I love how transparent you are: "I almost came in last place." Just more proof of the old adage never give up. And you did a root cause analysis and concluded it was you 😮. Who does this 😮!

The fact that you would barely be all state in our state meet this year is crazy and really says something about the talent nowadays. I cannot believe that above 15:39 wouldn’t even get you in the top 30 now.

Running my first XC race on Saturday here in the UK at 53, 3 years into running - propping up the tail-end of our club's team most likely. If I can get round in sub-40 I'll be happy! IT's going to be a mud-fest as senior men go out last of all!

This was absolutely inspiring. Almost my whole close family has gone to Georgetown, and to have someone from the university I know and love talk about the sport I want to go far in was amazing. Go Hoyas! If I work super hard, maybe I can be in your place one day.

@zeeksfreaks602Ай бұрын
I think, and I hope I ran my worst ever race for a cross country 5k last Saturday. I'm a freshman that ran 19:26 for a 5k 3 weeks ago on a super fun, but exhausting course with mud pits, river crossings, trails, everything that was super fun. So I was thinking to myself that on a legit golf course, I would be able to run around 18:00 exactly, give or take a bit. We had a home meet that was a terrible course, and I was pretty sick, and yet I got a really nice time im happy with. (for being sick) (11:34 for 2 mile) So then, here comes the 5k im looking to run a fast time on. A very decent course, not the best, there are many skinny trails especially going up some really big hills. So, the race starts off, and I run my 1st mile a few seconds off pace, but im feeling pretty good at this point. Then another 400 meter of flat running goes on, and I feel like im dying. Running in races is legit the most random thing: Look at Leo Young in his NXN race for his senior year. Running at least 50 meters ahead of Aaron Sahlman, 1t place, then just dies at the hill and gets 11th. It's little random things that can tear your race apart. I ended up barely PR'ing on a very good course, I got 19:16, and 121st place. 100 places worse than my 2 mile. I don't know why bad days just happen, but they do. Just be prepared for them, and don't get angry at yourself. It even happens to Jakob Ingebrigsten, Leo young, Spencer Brown and others.

I really need help with my cross country training because in England we dont qualify as a team to our county level you only qualify individualy and I’ve never represented my county (Sussex) it’s really hard for me and my team isn’t very good. I’m 13 and my 5k time is 21 minutes and my 800m time is 2:41 if that helps but yeah I’m really bad and in need help

I' think you ill break that 10k time. Soon. I'm hiking you will break 50 on a 10 miles.. I'm not sure if that translates to sub 30 cross10m.
@BweygАй бұрын
Oh that's WAY more than enough fitness to break 30 in the 10k. Sub 50 for 10 miles is 4:59 mile pace, sub 30 minutes for 10k is only 9 seconds per mile pace faster than that, not that much faster for a much more shorter distance.

I was constantly sick and or injured in XC (Kids: never go on a vegetarian diet as an athlete!), but I had two good races my senior year that kept my hope alive. I ended up running my first marathon that year and had some solid road races during college (Too slow to make the D1 team). The mental resilience i learned from all the setbacks serve me well, even 50 years later.

@@terraflow__bryanburdo4547 you are most welcome. Read a book instead of blindly believing in anything that confirms your own biases. That way you will see that a vegan or vegetarian diet is suitable and (even superior in certain circumstances) for any stage of life, in athletes or non athletes.
