Great video. I couldn't agree with you more. When I got back into bow hunting after 15 years, I started off with an affordable bow. Late season, I get an 8 pointer at 30 yds. The buck didn't ask what did I hit it with. My cousin, who had a $1500 bow, laughed. I still use that bow, and it still harvest deer. I have a little better one also, but I only bring it out on pretty days. LOL.....If I did more bow hunting, I would invest more money, so I don't knock guys who do. But if someone is just getting into it, I believe mid-budget is the way to go. Get your feet wet, work on your mechanics, see where it goes. After that, spend what you can afford, and enjoy.

Started bow hunting last season with a used Walmart bow. Went and got a bear adapt and spent the off season working on mechanics and I am in love with the sport.

I liked your video on budget bows. I have hunted with a bow since I was a young boy around 8 years old, I am now 51. I have always been a Hoyt fan , they are great bows and my first two compounds were Hoyt. After shooting my second Hoyt for 25 years and taking a lot of deer and hogs, I decided to look into a new bow. There are no Hoyt or mathews dealers close to where I live, so ,I have always had to travel some distance for strings etc. I checked out a more local bow shop that only had two brands, Bear and Expedition . I wanted a Bear bow as a back up, but I bought a Bear Legend XR. I really like the smooth draw and the way it shoots. I have never shot in any compition, but I wouldn't hesitate at all with a little more practice shooting against the high end bows. This new bow will be the bow I hunt with this year, and my old Hoyt will be my back up bow. Thanks for your video, I found it interesting. Budget bows don't have all the bells and whistles, may not be as fast as the high end bows, but are still just as capable for hunting and target shooting. It is all about having fun and just shooting a bow.

Just found your channel. Really good video, couldn't agree more. The prices of flagship bows are getting out of control. I just picked up a new Bear bow and I absolutely love it! Shoots every bit as accurate as my Bowtech. I also thought I'd get it as a back up bow but now my flagship bow is the one collecting dust! Like you said, it's not about the bow, but who's behind it.

Just picked up my Epic X2 yesterday at Cabela's, With the $100 off for using the Cabela's Club Card purchase an additional $75 off for spending over $500 deal they currently have and another $20 off for joining Cabela's club, I was $430 out the door with tax and could not be happier. Great video. I am just getting back into archery after a very long time away from it. My last bow was a Hoyt Raptor Redline and I still have it!! But I thought I should catch up with the times and got this same Blackout. I can afford more but why? I'm a backyard shooter and hunter. No comp shooting for me. That Hoyt was a really non budget bow and after 20 some years I can get a budget minded bow that runs circles around it....if I do my part. I'm looking forward to enjoying the relaxation of just shooting, and this bow will do just that and more!

After A LOT of paper I found that retarding the lower cam - 3/32nd gap - and one half less turn on the lower limb bolt got me the smallest of all tears. Still not a bullet hole, but the best it'll do. With the bow to spec; equal limb bolts and synced cams, I got a 1 1/4" long nock-high tear. (too, I glued a 3/32nd thick piece of leather to the lower stop, so have a good back wall)

Would you pick this bow over a bear or a mission mxr? The epic x2 us in sale for 400
@joshuadouglasarchery
@joshuadouglasarchery 4 ай бұрын
To me, I would prefer it over a mission MXR. The mission bows feel great, my girlfriend shoots one and loves it, but the draw cycle and performance are lacking if you want to have a bow you can get serious with when it comes to speeds and overall feel. It would have to depend on what bear bow you’re looking at, there is nothing Bear makes in the $400 range that I would shoot over the epic x2. The Alaskan XT or whitetail maxx would be the only bows I would say could compete. However, those bows are at least $150 dollars more expensive. I would still say go with the epic x2 and get a bow with the same cam systems, a longer ATA, and faster speeds than a bow that’s $200 more (whitetail maxx) and use that $200 on accessories to put on your bow!

No, that's not what it is all about, sometimes it's a archer that loves shooting and hunting. They probably have been hunting for years with the same old bow and would love to upgrade. They don't have the money to splurge on a $1000 dollar bow and all the up to date accessories. All they want is another good bow that is not going to cost more than their paycheck and will last ! few years. They are trying to find a really good bow that doesn't cost a fortune. Is there one actually made? Would you take it on a Alaskan Moose / bear hunt or an African safari ? If there is than let us poor people know.

I would say so! I hunted with it quite a bit this past fall and didn’t run into any issues. As a matter of fact, last year I was coming down to the wire on my elite coming in before I went to the iowa deer classic. I was potentially going to need to shoot my epic x2 in the 3D competition there and I wouldn’t have second guessed the bow if I had to! I just checked and it’s also on sale on the Cabela’s website, might be a sign if you’re looking to buy! Let me know if that helps at all.

Is the bow heavy for a hunting bow? I seen its 5lbs, sorry for all the questions new to archery and looking to buy a bow. Also hows the vibration? You seem to be the only 1 to do a video on it
@joshuadouglasarchery
@joshuadouglasarchery 4 ай бұрын
All good, brother, I’m happy to help! The weight has never came up as a problem to be, that being said I only really used it in hunting for whitetail but while walking my local 3D course a ton it never was an issue. Id say unless you’re planning on starting off in some high level backcountry hunts, the weight won’t be an issue! As far as vibration, there is a slight amount of hand shock but it’s going to be on par with anything in that price range. What’s more noticeable, in a good way, is the jump it has in the lower letoff setting. I have mine set at 75% letoff and it has a target bow feel when the shot breaks, which I tend to prefer.
@CodyVinson
@CodyVinson 4 ай бұрын
@joshuadouglasarchery I will only be used for whitetail hunting mainly on private but some public. I looked at alot of bows online and always comeback to this 1 seems like I can't find any bow with the performance specs like this for this price unless I look for used.

Depends on your arrow length and point weight! If you’re anywhere between 25-28.5 inches for an arrow and a point weight before 150 (point and insert) I’d say a 5mm arrow (personal preference) in a 340 spine. If you’re longer and/or heavier….I’d go with a 5mm in a 300 spine

I think it terms of buying a new bow out of the box that preforms at a high level, $600 dollars is pretty reasonable! Obviously some people might think it’s steep and some might think it’s nothing, it just depends on peoples circumstances in life. Nothing wrong if you think less is more budget friendly! All that matters is that you shoot!
