Great! Thanks so much. I'm an old lady so this is why my story really resonates. Nobody in my family is an artist, although I can always hope, so presents in my life never included art materials except one year in college my mother gave me a really nice tin box of excellent drawing pencils. That was such a treasure that I never opened the box. I used all my junk pencils for years. But I always had those pencils just in case! My mother is 95 and I am just glad that she is still around to thank for those pencils...they are finally being used in creating a mountain of work as I nervously consider how much time I have left...

Jaksons have a nice synthetic range of quill brushes too called "Raven" just in case that's helpful to anyone they come in different sizes and hold loads of water too at a good price :-)

I just got a different model of a Pentel Orenz 0.2mm pencil! Mine has a dark blue (I'm colourblind so I'm not exactly sure the colour) barrel, and a metal knurled grip. I love it so freaking much, and I love how much heft my model has

Aww very cool gift guide. My want monster has kicked in on so many items. I think I will give in for an art book. Yep I keep forgetting one of these and let’s face it it’s an investment in my art style for education ergo a wonderful gift to get. You must get the Derwent lightfast if you have the luminance as they pair beautifully with the lightfast more muted but very singular colours in no other set as is luminance, which simarly has very singular colours but offers more of a bright selection to the muted Derwent. They work together beautifully and the colours that are singular to each set work brilliantly together. Best gifts I ever bought myself for this Xmas with real bargains and free express international shipping from Cult Pens in the UK. Beat the price of everyone else and a 5 day wait to get them in WESTERN Australia, totally recommend.

The brushes you mention are produced in Romania (it's a rumor that I haven't confirmed yet, so don't quote me on that) and sold by a well-known brand of brushes, Da vinci. They are actually Spin-Synthetics brushes, I say this because from what I noticed (because I tested them) they behave and look exactly like the ones you mention, only they cost much less if you buy them from the brand Davinci. So I don't know why they don't mention who actually produces them. I think it's just marketing.

Have you tried the Poblo pencils? I understand theu are quit good too, and not as expensive as the Luminous. They are student quality but equal the artist quality in most other brands. But not as nice as the Luminous. Again, this is what I understand, I don't have any experience with either. Oh, Blick has their Derwent %50 off right now
