Fun fact: the inscription on Lu's shoes says something like "the ability to withstand 5000 tons" and he donated them to the Olympic Museum in Switzerland.

The segment on Loredana Toma made me realize for the first time that the Romanian flag actually looks like plates. A quick google of her shows that in training she likes to put the yellow plates between the red and blue. Surely she does that to rep her flag, which is the drippiest move in this whole vid.

A ton of lifters go red, yellow, blue to minimize barbell loading/unloading effort: 1. Red (70 kg) 2. Red Yellow (100 kg) 3. Red Yellow Green (120 kg) 4. Red Yellow Blue (140 kg) 5. Red Yellow Blue Green (160 kg)

I'd like to add another PL, strongman and bodybuilder to the list: John haack's all American drip is simply iconic. He makes me feel patriotic about the states and i don't even live in the States. Rich piana's drip: tank top, fully sleeved armes, loads of expensive jewelry and a lifestyle that perfectly matches his looks. Mikhail Shivlyakov: Former russian marine, always wears his beret, known for his RPE 11 deadlift at WSM.

Hey Zack, just wanted to say that three of those lifters (Rigert, Alekseyev, Pisarenko) represented the Soviet Union but only Alekseyev was Russian. Rigert was Austrian and raised in Russia, and Pisarenko was Ukranian. It is common to say "Russia" when we talk about the USSR but there were obviously several republics contained within it. It would be a little more accurate just to call those lifters Soviet.

Zak, Alexeev was one of the most recognizable figures in sports behind Muhammad Ali. Even if those who couldn't recall his name knew he was "that Russian weightlifter who lifted 500 pounds". The current lifters today are no where near as famous as Alexeev.

Way more there were tons of Republics and autonomous zones within the Council Union of Socialist Republics. Zyzz was Technically a soviet citizen. I absolutely agree though, we've been taught a un-nuanced narrative about the entirety of the eastern bloc, and tend to thing everything was centered around the Kremlin, it's patently false, and I think it's reductive to consider the USSR just Ukranian and Russian, especially considering how difficult it's been for the Muslin republics since the collapse, the ethnic cleansing of Serbs by Croatia and so on- all of these places deserve their on national respect for their own achievements, or for humanity as a whole, but not for Russia, or another imperialist power.

Anatoly's shoes are probably "Matocha" weightlifting shoes, which were handmade in spain and usually had the big "M" on the side. I own one pair, but the shoemaker sadly passed away in 2015 so these shoes aren't made anymore I don't think. Really great handmade shoes in full leather and wooden heel.

I am aching in every bone to go fucking lift. you and your videos get me thru these tough times and remind me that strength is a marathon, not a sprint. when i know ill be missing a gym day [very, very rare] im nigh unto tears. it is, as you said in the golden eagle vid, the best part of our day. your content makes this suffering easier and puts my mind where it should be: always on the bar.

Probably would have like to see Fraer Morrow or Meso on this list. Fraer's glasses make her the Peter Parker of weightlifting. She could wear contacts, but, no, the glasses combined with pigtails give you that something extra. You don't need it, but for some reason, it's the right move. Meso could have been on the list as well for the hair alone. That hair would be the best hair on this list, and combine that with the solid undershirt game, you have a top-10 pick in my mind.
