Hey man just commenting to say that I really like this new format you seem to be going for, where you do a series of videos on a single topic in succession. You're obviously very knowledgable about the subject, so often I don't feel like a single video is enough for you to say everything you want to say on a subject. Keep going strong!

Since 40% of our behavior is habit-driven, if you want to control your ability to be self-disciplined, you have to control your habits. In general, any habit can be broken down into a three-part loop: 1. First, you sense an external Cue, for instance, somebody offered you a piece of cake. 2. Next comes the Action, meaning the activity you’re used to performing when faced with this particular cue. Your action? Giving in to the offer. 3. Finally, you get a Reward: the taste of a delicious piece of cake. Ask anyone who is trying to lose weight: when the craving for sugar and unhealthy food hits you straight in the face, it’s hard to ignore. The trick here is to still respond to the craving, but with something other than eating something that is unhealthy. This is the golden rule of changing any habit: don’t resist the craving, redirect it. Keep the same cues and rewards, but change the routine that occurs as a result of that craving. For instance if your craving is a sweet piece of cake, replace it with eating a delicious apple!

Most difficult thing about quitting smoking is the fact that you have a billion triggers. Every single small pause, boredom, loneliness, hungry, coffee, just ate, just had sex, walk out the door, see a friend, have a beer, everything is associated with a cigarette.

I've smoked for more than 20 cigarettes a day for 10 years and replacing cigarettes with gums simply does not work. Cigarettes are a physical and mental addiction not just a bad habit, I've stopped by the book "How to Stop Smoking" by Allen Carr, he explains this in detail, basically whether you replace anything with the object of your addiction your brain will do nothing but think (in our case) about cigarettes. This is my only criticism for the rest your videos and those of "improvement pill" are really helping me a lot. I am a 24-year-old boy who has always had to deal with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, and the feeling that nothing can help me, but your videos have made me think of this last point. Can you make more videos about finding your own passion and the way to go? How to look inside to figure out what you want to do? (I'm sorry for my English, I'm Italian)

I think it's also useful to cite an author when referencing his (or her, but his, in this particular case) work. Also, be a tad bit wary about saying things like "I think it's called the..." then using actual medical terminology. The amygdala is primarily responsible for emotions (the 'reward' portion of the brain...hence why, when we do something that we've come to expect to happen through a routine -- such as a particular routine like eating when we feel hungry, or smoking at a particular time of day -- our brain rewards us with a powerfully addictive neuro-chemical called dopamine which makes us feel happy [and it's the rush of dopamine which helps conclude the 'cue-routine-reward' loop of a habit]) once it comes in contact with (previously discussed dopamine) to help a person feel happy about accomplishing whatever habit routine he/she initially started. Edit: The book 'The Power of Habit' (by Charles DuHigg) also identifies how to (in a general sense) "determine" how long each individual person 'should' take to form, replace, etc. a habit. Food for thought.

My criticism for this video is that u may want to use a script in videos. I can't help but notice how often u use phrases such as like, I think, I'm pretty sure, or I can't remember. It comes across as very unprofessional, almost like you yourself don't remember what you are trying to teach us. It's comparable to if I had a teacher at school that constantly stuttered and didn't rlly know the material they were teaching us, I wouldn't have the same respect for them and probably wouldn't listen or pay attention much. I am still subscribed and appreciate the knowledge I gain from these videos, but when you constantly are unsure of yourself, it makes me unsure that I'm going to actually get anything out of the video. Just some healthy criticism for you to work on

Yeet Sack i think it makes him appear more relatable to the viewer, more intimate and less authoritarian in approach, which helps open you up and follow what he is talking about and not feel you are being told what is 'fact'. If you have a salesman who treats you as a friend than someone putting on a performance, you'll like them more and consider what they have to offer. (friends will trust and buy from friends over strangers). If you're learning things from his videos, then he succeeded. its a laid back approach and for me, feels more natural than him ticking off dot points. he would have scripted it or had an outline, but i feel his approach appears more genuine than coming off as an essay, does that make sense? 0.o
@whybegin12857 жыл бұрын
Jake Bray the problem is that he is teaching with this video. He's not selling us something, so he shouldn't be coming across as our friend or something we're having a conversation with, as he's the one doing all the talking. Since he's teaching us, he should take command, and be more loud and clear. Look at almost any other educational video ever made on KZbin, they stick to a script to get their facts straight, that way the viewer feels that the person they are learning from knows what he is talking about

Jake Bray , the tone was very friendly and "light hearted". But when listing a scientific fact, or reiterating an earlier excersize he asked us to do, there should not be any hesitation in his sentences

I don't know whether or not you prepare a script beforehand or just write down rough notes for your videos but I would sincerely recommend you prepare what you are going to say. The content you are trying to present is good and I can see that you have structured it to some degree, but I feel like the content could be better presented in terms of the way you phrase it. For example, you have the habit or repeating certain words ("like"), or even whole phrases, or correcting yourself, etc. All of this ruins the flow of the video. Also, I have read many of the books you are talking about and when you start mentioning examples from them but do not convey them fully or provide wrong details, it seems unprofessional. So I would recommend you do some fact checking while you write your script. Also, the visuals have become a bit overcrowded and could do with a bit more structuring. For example, when you talking about the cue-habit-reward cycle at the beginning of the video, you somehow crush three images together in the right side of the screen and seemingly in a random order. These little things make it harder to follow the video. Please take this feedback as well-intentioned. I like your channel and would like to see more of the content, but I just think you have the potential to present it in a more tasteful, organized way. I hope you will apply some of my suggestions if they make sense to you. Either way, keep up the good work!

No problem with the core idea, but the advices are not the best. Smoking 3 hours a day? That's like smoking 50 cigarettes a day... Getting addicted to sweets is also bad for you, eat nuts or berries instead. And chewing gum automatically triggers your digestive system, and starts to produce stomach acid.

However the thumbnail here is infuriating while we are trying to form good habits and break bad ones can we break the habit of commercialising and objectifying women?! You are adding to a collective confirmation bias that women are objects.
