Next question - Are Valkyries these days just shelf/display fodder? I always loved the idea of fielding one or two of 'em with some Scions to drop in and take out vulnerable backline units.

As an air cav enthusiast, unfortunately yes. They cost as much as a Russ but have a Heavy Weapons Squad worth of firepower. They’re just too overcosted for their role compared to the Taurox Prime, or even deep striking the scions. Writing was on the wall for air cav in 9th, and now they hammered the nail on the coffin in 10th.

It's a shame...I really enjoy the Valkyrie model. I still want to believe in the Air Cav option....you can take them in hovermode, but then that just makes them easy fodder. It's a shame. If I get around to building a Scion force I'm going to bring them along regardless. If they're still around by then.

It's funny how everyone misses the scions get rerolls in combat too! They are much better in Melee than any other infantry except for ogryns and riders. I love charging scions in with the power fist getting full rerolls. I even take it further and get a command sqd and Nork in on that. (If ironhand is amazing for 55pts Nork is totally worth 60)

Nork is pretty solid i think especially in Scions. Due to some funny interactions you can use reinforcements on him too (because tempestus command is a regiment unit and nork is part of the unit for the battle. Also only way to use reinforcements on an officer)

This is such a troll combo. Scions+Cmd sqd+Nork. And you can return both and nork if you use 2xReinforcments (you will get 2 separate squads though).

Literally why my main Scion focused list has done so good I rock the 15 man blob plus nork and drop in shoot up the area then charge in the mosh pit and it’s devastating Norks thunderous head butt is dope and then I’ve got 26 normal Scion attacks plus Tempestor power fist plus 4 prime attacks it’s epic!

I think the 5 man squads should be punchy... Plasma gun, melta gun and Plasma pistol power fist sgt. Reason I say this is if you draw assassinate and people are running lone operative single characters... gives you a good chance to take them out and potentially get the charge. Just my opinion

@operator9858 it's still 3 Plasma shots, 1 melta and 4 rifle shots... so 8 shots vs 11 shots, both have the option to charge.. like my other comment said just my opinion...

Honourable mention: if your Scions are Battleline, they can be joined by an Inquisitor in Terminator armour, he can deepstrike in with them, bringing a psycannon with him.

It’s weird to me that in order to take a voxcaster the Scion has to give up his Lasgun when no other Militarum model has to do it. I can only figure it’s because they couldn’t figure out how to model one with both the voxcaster and the backpack for the hotshot Lasgun. Luckily you don’t need one anymore to get orders at a distance so it’s easy enough to just not use and go with the firepower instead.

They used to be able to, it's because the kit only comes with one sheathed hotshot lasgun per 5 models. So naturally they decided it goes on the medic and the vox-man can screw himself because reasons.

Yeah they’re sorta glossed over a little in the video, but they’re not bad especially being versatile with the Krak or Frag profiles. Pretty much pulling double duty of punch and horde shooting.

I’m curious, for punchy purposes, are the plasmas that much better than the grenades? Krak now also being s9 and ap-2. It’s less shots with a variable damage, but it’s also a higher strength. It’s a bit more versatile as well. It will wound light vehicles on 4’s too. Edit: I probably should have waited for the end 😅, I still think they should probably compared more to plasma than melta.

Plasma guns can be affected by FRFSRF too.

Plasma has more ap when overcharged, same average dmg per shot, same range and less strength, but more shots within half range and can be affected by FRF order.

Both of those squads are good but I’d go so far as to say that grenade launchers also can be viable as say perhaps better than plasma in a shooty squad and more synergy with volley guns than say the plasma for chaff units as well as having some chance against tough infantry in a pinch if needed. Sadly the only trap choice tends to feel like flamers this go round with them.

These heads arent part of the plastic Scions kit. The models shown at 1:00 are the old metal Stormtroopers. These are sometimes sold on Ebay.

Debatable, though Scions have better rules in my opinion - Deep Strike is better than Scout 6" and free order vs reroll 1s/all hits is slightly worse/slightly better if you take aim (78%/89% vs 83% to hit) and straight up better fro Rapid fire weapons if you FRF, assuming meither unit is getting any officers. Melta mine is... ok I guess? Kasrkin are better line infantry because of this, but if you plan putting a unit in a transport and quickly assaulting, then Scions have Taurox prime and its rerolls to wound for disembarking unit which trumps any advantage Kasrkin could have in regard of damage dealing.

Kasrkin are dope for extra order but I prefer Scion re-roll 1s to hit or if you’re in engagement of objective re-roll entire hit roll plus I mean they deepstrike 😎 lots of flexibility for secondaries also if you bring them back with reinforcements they go back into deepstrike
