Nice topic. Speaking of bygone era's....do you think that you can do a video for fragrances for Men 50+? I'd say 95% of the fragrances out there are inappropriate for old guys like myself. We need your help! My top fragrances right now are Bohemian Lime, CreationE and Layton. Am I too old for these scents?
@LetsArion
@LetsArion 2 жыл бұрын
I personally think older men can wear a lot of the modern fragrances! If you think otherwise, you can always use an older parfum from the 80s or maybe even 90s. BUT: my dad is 50 and he still wears modern and fresh fragrances. I love to smell Chanel Allure Homme (the original one) on him. It's classy and gentlemanly, yet fresh and modern! Terre D'Hermes could be another mature modern fragrance. But my grandpa is 70 and I recently gifted him my bottle of sauvage and it smells great on him too and definetly not too young or youthful. Bleu de chanel is a similar fragrance but even more "mature" and "grown up". Eau sauvage is also a very classic fragrance and definetly less modern than the other ones I've mentioned. All I wanna say is just wear what you enjoy and feel great about it. Even if you enjoy a fragrance and think you're too old to pull it off it will probably work just fine!! (Unless it's really a youthful fruity scent like paco rabanne 1 million or maybe even le male)

Frederic malle’s Une Rose/Rose Tonnerre is a masterpiece by the perfumer behind Dior’s “Poison”. It’s Dracula’s “late evening” summer time rose fragrance that he wears when he’s out gambling in Monte Carlo, drinking “bloody Marys” which causes him to get kicked out of a lot of nightclubs cause Vampirism is discriminated against by the living. Although he “turns” greedy billionaires immortal on their private yachts for money cause he’s too proud to do Onlyfans and that mortgage & property taxes on that Transylvanian castle aren’t gonna pay themselves. He also “moonlights” as a DJ. He has an upcoming remix of the classic “the Monster mash” ft. Kygo. This summer’s gonna be lit. ✌🏽🥀😂

I've never smelled Pour Monsieur or Fougere Royale, but the other three are magnificent. When I was a kid, family members and family friends used to say that I was an "old soul", and indeed I am a sort of fan of things that some might consider old fashioned but not really to the extent that I'm stuck in a past that I was never a part of. With that having been said, I do actually really like old school men's perfumery, I'm a big fan of the old powerhouse style fragrances and these sort of gentlemanly fragrances as well as more modern fragrances that embody a similar spirit. Another couple of fragrances that I'm very familiar with that could be on this list are Aramis for Men which I think is almost like the original men's powerhouse, as well as Guerlain's Vetiver. Love those two as much as I love Habit Rouge, Eau Sauvage or Caron Pour Un Homme.

Fougère Nobile from Nobile 1942 is a great modern remake of a traditional fougère, which I don't personally like that much, but lots of others do. Is the fern-based name coming out of Victorian-era fern mania? I'm a fan of Eau Sauvage and the EdT of Habit Rouge, need to try the EdP at some point. I'm not sure if it's pettigrain or just the choice of musks which makes Pour Monsieur smell a bit urinous to me... I get that in Milano Cento Him too, so I have to be careful with the old-school citrus aromatics. Thanks for the explanation around classic vs. modern fougères, though. It seems to me that the category of "aromatic fougère" is meaningless now, it just means "generic men's fragrance".

I can tell that most fragrance reviewers don't get out where plants are growing much because ferns are one of the strongest smelling plants in nature. This is a perfect example of how when a lie gets repeated over and over eventually those that choose to be uninformed believe it is the truth.
@JT-rx1eo
@JT-rx1eo 2 жыл бұрын
Well those are great, almost no-brainer choices. I have bottles of all of them. A few notes though: The classification "fougere" is thrown around way too indescriminantly these days. A Fougere has an eponymous prototype (Houbigant Fougere Royale from 1882) much like impressionism has Impression Sunrise to define what a properly classified piece of impressionistic art is. And as you said, its substantially the lavender-coumarin accord that defines a Fougere. Most of these lavender-less "fresh" fragrances today are not, in my opinion, fougeres. Lavender is the nearly indespensible Fougere note, imo. And I stress NEARLY indespensible. I suppose a Fougere can be absent lavender, but I would typically refer to that as fougere-esq, Fougere-like, or as having Fougere touches. I just ordered one of those: 1992's Salvador by Salvador Dali doesn't have a lavender note, but it's very similar to Ralph Lauren Safari, which has lavender and Fougere touches. Houbigant Fougere Royale (2010 reimagined release formulated by Rodrigo Flores-Roux) is a very beautiful and appropriate example of a modern interpretation of a classic Fougere. Its reportedly substantially different than the vintage, but is nevertheless a great interpretation of a classic Fougere. A competitor to Fougere Royale is Amouage Bracken Man, which is very similar but even more photorealistically fern-like. I think Habit Rouge, which is basically a masculinized Shalimar, is too complex for my tastes. Neither it nor Un Pour Homme de Caron do it for me. I would choose CK Obsession for Men as my amber frag.
