This channel is astounding the level of polish for what is comparatively a small channel. Hope you continue to grow and make amazing videos

Your videos are incredibly, IMMENSELY well done and put together. I consider you to be an inspiration and one of the most important voices on this platform and in the film community. I discovered this channel with last year’s best film list (2020) and it’s still unfathomable to me how well done, meticulous and well thought your videos are. I always get the feeling that this videos are way too good to be on KZbin for free. Especially considering that most of the people that are REALLY popular in the film community have little to no knowledge, understanding and idea of the truly good films that come out in the year, aswell as film knowledge, vocabulary and understanding.

Of these I have only watched "I Am Your Man", and I have to say it can easily hold its own next to "Her". You have made me interested in "The Harder they Fall", which I did not hear about before.

There's a long list of films I look forward to watching and a much shorter list of those I ever actually will. Your takes are pretty informative to both of them. All the best for the new year.

I really, REALLY appreciated him calling Django Unchanged out like that, I thought I was the only one that disliked that film.

If anyone has seen I'm Your Man in original language, could you please rate Dan Steven's german? It's insane that he learned the language just for the part. Added it to my watchlist.

I'm only half-german, but comparing his accent to my family's, it's really solid. Certain vowels are pronounced slightly off so it's noticeable he isn't a native speaker, but it's slight enough not to recognize any clear British accent. His rythm in his voice is very nice to follow, nicer than a lot of germans, so his performance is in any way fantastic. He actually sounds a bit like a synchronization actor for the german dubbing of English media, which actually makes his performance slightly uncanny and also works in its favor. Especially since most foreign films in Germany are dubbed, it brought up a lot of cringe from having to watch german dubbed 'A Christmas Carol' on TV while visiting Grandma around Weihnachten. This is a callout, Germany. Stop dubbing your films. I would rate it: has-a-german-parent-and-studied-his-bachelor-in-germany-after-highschool-and-stuck-around-ever-since/10, but maybe an actual german would have different things to say.

@@ThaX14 Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed reply. It has confirmed it as must-watch.

They also mention the fact he has an English inflection in the film and acknowledge his British cadence to certain words - to which he says it was a programming decision intended to give him a pleasant, soothing alternative to a traditional German accent :)

I found Zola and The Card Counter underwhelming, especially in the writing department. I think some of the imperfections are lost in cultural translation. It's a somewhat interesting phenomenon, I'm sure my end-of-year list will feature a lot films people from the countries they're made in would find trite or inauthentic. Looking forward to checking out The Killing of Two Lovers, hadnt even heard of it until this video, thanks.
