I was so touched by Breadrev and Tembiles bakery. The rev being for reverence, revival, revolution and getting revved up of course. We need more people like Jerremy and if we/you can be a "Jerremy" then ... We need to suport them. No one needs to be hungry and we all need a purpose.

Traditional "Bunny Chow" was prepared by Indian indentured workers and their descendants as thick gravy goat or lamb curry in a hollowed out loaf of bread for lunch in the fields in Natal province. Definitely no beef as most of the workers were Hindus. Chicken rarely, mostly goat. Available in Harlem or Queens in New York. Probably not in London. Enjoy!

Paul comes across very nicely in this episode. I am glad apartheid is over, but SA is a very long way away from peace and harmony. There is a lot of violent crime still, but the country is stunning and the food looks amazing.

I grew up in the 70s and 80s in the Cape and the bread situation he talks about sounds to ne that I must gave grown up in another country - we had so much more than plain white bread. In my home we loved the whole wheat bread with the seeds around it - we used to buy different kinds of whole wheat breads, only plain white bread??? Definitely not in the Cape. I love this show, I watch it all the time, but I've seen more than once that he has his facts wrong.

Enjoying Paul and his eyes! But as a Canadian, I'm a bit surprised how untravelled and unaware he is - never been to Paris, didn't know what Ethopian tefel bread was. I lived in South Africa for a few years and miss seeing the Malva Pudding, perhaps my favourite SA dessert. And definitely don't think that was the traditional koeksister.
@brigittebenjamin95282 жыл бұрын
I'm from Cape Town and I have never seen that koeksister before with the coconut tucked into it. Perhaps it is a different more traditional type but i have never seen it. It looks almost like a bolla, a Cape Malay donut. I have grown up knowing the Cape Malay 'koesister' to have a darker colour on the outside and it is rolled in dessicated coconut. It is very popular to have it for breakfast with coffee on a Sunday morning. There is another type of koeksister that is originally made by the Afrikaners which is plaited like a girl's ponytail and it has been marinated in an extremely sweet gingery-cinnamon syrup. Very sweet but also very delicious
