My personal favorite, in Japanese Pokemon Blue the guy on route 18, you'd know him in English as asking for a Slowbro in exchange for a Lickitung will instead trade you a Tauros in exchange for a Persian. The Tauros is named "Gyūta" which roughly translates to "Beef Bowl". This is the only way to get a Tauros in Japanese Blue but it's arguably easier to get than in English because it's guaranteed and it comes with an absolutely fire name. Another one of my favorite trades is Duking's trades in Pokemon XD, well 2 of them. Duking requests the rare pokemon spawn in each of the 3 Pokespots. He will trade you a Trapinch for a Pure Power Meditite with Dynamic Punch and Shadow Ball, trade a Surskit for a Shuckle with Toxic and Substitute or a Wooper for a Larvitar with Ddance and Outrage. The Shuckle trade is a bit of a jip in a double battle centric game but the Larvitar and Meditite are absolutely insane grabs.

A list of reasons XY is such a pushover game: 1) Many major fights have incomplete movesets even late game. The last Gym Leader has a Pokémon with three moves, and when facing the "rivals" at the bridge, there's a Roserade with _only one move._ Thankfully, the E4 and Champion have full movesets. 2) Experience Share is unbalanced for the game and you can easily get overleveled (SM did it much better, so this can be excused as the devs experimenting until they got it right). 3) You get two starters. One of whom can Mega evolve. Speaking of which... 4) There are only four fights in the whole game where the opponent uses Mega Evolution, one of which is practically a cutscene and another of which is postgame. So you spend most of the game being able to power through everything with a Mega virtually unopposed.

Y’all are forgetting about the best in-game trade: in Goldenrod City Dept Store for both Gen 2 and Gen 4, you can trade a Drowzee (which you find just outside the city on Route 34) for a Machop, which absolutely stomps Whitney and her Miltank. In Crystal, you have to trade an Abra instead of Drowzee, which is less than ideal cuz it’s hard to catch, but still worth it since you don’t really get access to a Fighting Pokémon before Whitney.
