Glad you included Samir on this list man. I think he gets forgotten about sometimes but boy did he have a physique that was WAY ahead of it's time. The thickness and detail in that back was astonishing and wouldn't be seen again until Dorian came on the scene. No real weak bodyparts and a posing routine that could leave you open-mouthed. One of my all time favourites.

@Tomn8er

Probably but just barely. He'd definitely be dropped below Dillet and Dexter. And only if his minimal use of drugs is to be believed.
@CC-be3ko
@CC-be3ko 4 жыл бұрын
He is not even close to be in the top 20. Genetics must be measure in how good you would look at your best and not how fast you look good. Do you really think Lee at his best would be able to defeat Jay, Kai, Victor Martinez, Cormier, Wolf, Yates, etc? No, he wouldn't.
@Tomn8er
@Tomn8er 4 жыл бұрын
@@CC-be3ko that's not how I look at it. Dorian beat damn near everyone at their best but doesn't mean he was better genetically. And he'd be the first to admit that.
@CC-be3ko
@CC-be3ko 4 жыл бұрын
@@Tomn8er That's why i said: " how good you would look at your best" instead of: "how good you look at your best". For example, like you said Cormier was never as professional as Dorian so we can only especulate how good he would've look if he developed all his genetic potential like Dorian. The same goes to Dillet, Wheeler, etc. But Lee Priest is different, he was almost max out. He trained hard for years but some of his bodyparts weren't good enough Like his back, glutes, and pecs. Also because his small frame he could've never compete in mass with biggers guys like Dorian or Ronnie. To sum up, some guys like Flex or Cormier never developed his full potential, while other guys like Priest even at his full potential wouldn't be good enough to compete for the Mr Olympia. Thanks for replied the previous answer.
@dj_m19
@dj_m19 3 жыл бұрын
@@CC-be3ko way too much shitting on Dorian to be honest. There's this myth of him having the worst genetics but the worst worth ethic that was able to overwrite his genetics and turn him into a 6 time Mr. O and one of the best bodybuilders ever. It's a myth. Yes he didn't have the shape or the insertions of these guys but his thin skin and predisposition for that sahara desert conditioning, graininess and overall hardness is second to none. You think Cormier would look like Yates if he trained as hard and dieted as hard? nope. Not to mention that how well you respond to gear is also genetic and Yates might just be the best hyper responder out there with Levrone, Coleman and Ruhl. You don't put on that much size unless you have top tier genetics.

Samir was not 100% before Haney. In Haney's first Mr O, Samir won it in 1983 and Haney was 3rd. I agree that Haney's back improved year after year but these 2 did cross paths. As to Melvin, yes he had a slim waistline but if you really want to go nuts on the topic, it was Brian Buchanan who I believe had the smallest waist and certainly the best waist to should /back width measurements. He was reported to have a 27 inch waist in competition. Thats the guy you might want to look up.

Probably such lists (not this in particular as a trained eye as yours can catch superior genetics anyway) would make a lot of sense with categorization by era. For example mid and late 90s is a totally different beast than early 90s and 80s due to availability to relatively cheap HGH and insulin.

I kind of feel like everyone before Dorian doesn't count. Either legs were lacking or the size wasn't there. Also we'll never know how they would have looked conditioned. Some guys physique just kind of melt when they have to get shredded to a striated glute level conditioning. Like everyone knows Jean Pierre Fux looked like Mr. O in the gym but it just didn't translate well on stage. Edit: not saying these guys weren't great bodybuilders just there's so many variables we can't account for.
