Experiencing this first time alone in my room with the headphones on was nothing short of transcendental. Going through this whilst thinking about the game and story and trying to figure it all out, also listening to the amazing lyrics, omg. A large part of why this scene is so powerful is that it was a perfect intermission within a horro story. After being scary and terrifying at times for hours on end, you really need some levity to break apart that tension. Thats why comic relief is so important; otherwise you just end up feeling numb to it all. This scene brough laughter and happy tears, allowing the audience to reset and get ready for Round 2. And it was magnificent!

As a guitar player these solos were just throwing me in and out of consciousness. I've never experienced anything like this in a video game and I probably never will again. Also, it's not put in there just to be a cool scene. It represents the darkness basically going against Alan Wake's hubris thinking he can escape and write himself out of the dark place. The dark presence basically was showing Alan Wake truly how little he knows and how powerful it is. If you read the plot board underneath Alan Wake, the musical section. One of the first sentences is: "I had fooled myself into thinking I could control the story." So that was my interpretation anyway.

Ahti: My Swedish brothers, (perkele). ---> (Perkele is an swearing word in Finland. You could say that it's like an "name of the Satan's father") :D Ahti: (Ai että nyt on kyllä joo). ---> (Oh, that's right now yeah.) I know that this dosen't really make sense in English but is really close literally what Ahti is saying. Ahti: (Laittoi pojat jenkkakoneet soimaan, saatana). ---> (Got the boys yank machines playing, damn it). Saatana = Satan but i think "damn it" probably makes more sense. :D But i have to make clear that when Ahti talks sometimes "Nonsence" it's because he literally translate Finnish old sayings to English. I hope this clears little of Ahti's saying. (Awesome video by the way!)
@Cinetyk Жыл бұрын
I love this aspect of Ahti, also present (of course) in Control. I'm Portuguese myself, so there's a lot of sayings, especially older ones from people old in the countryside that sound very very weird when "translated" into present language, let alone English, but they feel so poignant and original :)
@mellowstrangler Жыл бұрын
It's difficult to translate because it carries meaning in the context and not in literal translation. In addition, Ahti is talking like an old Finnish man from the country side :D. I would say that (Ai että nyt on kyllä joo) would translate more properly into something like "Oh yes, this is it". Which implies he is excited about the song, like "this hits the spot". The next part (Laittoi pojat jenkkakoneet soimaan, saatana) is a continuation, which could be translated to something like "The boys sure turned on the dancing gadgets, gosh darn it". Again the literal translation doesn't carry the meaning here properly. And even though the last word (saatana) is a curse word, Ahti uses it here again to express his excitement and joy.

The "jenkkakone" refers to old Finnish folk dance "jenkka" and "jenkkakone" means any device that can play old jenkka music. In fact with a later patch this part got a bit buggy, the final FMW part is out of sync with the song. But Poets of the Fall already released a full version of the entire song on their channel. Since Max Payne 2 "Last Goodbye" I am such a great fan of Remedy and Poets of the Fall / Old Gold of Asgard, in December they are finally going to release their album with all songs from Alan Wake 1, Control and Alan Wake 2. I just love those guys and their passion, not for just making video games but art. I don't know any other studio the world that includes a band in their games and make every appearance better and better. AW2 has big chances of winning "Game of the Year" but I think this will go to Baldur's Gate 3. But anyways, AW2 is nominated in a total of 8 categories for this year's game awards, one less award is nothing bad :D

It's absurd how cool ART Poets of the Fall and Remedy can put together. Those guys have insane dynamics in their creations. Alan Wake's Old Gods of Asgard stage scene was really cool experience back then. Also Control's "Take Control" was incredible and now they really amped up the designs. I mean this scene is virtually flawless. Song is dynamic to player progression, it actually tells the story, is fun and hell they managed to insert musical into a friggin' game and did it so well that I highly doubt any game studio is going to pull off, unless Remedy and POTF team up again. Cool to see such a change in game, let alone Sami Järvi participating it himself. No Gabe Newell or others are going to pull such cool thing off EVER 😂 Pure 100% art.
