecon, you're being lead by Handler Walter and assided by Ayre, a Rubeconian, Once you find it one of the companies takes over and captures you and Walter. After you're rescued by Carla you are given a choice, you can fulfill Walter's Wish to burn all of the Coral or you can side with Ayre and stop that plan by killing Carla and destroying the ship they plan on ramming into the Coral Taking Walter's side is the bad ending choice. As Ayre takes over a satellite to stop the ship. You have to fly up that Satellite to stop Ayre. A Tearful final boss plays out and then the Ship does its mission. However because the Coral was being taken to an Orbital elevator the Coral that's in the atmosphere also catches fire, The Burning Coral burns the entire planet of Rubecon. Killing everyone left on the planet. In the ending scene the Planet is closed off, deemed a No mans land. the player, Raven's whereabouts are unknown. But you are seen as a Monster who Burned a Civilization to Ash. With the entire event being dubbed the Fires of Raven.

To be honest. The Good ending isn't much better either. In the final battle of that Route, You have to fight and kill a mind controlled Walter. It's also a tearful fight because through dialogue Walter reveals the reason both you and himself are even on Rubecon is to earn enough Money to undo the Operation on the player that turned the player into an Emotionless killer. Its especially. Hard when after the fight he accepts his fate. Happy that you found a Friend in Ayre. It's still a bitter ending because even if Raven is Implied to have undone the Operation and is also implied to nowbe seen as a Hero, every character that the player may have grown attached to is still Dead from Prior events in the story aside from Ayre. Walter, Rusty, The Redguns, Carla, and Carla's faction I personaly Grew attached to throughout the game and they all die in both of these endings. Thre is 1 more ending. But I haven't gotten it yet.

Also: gonna point out, shocked you didn't point out Omori. No spoilers, but Omori has 6 endings, with 5 of them being "bad" endings. It's honestly an amazing game that deals with anxiety, suicidal ideals, PTSD, Depression, general psychology, and so much more. I honestly would highly recommend making a part 2 to this video to cover the Omori endings, as I think they're a VERY interesting part of this topic. (also two of the leads in that game are Mexican so you're required by law now.)

There is 1 bad ending that I think is the greatest bad ending of all video games, and that has to be cuphead

I find shadow dragon and Roy's endings kinda worse ends same with edegard route in 3 houses. If marth doesn't keep caeda alive he's pretty much sad and alone even though he won. Roy's route If you don't get to the true boss you kinda just fail the world. Edegard is definitely a bad end as they wouldn't be able to beat twsitd

Bruh, why you put snowgrave in it? First of all snowgrave is an route not an ending, second of all toby fox already stated that is gonna be one singular ending, meaning that your choices do not matter just sussie said in the first chapter, and tird of all the game is not even finish yet, deltarune only has 2 chapters, so we still have 5 chapters to go So in this video is clear to me that you don't know what are you even talking about
