Perhaps one of the best, most honest reviews I’ve seen on this product. I have been looking to replace my existing panniers and your review was extremely helpful. Thank you.

I had the same problem with locking top of the bags. Once I figured out how, sometimes they would be extremely difficult to open! I got so frustrated that I removed the little pins you have to line up and then slide to get the holes to line up to put a lock through. Much easier now and still lays flat enough to look right.

That’s a good suggestion to be fair 😎

Good honest review, they do suit the bike when it’s loaded as well..

I also own these bags. I, too, have problems locking them to my pannerier racks. For the money I paid, this is really frustrating for me. (My racks are OEM BMW R1250GSA racks.) I also hate the closure of the bags. Again, for the cost of them, this closure system seems cheap and overall complicated. I don't care for the pad lock flopping around as I ride either. I also don't care for how deep the opening is while mounted on the bike. It's very hard for me to receive anything inside the bag without completely pulling out the inner liner. It is frustrating when you need to add/remove a bit of kit on the side of the road. The modularity is nice, but not worth the inconvenience and price of them. After using these for a year, I don't think I would buy them again.

Hello Paul, It's pleasing to see I'm not the only one who changes luggage like I change my underwear. I've had Touratech hard cases, BMW Vario cases, Bumot Hard cases, SW Motech Hard cases and here I am watching your review considering the lone rider cases. One thing I've noticed is each system appears really good in certain areas but then lets themselves down in others. Anyhow my question is could the Lone Rider panniers be attached to a different mounting plate such as the SYSBags adapter plate from SW Motech🤔 That way you would still have quick removable cases but the frames could be removed quickly too. I'm over the east coast else I would have asked to meet for a cuppa and brought the SW Motech stuff to see if it's feasible. Is it something you have considered? regards Jay

Hey Jay, glad it’s not just me 🤣 I don’t think officially there is a way, SW Motech do adapters for various pannier brands to mount to their racks but I don’t think they include an option for OEM style mounting probably cause they hook onto the bars of the racks which arguably isn’t a particularly elegant solution. I guess anything’s possible with some fancy engineering though. The Lone Rider racks (and BMW OEM ones on the 1200/1250’s) are only held on by 8 T40 bolts so they can be removed within a couple of minutes so for me they are kinda quick release enough to suit my needs.

I have the bags and like them. The problem with the satellite bags is solved by using MoskoMoto Mille Pouches, which are better and attach firmly.

I have the Lone Rider panniers and like them. I also have the bottle holders and feel like they could’ve been better designed. They aren’t large enough for some bottles I’d like to carry. However, I’ve never lost a bottle out of them. I only have the latch fitment issue on the right side of the bike. On the BMW GSA, there’s a weld point that can be filed down to improve that. I’d hope LR wouldn’t send out pannier racks with that issue. The latching is a bit fiddly but that seems to get better over time…maybe.

The price is pretty absurd in Australia - I'll be waiting until BMW fixes their vario cases before I decide which way I'm going to go, but I don't think I can justify LR's prices.
