We had a feed store in central Arkansas in the 90's. There was one sheller in the store when we bought it, and we got a second sheller after the first year. We bought pinkeye purplehull seed by the 50 lb. bag in spring, and would have both shellers running in the fall - plus a customer who came by and picked up all the hulls for her pigs! This brings back such memories . . .

We had the worst drought in 30 years here in TX and our pink eye purple hull stole the show!! Strong beautiful plants that produce when times are hard! Thanks for the footage brother

@eddieslatten40962 жыл бұрын
@@kathybruton2186 Hey Kathy I didn't draw any plans , I just built mine off memory of a sheller that a feed store had before they closed the doors . I just used the operation theory design of the machine . So far I've found that it will shell peas , red beans , butter beans and pintos . It will not shell the ole Ford hook large limas . Maybe say it like this , it will shell em but the large beans will not go thru the screen . It took me approx 3 1/2 months to build in my spare time . Makes a good winter project but worth the investment .

@@eddieslatten4096 thank you...until Danny posted this I had never seen one. Lol. I grow many things but my family as far as I know didn't grow field peas/ dried beans...I guess mo. Isn't truly a southern state. I'm looking at days to harvest and may attempt these treats next year

@@kathybruton2186 lol well the best of luck to ya Kathy . Looks like that old pea sheller Dan has was similar to the old washing machines back in the day that had the rollers to ring the cloths out , mine is built with a drum that's approx 5' long that turns to keep the peas moving and the shaft with the paddles spins also to lightly slap the peas from the hulls and falls thru a screen and thru a blower to remove the pea husk from the peas . But good luck with your gardening cause the way things are going we need to be ready for what might come down the pipe for sure . C ya and have a great day .

That was a lot, but my 2 human shellers had gone off to college & I wasn't getting enough done by myself. Takes longer to clean that dang sheller than to shell a bushel basket of peas. I stopped loaning my sheller out because no one cleaned it well. Have to take it apart to get all the membrane out.

Got a suggestion from S. Calif citrus country. As your trees mature enough to withstand it, trim the trees three feet off the ground to prevent citrus leaf miners. Their early life cycle is in the soil. By trimming up high enough, you give them less opportunity to become a real threat to your trees.
