Hi Billy. I’m new to drone flying and recently bought the Mavic Mini, mainly because I’ve been incredibly impressed with the results that can be achieved. From my limited experience, it is an amazing little machine. To familiarise myself with the drone, I’ve been watching countless KZbin videos to learn as much as I possibly can. Some have been really helpful. Some haven’t lol. Today, I came across this video for the best settings for the Mini and found it incredibly helpful, as well as being explained in a way that a newbie like me can understand. A really, really useful video. I’m definitely going to be watching more of your videos because I’m sure they will help me understand the drone so much better, which will hopefully enable me to get the results that I hope to get.

Wow Billy! You are so knowledgeable - I love all the information you seem to instantly be able to put out there, even on a brand new product such as the Mavic Mini - I recently took possession of my own MM on release day but the weather here in the UK has been atrocious so I've not been able to take it out once as yet so I've been swotting to take in your great knowledge so that I am ready for my first flight - keep up the great work Billy - I'm thoroughly enjoying all of it - 🤘😎👍

Yep! I would definitely use Mode 3, because I work in a video game company and I often needs to capture footage using a virtual camera in-game and the left stick is used to move the camera left-right-forward-backward. So it would make more sense in my head since I've been using this setup for so long.

Ok Billy, you’ve done fantastic for me in preparing me to be totally familiar with the mavic mini and the dji fly app! Thank you! I have had mine for 4 days now! Everything in the process has gone flawlessly and I am enjoying the heck out of the first drone/quad copter I’ve ever flown! Had snow and wind the 1st couple days so I started in c-mode and flew figure 8’s in every room in the house until I was comfortable doing it in “P”osition mode. Yep then “S”port mode! Lol. Then I walked around the house flying room to room doing figure 8’s or boxes or ovals (sliding diagonals, rt stick). Finally wind let up, it was snowing 😱, couldn’t take it anymore so I flew it out my back door into 8-12 mph N wind w/snow. No problem for the mini! Had a blast flying in the snow! Can visually track it out to about 300 M with a cloudy back lit sky. But next day is bright sun! No clouds! I loose visual at just over 150-200 M.! I just put firehouse navigation strobes on the mini! OMG dude! What a blast! What a difference! I can visually track out to 300M in a cloud free sky with brilliant sun! AND a/c orientation is always in view! Can’t wait for the Sun to go down so I can try them a night! These lights are so bright I am sure I will have to switch to dimmest setting for night flight! So cool! Thanks again!

Great video Billy! Just noticed there is an update to Version 1.0.3 on my iPhone for the DJI Fly app to fix the RTH altitude issue. They're listening to you Billy!!! :) I've flown RC helicopters for years and have found that generally Mode 2 is used mainly in the US and Canada. Mode 1 is used in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and the rest of the world including Asia pretty much. But it's really up the individual pilot and their preference. I was taught to fly mode 1 at an RC helicopter club here in Australia so I fly the same on my drone. Thanks for another great video!

Hey Billy. Thanks for the settings suggestions. I agree that as an FPS gamer (even casual ones like me), the Mode 3 works best for me. I find it to be very comfortable to my style of flight. I just got the Mini, as well as a copy of DCL The Game. It's a great way to practice your stick handling without the worry of crashing your drone IRL. The free flight allows you to work on your moves. Though there is no gimble wheel, it's a decent game for practice. Cheaper to buy the disc than download direct, FYI. Cheers!

I believe I have the most unique stick controls I've seen. It's like Mode 3 but with Ascend and Descend swapped. Like you said, I play video games so this is what made the most sense in my head when I was learning to fly. I've always used "inverted" controls in flight games where moving the stick up pushed the nose down. Hence the need for this wacky custom control scheme. :)

Billy, as usual you have presented another outstanding video on the Mavic Mini. I will be ordering mine soon and with your videos it should be a breeze to set up and go fly. Keep those videos coming as the way you explain everything in a straight and forward fashion makes it easy to understand. And you don't go too fast and everyone can follow along ( and thanks for NO music ) which makes videos hard to understand. If you ever get down to Florida give a shout would like to meet up in the Tampa area.

Billy thank you! Once again another very helpful video. I'm a newbie, the MM is my first drone and I'm learning lots from your videos. Great video. I also adopted your gimbal settings, thanks. BTW: I fly mode 3! I've been flying RC planes for 25+ years in mode 1 and for quadcopters and helicopters mode 3 makes perfect sense to me. Thanks Billy, this was well covered over all. I almost am in line with the settings which makes me feel proud to be in line with your settings. I do have a pointer I learnt for the stick mode, I use the mode 2 as you suggested/use. But if I want the camera pointing at me while it flies away, I use a custom setting to make it behave like the front of the drone acts as the back and vice versa. This is awesome for the manual dronie shots. Avoids the calculation in your head that left is right and front is back every time lol. Hope this helps.

Hi, thanks for the advice on setting up the Mavic Mini (my first DJI drone) as your sample images/videos look really good, so I've set mine up the same. I have a question though, if you, or any of your other watchers/responders wouldn't mind answering? Do you get any degradation of video quality when yawing? No matter what speed the Mini turns the video blurs to the point that that the video is totally unusable. Today I noticed that this even occurs when flying forward/backward at speed (CineSmooth seems ok on the forward/backward motion but P and S is blurred). Is this occuring in your (or any other Mavic Mini user's) drone? Keep the tips and tricks coming, as they're invaluable for the new drone (MM) user (I mostly want this to use when on holidays). Thanks for your time and effort.

The fact that the Auto RTH Altitude defaults to 49.2ft EVERY TIME you close and reopen the app is a MAJOR oversight on DJIs part!! They need to update the app ASAP to keep it at the last user setting. ie: When you set it to 200ft, close and reopen the app, the RTH altitude resets to 49.2ft. HUGE FLAW!!

what happened to "advanced" options in gimbal control. I no longer have this with latest update so my gimbal can't be adjusted??
@russellk.bonney85344 жыл бұрын
This is good but here are some lessons I have learned. The Mini is a 2.7k drone. If you have that res or 4K even, your computer must be new enough to handle anything better than 1080. If it's that old, then use 1080 25fps. You can NOT do post editing in the TJI fly app and update the SD card data. However you can do post on the cache vid on your phone and upload to your social app. It's good enough for that.

I had a wonderful nice job comment but I forgot to tap the button. Anyway, this is good. I would say get a good computer that can handle better than 1080 if you want to edit. The phone edit is only good for social uploads. As for the 'allow gimbal up' setting. If you are flying high and doing cine stuff, sure... use it to look up to mountains etc but if you are flying low you need your cross hairs on zero to set you height above obstacles like trees etc. and the 0 setting is much easier to get with the gymbal up option turned off but you can still swivel down. When you set your gymbal in the DJI fly app, the surface must be accurately horizontal (by a spirit level) or you might crash into one of those obstacles, plus; then your horizon is accurate. Also in C mode with trees around you can hover in place and set your gymbal to look up to try and see a way out of trouble, like if you pan, look up 20^ and see daylight up in front, you should be good to go up and slow forward. If you've been in among the trees you will know what I mean. Remember you have a helicopter that hovers so do not reverse or crab. Flying blind will lead to one thing. Hiking! The gymbal can either be a toy or a weapon. safe flying.

I think the only differences I have with my mini is that I will set my max altitude and distance on a flight by flight basis, based on what I will be shooting and the surrounding terrain. The other is the gimbal settings; I have my gimabla speed a little slower and the smoothness a little higher, but that's just personal preference.

@Billy Kyle Just been out to test the RTH ALTITUDE BUG, and it's not as bad as you think. It does actually retain your last entered RTH altitude, it just doesn't show that on the slider. Firstly, I set RTH ALT to 100ft and flew out to 300ft distance @ 50ft AGL, hit RTH, it raised to 100ft and came back. Then I closed the app, checked that it had reverted back to 49.2ft, then flew out to the same distance and height. It again raised to 100ft before coming back. So should be an easy fix for the DJI boffins.
