People who didn't like Guardians of the Galaxy may be rare, but they're out there, like me. Some jokes I loved, like nothing flying over Drax's head, but mostof the comedy fell completely flat for me, and mixed with the cartoonish violence (esp. Yondu's arrow) and dysfunctional levels of snarkiness, made me unwilling to invest myself in the story at all. This isn't to say other people are wrong, just that this wasn't for everyone. I also kinda resent the movie for how it affected Thor 3. I wanted Thor to be darker and heavier, and I liked the direction the tone was going in Thor 2, even though the execution was rough. I had hoped that Thor 3 would be Thor 2 dialed-up and done right, but instead it went for a tone like GotG's, but dialed-up. I was bathed in neon lights for two hours while making the occasional half-hearted chuckle, when what I wanted was stakes, risk, and a feeling like something in the story mattered. The movie I wanted probably wouldn't have been as successful, but it felt like Ragnarok became a movie I didn't like because it was trying to mimic another movie I didn't like. Bah, humbug!

Fucking same! everyone loved Thor 3, I just didnt feel it. Movie should have been the cap 2 of Thor but it felt so flat.

Art is not a democracy. But the Marvel films are made by a pseudo democratic committee anyway, so it follows that they try to cater to the taste of the majority. The majority liked GotG and Thor Ragnarok

Great episode. I remember the same moments the first time I saw it, not having any prior investment in the characters, intrigued by the trailer but not really sure they'd keep that up for a whole film. Then seeing those competent tonal shifts from tragedy, to space Indiana Jones, to what the heck he Is dancing? Then the realization Quill was a big man-child who was a legend in his own mind. I don't think I've had as many laugh out loud moments in a cinema as watching this and it was (and still is) a complete delight as its just fun! I think it was a smart move concentrating on the Guardians and concentrating on their strength, despite them being all these weird characters and aliens their motivations most are remarkably humble and normal and un-noble. They are petty thieves, they are chancers, they are broken individuals, Even those of more galactic importance (Gamora and Nebula) have very human motivations. No super-rich geniuses, or super-patriotic soldiers or Asgardian gods, they are schmucks in the wrong place at the right time and have the choice to step up to that. I think this was a super-smart choice in introducing this bigger universe and space races. These were the most relatable characters and that grounded it. There was a comment in the review that there is no clearly defined aesthetic as you might see in Star Trek or Star Wars and I agree but in a way I saw this as a plus. Nothing ever screamed out to me as being look at how futuristic things are, which I definitely felt in the Star Trek reboots. This is just the world they are in, trying to do their thing, and it has different flavours and different technology levels depending on where you are. Damn though there is such a beautiful use of colour and background detail, without being in your face and being distracting. It's really a beautiful film.

With Peter and gamora have this romance thing it feels weird because it feels like gamora lacks the emotional development to understand that kind of relationship and that Peter is kind of tricking her into going along with what he wants. Like often it feels like her character really doesn't know what's going on romantically and that she really isn't inteperating what's going on the same way Peter is

I have an issue appreciating Chris Prat after the wacky and stupid religious stuff he started to publicly spout. It isn’t a Mel Gibson type issue, but comedy loses some ground for me if the actor attributes their success to divine intervention.
