Rob, as a vintage radio collector this was an amazing video on the TR72 mobile radio. Took me to my childhood memory lane. The radio sounds very good considering it was 70's technology. Man, I love old vintage radios. Thank you for putting this video together on this radio. 73' (KK7APQ)

Excellent video :) I used a Kenwood TR 7200 2 meter radio , RadioShack TXR 252 2 meter radio when first started in Ham radio in 2008 then found lots anolgo was with CTCCS codes on repeaters in USA and Ontario plus Canada and worldwide! So had updated Yeasu FT 1802 M/E 2 meter then screen went crazy and antenna had too on daul band one store bought in 2017 ! So got from another ham radio operators help and long time late friend had got me a Yeasu FT 1500 M 2 meter , got LMR 400 coax 100 feet hook up homemade J pole up 48 feet and works super ! Yeasu FT 1500 M got use Computer Fan over top keep cool in Summer Season months when hot or heat up radio fast ! In 2020 my late friend who was ham radio operator he left me in will a Kenwood TM-V71 daul band 2 meter and 440 or we call it Canada 70 CM it fan cooled ! I run 35 amp power supply on my ham and Cb Radios that found help on keep power at full strength there rated at a Tech years back ago when bought power supply new told 35 amp good for 100 watts on radio !

Rob, your video sure takes me back! My first 2m rig was a Kenwood TR-7600 10-watt synthesized rig. The equivalent of your Drake was the Kenwood TR-7200 (as you mentioned) and it was crystal controlled. You'd pick one of those up at a swap meet for cheap and realize that you'd need to spend about $50-$100 to get the repeaters you needed. Each channel NEEDED TWO crystals (repeater input and output) and even simplex required two. At $3-$5 _each_ from Cal Crystal or ICM, it really mauled the old piggy bank! The $200 I spent on the 7600 did not seem so expensive then. de k6whp, ex-kb6hk

Good point about the crystals, thanks for sharing your comments!

That's the kind of rig I would have really enjoyed having in my 1973 Dodge Dart. Nice rig for a nice car (for the times). Thanks for your review. Marc (N1QGM)

I remember that QSO on the W1HDN repeater. I was listening in on the .79 then, too.

It sounds like an 1970's radio, not bad. What ver. of sdr program are you using?
@SevenFortyOne11 ай бұрын
This is SDRconnect - its a new program from SDRplay. You can download it from their website. It is brand new so it still may have a few bugs

my first radio was Japanese version of that radio Trio / Kenwood TR 7200 G2 , 144 MHz crystal controlled radio. 10 watts FM only. I bought Receive only crystal to listen to Japanese police band on 147.180, 147.280 MHz also. AG6JU

It’s the dummy load as it gets hot it stabilizes the power my belief it’s the dummy load it’s for hf use I don’t know what frequency range is that dummy load

Sounds like a nice piece of gear however, not being able to key up repeaters limits it usefulness.

This is more of a collector piece for me than anything else. However, I do monitor 146.520 and this radio is perfect for that. I may build a tone board for it at some point too...we'll see.

Oh, I LOVE the audio from that radio as heard on the SDR. The Rx is nice as well. I’d listen to that rig all day…if my local repeaters went silent :( A truly legacy-sounding rig. Great find, Rob.

I think I may use it to monitor 146.520

The dummy load is rated to 500MHz...I don't think that's the issue
