The Best Method for Shiny Hunting Dialga in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond | Also Without the Masterball

Something *incredibly* important you missed is to have a pokemon AT LEAST level 48. In Gen 8 for dumb reasons, if your pokemon is a lower level than the one you’re catching, catch rate is about 1/10th of what it would otherwise be. IN OTHER WORDS, IF YOU HAVE A LEVEL 46 POKEMON IN FRONT A MAXXED OUT TIMER BALL WILL ONLY BE 0.4 TIMES AS EFFECTIVE AS A NORMAL POKEBALL. You’d almost be better off throwing beast balls at that point.

If you look up Gen 8’s capture formula, which you can find with a quick google, there is a value called D at the end (stands for Difficulty Modifier). This value multiplies the whole catch probability formula either by 1, or by close to 0.1, based on A) based on whether you’ve beat the story (which most people catching Dialga won’t have) and whether your current pokemon is a lower level than the one you’re trying to catch. It was probably implemented because gen 8 also has the wild area, where you could get something stronger than your whole team at a few points in the story, so it makes sense that they make it harder to replace your whole team; something that would have taken 4 balls will now take 40 and probably convince you it’s not worth it. Anecdotally, I tried doing some test captures on Dialga with timer balls while paralyzed with 1hp some 10 attempts but it struggled to death each attempt. I threw on average 30 balls per fight so that’s 300 balls without a single catch. Then I leveled my lead to 48, and suddenly Dialga never makes it to ball 5 for any of my test captures. I am literally being 60 times luckier with a higher level pokemon than I was with lower level ones.

This is actually a very informative and useful tutorial for people that are just getting into shiny hunting for the first time. It covers all the basics and knowledge that is required to do the shiny hunting right and in the safest possible way. It also includes some tips and tricks as well that I didn’t quite know myself until after I saw the video such as that the legendary will survive a single struggle as long as it has 25% of its HP left, letting you know that it’s out of PP and you have one last chance to use your backup master ball making it super safe and guaranteeing a successful shiny hunt. Also bronzong with hypnosis and iron defense is really op for this fight, first hypnosis so it doesn't use move and pp, and start maxing out iron defense and just keep spamming hypnosis if it wakes up and start throwing balls. Bronzong is op against dialga, is resistant to normal, dragon, rock and steel so dialga dont do much against him. Bronzong is a really good choice.

The quite a while shiny hunting is true. Been shiny hunting it about 3 days around 3000 soft resets 30 hours. Yesterday I gave my friend the switch when he came to my house to see if he would have better luck. He did. AND SOFT RESET OVER IT. So I'm still looking. I'll update when I find it lol

Ok i am a bit late to saying this but you should add an exeggutor with the ability harvest and the move skill swap (harvest allows the Pokémon to restore the Berry used)using skill swap give dialga the ability harvest and then use trick from any Pokémon that learns that move to give it a leppa berry (leppa berry restores PP) this allows the dialga to never run out of pp and it will never struggle to death

While there are some good nuggets of information and tips here, if anyone came here expecting to find methods to speed up the shiny hunt itself, take some advice from someone over 3000 resets in... The best tip I can give is that if it is shiny, it will appear so in the short cinematic as you start up the battle, you don't need to wait for the camera to remain static to know if it is shiny, saving about 5 seconds of time. That doesn't seem like much, but will save literal hours if you do this thousands of times. Other than that, there is no real way of making this any easier. Just you, and 1/4098 odds. I guess be thankful it's not the originals 1/8192!

I worked out that it takes roughly 1 minute for the game to restart plus entering the battle with dialga. That's 4096 minutes potentially which is just over 68 hours of potential resets. I'm currently 6 hours in haha so only 360 resets. I hope I don't need to go through all 68 hours 🤣🤣

Personally i found it was more like 45 seconds (~51 hours to reach odds) and even so it took me 40 hours until i eventually got my shiny dialga, and that still isn’t even that long! Good luck ✨🍀

Also, i don’t agree with duplicating items/pokemon, i think it takes the fun out of the game, and therefore i made this tutorial for anyone not wanting to use their one and only master ball, like myself
