A lot of people seem to have not understood the film, which surprised me, but maybe knowing the original title helped. I think the biggest theme of the movie is "How do you live... with grief?" I was bawling by the end of it.

At this point, I think thing Patrick can do about Barbie is never talk about ever again. Personally, I would allow disallow him from mentioning Ryan Gosling, Margot Robbie, Noah Baumbach and of course especially Greta Gerwig for at least a year. But Barbie is Barbie and those who refuse to bask in its glory are just sinning in the Augustinian definition: depriving and negating all that is holy in the world and beyond. Besides he like Poor Things which was the Best Picture. And Lanthimos looks like to be in the conversation next year.

I would say Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse was snubbed for Best Fall (the moment where Miles falls out of the building in Nueva York and Miguel dives after him.) But even not having seen John Wick 4, it clearly deserved the win. Fantastic video.

The Boy and the Heron made me gasp several times on my first viewing from the breathtaking visuals. On my second viewing, I gasped again from seeing so much that I missed the first time. Of all the contemplative films about the art of filmmaking, this might be my favorite. You ask a director to reflect on their legacy and Miyazaki creates an entire fantasy universe that encompasses both his own feelings on his career, and visual motifs from all of his previous fantasy universes. Insanity. Also, speaking of Oscar snubs, Joe Hisaishi's snub for score was CRIMINAL. I can't listen to Ask Me Why without crying. The Great Collapse MAKES the ending scene. God what a film!

I want to start a petition to get Emma to host, or at least co-host, next year's Vito Awards. If the add reads are how Emma gets paid, if I watch the add read more than once does she get a raise? Was that just the same shot of Emma taking away the awards used over and over again? Or did she just have that choreography down. I absolutely loved the many titles used to introduce Patrick. I learned so much about him from those intros. Just needed to say that only 2 videos into the new season and already the new desk is missing from the video. I missed the desk. Out of the 2 new additions to the cast I like the desk far more than Nobbles. Thanks for the recommendations for movies I need to see.

Killers of the Flower Moon is my favorite of 2023. That ending was audacious in a way I love to see from one of our established masters, pushing himself in pursuit of ecstatic, dreadful truth. Also I had diarrhea during Oppenheimer, but got it out quickly and only missed Rami Malek's first appearance.

The John Wick stair scene also gets the award because of the way it integrates into the plot -- you've just watched Wick battle up the staircase for the last 20 minutes, the peak of which is his ultimate goal -- only to be hurtled down the concrete in one glorious stunt.
