This game was DEEP. The closest thing we have today is We Are Football 2024, made by the same guy who produced the FIFA Manager series (Gerald Köhler). He doesn't have the same resources he had back when EA was funding FIFA Manager, but WAF is still a very good FM alternative. FIFA Manager 14 and its mods will always be GOATed games, though

I think it's the fan mods that have made it look much better now. I remember trying Fifa Manager 2012 back in the day and it was very meh, especially compared to the addictive Football Manager back then. Definitely looks better with the mods, much more immersion & pretty to look at. Fifa Manager online was so cool because you could play a season with random people and take part to auctions for the same player. It’s a feature that Football Manager never impelemented. You could always play with other people online but with friends only, not casual lobbies

I have played both the original and modded iteration. The mod just gets you updated squads, kits, player pics, updated start menu. The rest of the game is just the same as the original Pretty cool game

I don't know if I remember it right, but I think the stadium-building-tool got deleted or a lot smaller in the later games. Just this year I tried playing FM24 the first time since my good old days with EA FM10-13 and it's good but not the same. Maaan, I loved that old game. Loved taking over smaller clubs, the huge fanbase that produced so much content. I was spending hours building a new stadium. I was quite shocked that there is no stadium or infrastruce-building at all, less or no options for negotiations with sponsors. All in all it's quite the same game nowadays but they still missed some of the good stuff.

In my opinion both manager series are good but I played other football manager game series too. Total Club later Fifa manager was good in my opinion despite EA published, because it gave you a lot of freedom on how to manage and what club to manage. Totalclub was simple and was less flashy than the more modern versions but I liked it also created football systems for non playable countries. Currently I am stick with Fifa Manager 07 and made some adjustments in it and still need to finish some country to expand it. I like that how they improved the variety with faces, hairstyles and so. Also the editor for the game let you bulk edit teams if you not wish to work on every single person. Also the personal life and build a stadium is a good pros to alter and improve your experience. Also with the editor you can skip this phase partly and prebuild a team you like.

As a German ( where this Game literally was THE Manager Game), i still have every Copy as CD :D - did help some years with the Databases, which gave you every year a nice package of merchandise from EA and FM, with of course .. the Game :D ) - For us in Germany this is a Manager, you manage that whole Club, in England its director of Football i guess. As a Manager you literally manage your Club. Finances, Stadium. Architecture and so on. I really miss that game =( yes the Updates and so on, but its not a real new game. funnily enough that a 10 year old game had better graphics in Game Sim as Sega FM.. which is quite sad tbh.

I had FIFA Manager 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006. 2005 was the worst. 2004 where they integrated it with FIFA was superb! I spent countless hours playing it as well as the 2006 edition. Being able to use the database for all kinds of mods was another game-changing (pun intended) feature.

Typical EA. When someone comes to compete with one of their franchise and do it better than EA, they simply run away from and move or close the studio instead of give it some budget and try to be better. Fifa Manager lost to FM, Medal of Honour lost to COD, Simcity lost to Cities: Skylines, The Sims will likely lose to Inzoi and Paralives. Always the same story.

I've always played both Football Manager and FIFA Manager. As much as FIFA Manager is a nostalgic game with a really great idea, lets not forget why the series was finished. They inserted a wild ton of options in the game, but this is pointless if the IA was completely dumb and unrealistic and the match/league doesn't feels at all as a real football game. I'm not kidding and people who played both in the past probably will agree, FM 2d modes were more realistic than FIFA Manager marches with FIFA graphics. I'm not even mentioning the imense collection of bugs in the game. EA was just defeated by Sports Interactive the same way they've defeated PES, but in this case with much more available budget. People interested in this can just Google the reasons why FIFA Manager is no more. If there is any project to get this game back, and I support it, EA needs to take the project seriously.
