Hi John, As a interior dressing my favorit is Koch Chemie Cockpit Refresh. It is smells very gut ( ice cherry) and is more durable denn TS. I have tested also TS, Infinity wax, 303 Aerospace, Perl and Sonax Great’s from Germany
@TheBreakfastLover4 ай бұрын
In terms of value, I'd actually take into account durability. The more durable, the less often you need to apply, the more time saved.
@mattclarke67734 ай бұрын
I agree totally. A product like Angelwax enigma interno isn't cheap but you don't need to apply very much and it's durability is fantastic. Equally it can be spritzed over fabrics, seats carpets etc to help keep them clean and stain free. Any dust doesn't seem to settle either where it's been applied, dash tops centre console etc. Brilliant value for money.
@BrianW16124 ай бұрын
@TheBreakfastLover Definitely a big consideration. Even more so for professionals who I think could try to upsell their detail by offering something like the DIY kitchen as an interior coating & add £15-20 more to the cost instead of their usual wipe down with Carpro Perl (or the likes). The DIY kitchen would pay for itself & then some in that respect.

Agreed. I think the interior ceramics are 6-12 months? But really they are different products to say Perl. I think they are better.
@stewartmacdonald6014 ай бұрын
I agree entirely. Although I do very much doubt I have the wallet for the £100 DIY detail. I may give the Anglewax a bash. I am more than happy to pay for durability. The less I have to do something, the better. And if your applying product every couple weeks, then that product cost soon mounts up.

Then we share the same thought. In line with expectations, I have been using the P&S Swift for a few months now and it cleans and leaves an OEM finish, very easy to use on all surfaces including leather seats. The results never disappoint and the results are perfect every time. The price is very interesting. The surfaces after cleaning do not start to "sweat" like some dressings. I have also tested the TW in the past, but it dries out the surfaces. The Megs is purely a dressing that is beautifully processed and has a sleek finish, but does not last long. The Perl is too oily, not bad but not wow. The 303 has more of its name. The Koch is still on the menu, to date the Gsf, the As and the Gs have been used, which perfectly meet all expectations. Plenty of choice, surely?

Koch TS Top Star is my choice, I like OEM and on the inside of doors if you open it in the rain there will be almost no stains from the rain.and less dust on the dashboard. I also like applying it without a sprayer as they deliver. if you use a sprayer i messing on windows or where I don't want it. carpro perl also good but stains more when it gets rained on. and for the outside koch pss very good also for door seals and on my mini cooper for the frames and tires

I am currently using PERL and to be honest I have been disappointed with it. If its too thick, it will give the plastics a cheap glossy look and if its too diluted it doesn't last long at all. And it also streaks, I need to wipe it a few times to level it off. For engine bay, it is completely useless!! For the engine cover, I find that using an aerosol based tire dressing will give the best durability. However I have been using it with normal tap water, planning to switch to DI water to see that if it makes a difference as I really want it to work since it is so economical.

Perfect video as always Jon. I had KochChemie TS (Top Star) and unfortunately it did not live up to expectations (car - VW Eos 2007). It had a nice smell, the surface was not too greasy, but perfect application without streaks was always impossible. He always made spots on smooth plastics without a significant structure (around radio, on plastics behind steering wheel, A pillar plastic triangle where is high speaker) . Even though I immediately wiped it off with another clean towel. Another disadvantage was that clean or rain water dissolved it immediately. Never ever. In your test, I miss a passage that would be devoted to the battle in the simplicity of the application. Because that's a pretty important thing - nobody wants a product that wins in terms of price, but is a pain to apply. I like the look of freshly cleaned surfaces with APC, but since I have a 16 year old VW, I know protection is needed to prevent fading from the sun. Well, so far I haven't found anything that would protect, but was completely non-greasy and could be bought here in Europe (interested in DIY but here in Slovakia no chance to buy it). I once thought of coating the entire interior with DLUX, but it would be too shiny. Turtle wax Inside Job or 303 is the way to go for me maybe. I really don't like an oily surface anywhere, even on car leather or my own skin. In these days I have simply cleaned plastics-trims with APC and still finding best perfect matt protectant with strong durability. I hate glossy visuals of materials in interior. Last chance is maybe CarPro QD or TW Inside job, but I think it is weak in protection. But weak is always better than nothing. Peter - fan from Slovakia (sorry for my poor english)

Mega test idea (unless already done somewhere!) - Best wash and wax's. Testing cleaning power on your dirt silulator, protection ability (if any), protection durability (again, if any), layer ability (does it layer up for easier cleaning/better protection over several wash's), price per wash etc. I recon Bilt Hamber Touch On would do well here even though its probably not seen as a wash and wax, it does state it has some cleaning power. I know you will never get the same result as you would from a multi stage wash then propper wax, or even a follow up with a spray wax/quick detailer. But it would be interesting for the times where you only have a few minutes to get a quick clean in or are just happy with reasonable results without a shed full of chems. Also, its always nice to see when the marketing teams are just pulling the wool over our eyes. Ps, your channel is fantastic, keep up the good work.

DIY being able to be applied to all interior surfaces makes it quite a value coating compared to companies which do 2-3 interior coatings for different substrates. @TerrificFlow4 ай бұрын
I've been using perl for years on tires at 1:1 dilution. In a sprayer, applied with a foam block, it goes on so easy, takes 2 min to do 4 tires. I let it sit on the tire for 30 min, you can leave it, or remove the excess with a microfiber. Good finish with a great darkening effect and low gloss (always depends on the tire, some accept dressing others not so good), decent durability for a water dressing it will hold on for a couple of weeks for daily driver even after some rain. Only downside, it can leave the tire greasy. It doesn't dry to the touch, hence my comment on removing the excess if you care. And the finish is more satin than gloss. Unlike meguiars tire gel for example.

Hi John, why didn't you tested the impact of raindrops on trim. That's is what is most annoying for me. Applying dressing on trim from doorpanels and the rain makes it ugly. Gyeon Preserve is very bad in this criteria. I also have Koch Topstar, 303 Aerospace Protectant, Car Pro Perl, Mother's Interior Protectant and Poorboy's Natural Look. I didn't understand why you didn't included that in your test. It's also a very good dressing that can be used on plastics, rubbers, tires, engine bay, uv protection, cleans...and the finish is very good and can be adjusted on how much you buff it off again. Gyeon Preserve is the one I will never buy again because of the ugly rain stains on doorpanels. I also noticed that some plastics works better for Preserve then others. Glossy trim with no texture is a disaster when it comes into contact with raindrops. So that test would be much better. Thanks.

Great video Jon & perfect timing as just yesterday I done the interior of mine & the mrs cars, I don't often use an interior dressing but did on this occasion. While doing it I couldn't help but think I've wasted money on all the different interior finishing products I had & a simple wipe over with a damp cloth & some KC Polstar is all that is needed. However this video & also just looking at interior trim of the cars today, it really does make quite a difference to the finish even if you don't realise at the time. Seeing those 50/50 shots of yours really hit home that it's definitely worth having at least one in the arsenal. On the subject of products, I keep mentioning this to you but you've got to give Autoglanz Trim Reaper a go. For me it's Carpro Perl on steroids. SiO2 is what is in any ceramic product.
@ForensicDetailing4 ай бұрын
not in my understanding. Ceramics typically use a core speciality in-organic Silane resin that is silicone and nitrogen based but changes state on curing. This resin is compatible with other resins (inorganic and organic). Si02 is silicone (di)oxide, which is a solid state material. Think of it as sand. The most commen form of sio2 used in detailing products is fumed silica. Which is a micronised powder dispersion of it. This is typically whats used in SI02 products with a binder. The reason people say coatings are SI02 is more because of the state change of the core silane resin after a cure into a SI-0-SI material which is a more glass like quartz material but this material is not silicone dioxide.

Actually with all do respect to Hans Koch the creator of Koch Chemie, it is pronounced “Coke”. Don’t believe me, ask them yourself!

Yes, I use it neat. I didn't remember saying it's for 1:5. It even comes with a sprayer, just as a rtu.

@@LSD04 I watched later the official video, it says in the end up to 1:5, but for plastics like engine bay.

According to what I saw here and given that UV protection may be a myth, Soft99 deserved little better. I think antistatic protection should be an important factor to the test.

Ive not seen any real evidence UV is a myth. might be over rated in terms of the UV still gonna do its thing if the cars left baking sun for X amount of time. but I think I would want a dressing to have UV protectors advertised. the fact 10 out of 11 dressings contain it supports this.. but yer I do hear ya mate. The s99 product was spot on in terms of looks and usage etc... ironically it may well even have UV blocker in it. But its just not on the label.

Who else is a CarPro fanboy?

Versatility for an interior dressing is a bit unfair. I would at least limit to plastics and leather, like stuff on the interior! Carpro is good and versatile but I wouldn’t use it neat inside and don’t like it diluted and stored. Also, to lift straight off the shelf and use I would actually mark it and Gyeon down. I like Perl sometimes but my go to would be the Autoglym or Carpro inner QD. Yes Inner QD might be Perl ready to use but I think the consistency and smell is different, the application and finish is perfect. Might it be worth a comparison?

I want a dressing that I can use on all plastics exterior as well. I think its a bonus if they dressing works on leather etc.. I really want one for engine bay and arch liners etc... remember each criteria gets 2 marks so its not a huge factor. I find the SI02 based ones a tiny bit on the funky side in terms of consistency. not a massive amount in it though. really hard this one because its so very personall isnt it.
