It's getting really confusing with Jeff Nippard and Mike Israetal saying long head is best overhead while others say the opposite. Seems like studies are losing their value when you can find a study to promote anything.
@Evan.Holmes3 күн бұрын
@@marshalljrwilliams5820 yeah there is only one study showing that tho, multiple others that don’t and other mechanistic data supporting that it wouldn’t

Impressive video, Evan Holmes. Eager to see your next upload from you. I smashed that thumbs up button on your content. Keep up the fantastic work! Your explanation of the long head's mechanics was enlightening. How do you think integrating more variations could influence growth across all three heads of the triceps?
@Evan.Holmes3 күн бұрын
@@KeyserTheRedBeard thank you! More variations will ultimately result in loading slightly different joint angles with peak resistance at different joint angles, and because different fibers have better leverage at different joint angles, they can’t be maxed out in growth unless they’re being trained where they have their best leverage. So the variation helps us cover those bases by varying which fibers have best leverage at a given angle

As you know, the most recent and probably the highest quality study showed more growth in the lateral and medial head with OH extensions. Also, the Kholinne study showed the medial head produced significantly more force in positions of shoulder elevation. Definitely leaving some potential gains on the floor by not including some OH work.
@Evan.HolmesКүн бұрын
@@craigwilson3170 definitely not that black and white. No training is done in a vacuum and there are lots of reasons why overhead extensions may not be as good or necessary for max med and lateral growth. Regardless, I didn’t say to avoid overhead extensions and in fact recommended them

People always say triceps make up most of the arm, yet I seen so many guys with very large bis as compared to the triceps. One more thing, its a video, so show us. Always keep in mind that "one picture is worth a thousand words."
@pouihurmen2 күн бұрын
The only situation where the active insufficiency argument for the long head actually applies is pure pressing movements. I just don’t buy that a JM press for example doesn’t load all three heads significantly which is why the importance of overhead work is massively overrated imo. Probably still worth doing at some point but I’m convinced you can get horseshoes with just Pushdown variations, JM presses and dips. Arguably those are even better than overhead extensions due to having more adjustable strength curves and allowing you to get maximum tension at full elbow bend
